Today, Tacha has invited a few teapot artists and also Tacha's custom teapot partner (经典陶坊 - jīng diǎn táo fāng) for a talk. The artists brought along some of their teapots for sale.

Normally, this area is for Tacha's custom teapots, Factory #1 teapots and Puerh. But today, only artists teapots were displayed.

This is 1/3 of the crowd. Some of the guests are other tea shop's owners

It was a crowded day. So, the question... How much are the artist's teapots?

Depending on the artist, the price range from:
MYR 3.5k (USD 1.1k) - only 2
MYR 10k (USD 3.3k)
MYR 30k (USD 10k)
MYR 80k (USD 26.6k)
MYR 150k to MYR 300k (USD 50k to USD 100k)

How many were sold? In 3 hours, 24 out of 30 artist teapots were sold.

Here are the super expensive ones...

I dunno cause I did not bother to open it tongue.gif Just keep it as souvenir. One thing I did not drink it because the ingredient includes "artificial flavouring". It is written in the canister and they offer this type of drink to Will & Kate. Yucks!

That particular teapot maker is like don't know what level that only limited number of ppl alive has the title. There are even some people with higher level title than him which will cost even more.

I cannot brain spending RM300k on a teapot, but someone explained it to me...

Let's say your salary is RM3,000, and a teapot is RM300. You may buy it. If you look at it, the teapot is 10% of your income.
So the people that buy RM300k teapot may be worth few millions already. So RM300k to them may be small money. Some people are staying is bungalow worth RM17m to RM28m at Mount Kiara. How to brain that?

We only can eat sour grape I guess... haha

Those people treat it as investment not a daily use pot, i remember 1 of the owner told me last time. He said it is better than invest a house/apt as the price rise faster and do not need a lot of paper work, not need through lawyer, no need to pay tax of selling and so on and can be liquidize faster tahn a permanent property like real estate...

If not mistaken his pot ~10yrs ago price~20-30k...

Anyway that only apply to the pot which is catergorize as "art"...now a lot "technical/skillful pot" but sell as "art" which not worth the price..

Zhang Zheng Zhong is now consider as State Master level of pot maker...so potentially to be the national level Master.

The price will rise when the crafter/maker are no longer in this world. Zhang Zheng Zhong looks young to me and most probably he will make 1000s more of these pots.

But still 300K for a pot? rclxub.gif Its not like a thousand years old pot.

u r right too but market will decide the value.

Gu jing Zhou (pass away)'s pot sell at >RM8million.

Those smart real artist will control their no. of pot make. Besides, their energy level, concerntration will drop by age thus the product quality will drop.
If not mistaken he make <3pots/month now.
so the highest price pot of the artist may not be the latest pot he made but the best pot hemade during his best performance.

example: Ge tao zhong's pot now is not selling as high as his pot made in 90s when he is at his best performance.

those who buy the pot had actually book the pot> 1years ago.

anyway there are some so call national master is hired people to make for them n sell it as well...so must be very care on selecting the artist for investment.

in china zisha world now, the pot maker is increasing their price every 3-4 months.

example zhang zheng zhong's student wang qiang-- his ppot price in 2010~10k...now can go up to 40k. his student's pot in 2010 sell at ~1k now is 2.8-3.5k.
So it is up to individual to judge....
