Year end, so here is my Inventory list for my Unopened Puerh. I have excluded my Unopened Greens and Oolong cause those are meant to be opened in the next few weeks or months. The ones below are meant to be kept Unopened for a while... For most of the below, I have got samples or extra piece kept aside.
I can see most of your collection are fairly new puerh. I think it is high time you stock up those in year 2004-5 when they are still affordable. In another 2 years, those tea going to double in price.

Liu Ann is quite a strange tea for me initially when I first tried and I have a dislike for it. However, I realised that there are many varieties of it in the market and I managed to taste some great one. I managed to taste the 40s ShunYiSun batch and it is really great but the price is RM1xxxxx per basket. So now wait for good fellow to brew them and hope they will invite me smile.gif

Nowadays the Liu Ann is not the authentic process of the old. I think the method is lost. I did enquired from a learned tea scholar and he mentioned that in the old days the bamboo leaves around the basket are more expensive than the tea itself. I think the trees are now protected. The famous SYS company that produced it also closed its business in the 40s and nowadays most new tea company uses the same logo when producing it since it is not copyrighted.

In the old days, this tea is favour by the opium smoker and they drink this tea to clear their throat after smoking. The original way to brew is to add some bamboo leaves to the tea leaves itself.

I sometimes also buy old tea just for its packaging if it is within my budget. Not planning to open it for drinking but rather for display since it is now becomes 'antique'.

What is the oldest branded tea that you have?
*
I got no idea of the age but at least in the 70s. I got a tiekuanyin still unopened and in its original clear plastic carrying box. I believe this type of packing is for gift giving. There are also few boxes of LiuBao around.
Oldest tea I got is more than 100 years. Only a small amount. Turns almost like dust. A gift from my dad tea friend in China. I have not tried them yet. The aroma is as good as tasting it tongue.gif

How can newbie know if the tea they are buying fake or not? Or worse they add foreign material like dye or heavy metal or fillers?
*
There are few definition of fake tea here. One is that the producer used other tea leaves instead from the supposed tea plantation area. For example, using tiekuanyin tea leaves and sell as Puer tea. Second is imitation of brand. Products from small inferior company uses famous tea trademark brand and sells them at premium price.

Check for dye is easy. After brewing, use a white tissue and dip a bit on tea. The colour should be very light on natural tea.

If I have a 100 year old pu, I would most probably seal it up with a transparent wrapper and frame it at the wall... haha... I was at a teashop, they have 1 100 year old pu and it cost RM100,000. Madness.

*
Basically the tea owner wants to shiok sendiri by putting a price to it. One thing for sure, that 100 year old puer tea definitely not store in Malaysia for that long. The other tea owner I know of will never display the old tea. If you knew them well, then they will only tell you what 'treasures' they got in their warehouse.

Depends where you buy. Shops such as Purple Cane sells at high price due to their high rental.

Cool stuff but I can see mostly young tea..If those boxes are more than 5 years old tea then it be a treat...These amount of tea are great retirement planning strategies.

Anyway, I dun think AA boxes are for keeping tea unless advised by tea owner...Tea easily absorb odour. Best is used back the original boxes.

If you want independent view on selecting teapot and tea, I suggest you visit the KL tea society at Jln Sultan@Selangor complex on weekends. You can bring your teapot or teas and let the members comment on them. This coming weekend meetup will be on Sunday at 2.30pm

What meet up is that? Is it a gathering or something.  I sometimes pass and saw a lot of teapot there, no idea what the shop is doing rofl.  What's the price range there?
*
The society is on 2nd floor. Those on the ground are by tea merchants. The society members meet once every weekend to share about teapots and tea drinking. Non members also can attend but better if you join since it is only Rm100 for lifetime

If you thinking to get teapot there, I can recommend you look for TungTing. It is besides HaiO. The boss is very experience on it and probably have the teapot you have in mind according to your budget.

It is better you go there one day to see for yourself. Most of the times the gathering is to drink tea and chat. Sometimes there are special activities like invited guest from elsewhere come over to share.

If you are teapot collector, then you be pleased to know that some members owned more than 2000 of them in their home. Fuyoh! Sometimes they will bring their prize collection to show off..hehe

Tacha is more targeted for season drinker cause their tea is of high premium quality which also means more expensive. For newbie, I would suggest go to Tea-Li cause they got more variety of tea and they are selling wholesale price for the famous brand.

Tea in general got no expiry date. The best tea for natural fermentation is Puer tea. If you got a chance to taste a 50 year old puer tea, then you will know why it is worth storing young puer tea for future consumption.

For teapot, in general, zisha is used for puer and zhuni is for oolong tea. However, there is no fixed usage. If you got only 1 teapot, then use it for all types of tea. Sometimes, I used porcelain gaiwan to brew as well.

If you from USJ, you can go to Summit groundfloor. There is a tea shop there and the uncle is quite accommodating.

Thanks for the address. Any landmark near the place? Will try to make a visit after CNY...

It is behind Jln Alor. It is located besides a hotel I think called Radius. The boss is known as queen of shui xian cause she got lots of aged shui xian at her stall. Very nice lady cause she will brew anything that you wanted to try and will answer anything that you asked..Of course, you go there drink the aged shui xian tongue.gif

Tea-Li Serdang = Chris Chua... My office near Serdang, so sometimes lunch time go there for quickie smile.gif Ya lo... Tea-Li price quite good that some other tea shops bad mouth them... haha... I have heard few shops talk bad about them to me, and Tea-Li knows about it too (not i say). Wat to do... they in a way spoil tea market price for their competitors. Good for us though  rclxms.gif

I bought my bamboo tea tray from that uncle, but didn't have the chance to taste his tea. Maybe next time, see what is nice there  biggrin.gif
*
Ya. I also know about it. I heard that some shops says that their tea is the pirated version but I have checked and it is not. So good for us since their wholesale price is one of the cheapest.

USJ uncle got many teas that he sometimes did not display cause he do not want to sell at low prices. If you know him better, he might sell them to you. He got quite a few 4-5 years Dayi that I think still cheap to get now.
