Atletico Madrid Hero Diego Forlan Wary of Second-Leg Trip To Anfield
The Uruguayan international striker is aware of the impending 90 minutes at Anfield next week.

Atletico Madrid will take a one-goal advantage to Anfield next Thursday thanks to a 1-0 win over Liverpool at the Vicente Calderon earlier this evening. Diego Forlan’s goal in the eighth minute was enough for los Colchoneros to keep their Europa League aspirations alive.

Speaking after the match, the former Manchester United striker expressed his delight at having scored what eventually turned out to be the winner but warned his team-mates against any complacency.

"We got a good result, but there are still 90 minutes to play and it will be tough, Liverpool are a strong team," he is quoted as saying by AS.

"Luckily I got the goal. It was a shame for the second opportunity that Pepe [Reina] anticipated and came out."

Moreover, the 30-year-old dismissed any suggestions that he and his team-mates were already thinking of the final in Hamburg next month when he told Telecinco TV after the match, "No, no. It's complicated. We got still 90 minutes ahead of us and they are a strong team that plays well at Anfield. It will be tough.

Report: Chelsea Will Not Pursue Liverpool Star Fernando Torres
Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti has reportedly distanced the club from the race to sign Liverpool striker Fernando Torres despite recent reports of interest from the Blues.

Speaking a press conference, Ancelotti insisted the club will focus on promoting five players from the youth sector while attempting to trim the squad at Stamford Bridge.

The Sun suggested that older players such as Michael Ballack and Deco will not receive a new deal from Chelsea regardless of whether the Blues win the Premier League and the FA Cup.

The former Milan coach hinted Chelsea are unlikely to sign Torres because the club already have Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka. Ancelotti praised the Spaniard but effectively ruled out making a move to sign him with recent reports linking the side with Milan striker Alexandre Pato.

According to earlier reports, Chelsea will offer £43 million to sign the young Brazilian, who is currently sidelined by injury.

Liverpool's Steven Gerrard Wants To Beat Chelsea Despite Possibility Of Manchester United Title
United are seeking a record 19th Premier League title.

By Anthony Sciarrino
Apr 26, 2010 7:37:00 PM

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is adamant that he wants to defeat Chelsea on Sunday despite the fact that a victory over the Blues would effectively give Manchester United the Premier League title.

Chelsea hold the top spot in the Premier League by one point over United with two games to play and many Anfield supporters do not want to see the Red Devils win their 19th title, which would eclipse the Reds 18 for the most in league history.

However, with Liverpool in a close race for the last Champions League spot, Gerrard insists that the team wants to beat Chelsea and attempt to make a miraculous comeback and finish in fourth place.

"We've got a couple of games left now and the idea is to take maximum points to see if we can get into fourth through the back door," Gerrard told The Mirror.

"If we take maximum points, who knows? The teams above us might slip up. All we have done is keep the pressure on those above us."

Despite the concern of Liverpool fans over United winning a fourth consecutive Premier League title, Gerrard insists that the Reds can only worry about themselves, and want to avoid fierce rivals Everton vaulting ahead of them in the standings.

"We are underdogs for fourth position, but our fans know that we have also got Everton breathing down our necks and we certainly don't want them finishing above us.”

Liverpool had not won an away game in the Premier League this year before a 4-0 victory over Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday.

Gerrard scored twice in the victory, and the England international was encouraged with Liverpool’s performance, even if they are not able to get to fourth place.

"We won't give up, but it would be stupid of me to say this or that is going to happen. It's important to be realistic.

"We haven't been good enough away. When you can't score and you lose your top striker, it can damage belief and affect your confidence, but this was much better."
