It's ironic that many Arsenal fans (or so they claim to be) are bashing the club left, right, and centre for the direction that the club took, yet most rival fans are able to see the big picture.
I agree with you that we are not a big club historically. In England yes, but in Europe our past achievements can't even touch the bigger clubs from the other 4 major leagues. As mentioned before, the size and stature of our club is merely second tier - similar to teams like Roma/Lazio/Parma, Valencia/Deportivo la Coruna, Werder Bremen/Borussia Dortmund/Bayer Leverkusen, Ajax/PSV; yet our achievements have surpassed most if not all of them. And many of them are already in deepshit due to financial struggles and constant under-performing.
The Emirates Stadium is our first step towards being a first tier "big" club, where those teams like the Big 2 in Spain, Juve & the 2 Milans, Bayern Munich etc already have decades of progress ahead of us.
Patience, is something many fans, even those involved in real-life football management don't have.
The answer to both is NO.
The player never said he wanted to leave, it's all media bullshit. This is a player who played with a broken leg against his childhood club. His roots may be Catalunyan, but his love for Arsenal is no less than for Barcelona.
Don't underestimate the Wenger factor - many players still have the desire to play for him, and
he successfully fought off Real Madrid to keep Paddy until he was certain that Paddy was never the same player as before, then he let him go. Same with Thierry.
Regarding Viera, Arsenal did accept RM's bid but he is the one who rejected the contract offer from RM. It's nothing to do with AW.
