that's the thing.. alex song for me is the most improved arsenal player, but the problem is that, when he went away for national duty or when he got injured / suspended, we actually didn't have someone who could stand in for him. sure wenger tried playing denilson and diaby there, but we know that they're much more attacking minded and can't provide that shield in front of the back for. i don't think that it's coincidence that we haven't been playing as well when he's not playing that defensive midfield role. so i felt that in january, wenger should've tried to get reinforcements.. i mean, he managed to get campbell back... i'm sure the extensive scouting network of arsenal could've found someone who could be song's deputy. i mean, i wouldn't even mind eastmond playing there, but he's barely been given the chance to play in the EPL. so for me, i would still put the fault on the gaffer's table.
just to clarify i wasn't satisfied with the 2nd half performance of the season, not the entire season. that's why i said their performances since the new year have been below par. and the reason that i would say that wenger shouldn't get the sack is simply because i believe in what he's doing and what's he done. he has made some mistakes which i have highlighted from my point of view, but i think he's still got what it takes. and also, there's much sentiment for me that i really want to see wenger win the EPL one more time and the CL with arsenal before he leaves.. =) otherwise, it would feel like he left with unfinished business.... heheh... but i also think that the board (or perhaps more specifically mr ivan gazaridis) may need to start putting a little pressure on monsieur wenger to say that we need a trophy in the next 2 years.. perhaps that pressure may help him.... heheh...
I'd say Song is the most improved player as well although his progress started last year rather than this season. Having said that, Song still has his weaknesses that needs rectifying but he's a smart lad and will eventually get there. Neither Diaby nor Denilson, even Rambo is suitable to replace Song; but all 3 of them have different roles. Diaby works best against smaller teams but his form fluctuates too often. Denilson is best used as the link together with Song as the defensive anchor and Fabs as the attacking fulcrum. Rambo is developing into a midfield dynamo like Gerrard.
I don't think the board needs to pile more pressure on Arsene, the gaffer himself is his worst critic and it's evident that he's the most stressed out whenever results don't go our way. After all, Arsenal losing Arsene is more destructive than Arsene losing Arsenal. As for Gazi's role, what I'm hoping to see is him marketing our brand to a larger scale. Peter Kenyon did well for both MU and Chelsea, regardless of how much money they've spent to begin with.
Our performances after the new year hasn't been the greatest but we've been playing without half of our first 11 most of the time, and yet still being able to sustain a title challenge until now. That alone, is a great achievement and huge improvement compared to last season. The excuse of injury is old, but this season we have been hit the hardest compared to previous ones but our results have been better; does this not signify the maturation and progress of our club? Yes it does. Don't forget before the start of the season people are predicting us to drop out of the top 4, but Liverpool, not us, are in that situation... and our 3rd spot is almost secured as long as we don't drop more points in a careless manner.
Those who think being trophyless is a failure is their own problem. I think for the dire circumstances of our squad, we have achieved what we set out to do - challenge for the title, and exceeded expectations.

hey guys, do u think arsene moves to loan Senderos away is a good idea??
given he already know Gallas is injured, and Vermalean can't stay fit and Silvestre is rubbish..
i rather prefer Senderos at our CB then Unlce silvestre, his mistake prone had cost us too much this season. he, denilson and almunia alone might contribute 9 points at least.
Sendy was supposed to be sold but JD's long term injury plus stalled talks during summer meant he stayed on for a while. Sendy's contract is unlikely to be renewed after the end of this season hence he was let go in Jan to aid his search for a new club. I like Everton as a club, but I'd hate to see Sendy playing against us in blue.
I think it's unfair to single out uncle Mik/Al/Denilson for that 9 points. It's easy to finger point (Luk for Porto lost, Diaby's own goal vs MU bla bla) but this season the games that we lost are mostly the ones where the entire team played badly... apart from the self-destruction at Old Trafford.
