nimrod, does your MBP fan speeds up when copying files or watching media files over an external HDD using USB or FireWire...?
EDIT: of course this question is also open to any current MB/MBP users with external HDDs... This post has been edited by Eithanius: Jun 6 2010, 06:13 PM |

QUOTE(nimrod323 @ Jun 6 2010, 06:15 PM) hmm well so far on the integrated chip no such problem, the fans are silent havent tried on the dedicated if you know what i mean. Mine's plugged to a 24" display on clamshell mode, so it's using the dedicated one... whenever i play video or music over external HDD, fan speed goes up to 5200rpm, I'd just happened to open the lid without triggering any extended display mode (didn't know I can do that - System Profiler says internal monitor not connected), fan speed went down to 3400rpm... so clamshell mode does trap heat to a certain extent...? EDIT: Fan speed at 3600+rpm watching a 480p video on external HDD, heavy downloading, and medium browsing... This post has been edited by Eithanius: Jun 6 2010, 06:43 PM |

QUOTE(Syd G @ Jun 6 2010, 05:57 PM) Hey guys, Just curious... how do you define unresponsive...? My trackpad is not as responsive as before. I havent run the Apple Hardware Test yet. Will do that after this. But since I bought my beloved MBP from the AppleStore, where should I send it for repairs? Will retail stores accept it or do I have to go to Jalan Yap Kwan Seng myself? I'm not sure if this happens to you guys, but mine has a half second delay in single finger tap... double finger tap to right click is ok, so does trackpad clicking... |

QUOTE(Xirality @ Jun 13 2010, 01:42 PM) aiyo. Im so struggling between mac and pc now. either build a beasty pc or get 17" macbook pro. I need some poison from you guys. cause now im form 4, after form 5 i'll be going to college. dang! QUOTE(Xirality @ Jun 13 2010, 01:57 PM) oh, forget to mention. This 17" I'll be use it until I start working. That time only I have money to change. Get both a beasty PC for your gaming needs and MBP 13" for college... If you're doing graphical stuff which requires a large resolution, then only you get a 17" MBP... or a 15" i7 to last you longer and share your beasty PC display with your MBP... simple.... QUOTE(Xirality @ Jun 13 2010, 06:42 PM) I'm not rich... I bought mine with my hard-earned money working my ass off... I can't even afford a computer during my SPM years... You can buy after SPM, by that time there should be a MBP refresh in Dec '10 or Jan '11.... As for the time taken to familiarise OS X... It shouldn't be difficult... QUOTE(baoz @ Jun 16 2010, 04:55 PM) I just ordered my 13" MBP, yay! Expected to ship next week. good luck on that... One Q on batteries since we're on it now. I usually use my laptop at home on my workstation so it's plugged in to AC power all the time. And I definitely would wanna extend my battery life as long as I can so... 1. Do I take out my battery as long as I'm plugged in? 2. If so, how many % should I leave it at when I take it out.. 100% or 50% or less? |

QUOTE(baoz @ Jun 16 2010, 04:58 PM) ?? nowadays laptop battery charging tech has evolved to the extent that once the battery are fully charged, it will only continue to provide power to your laptop without overcharging your battery...Err.. I'm guessing you can't remove MBP batteries like other laptops out there...? Sorry I haven't received my MBP yet I don't know how it looks like. >.< |

QUOTE(nimrod323 @ Jun 17 2010, 04:58 PM) nope there isnt any, get the apple one RM299 only, plus if you have ACPP on your BP this product is also covered for 3 years, plus it's cheaper compared to the likes of HP or DELL Wow... I didn't know price drop, previously it was like RM359 or something....Btw, is a MagSafe adaptor covered under ACPP... I've always thought MagSafes are like batteries, part of consumables, which are not covered under ACPP... |

QUOTE(lexcorp @ Jun 17 2010, 07:37 PM) Got...I should have gone for a bigger 17" screen i7 or at least a 15" Hi-Res i7... but what the heck, resellers say 3 - 4 weeks for CTO, and I don't have credit card to buy online, and kinda needed it urgently... Otherwise my MBP performed admirably... Owned it for over a week, and so far the heaviest workload is heavy Photoshop editing and, 3 straight days of data recovery... |

QUOTE(dvlzplayground @ Jun 20 2010, 06:40 PM) did it freeze like that, or u can still use ur mac? looks like it got stuck during the transition from the blue screen to ur normal desktop still can use...see next time if this happens again, I'm gonna try messing with Color Adjustment, read somewhere it's the culprit here... otherwise the mbp's fine... PS: just notice another software bug, whenever I receive SMSes via BluePhoneElite, the backlit keyboard goes off... |

QUOTE(LAZZIBaoY @ Jun 20 2010, 10:55 PM) I have a Question here, You don't game, you don't do graphics intensive apps...?If I go for the 15' 2.4Ghz, and priced RM5899. But with all the customization, I only include the ACPP and Microsoft Office edi. As I am just a student and not knowing anything about editing photos or using those sort of function. Is it really enough just for an average use? And for those using the lowest 13' inch model, do you guys add further customization? For this model I just added with the HD at 500, MOffice and ACPP. I am looking for a laptop that I could work on my thesis and research nothing much, maybe watching some good movies thats all Any comments would be helpful..Cheersss Even basic 13" with 4GB will do fine for Office, customise a 500GB 5400rpm... save up the rest of the money for more RAM later i.e. 6GB or 8GB if need arises... 13" is portable to carry around your school... Else order stock 250GB 5400rpm, then perhaps later you can upgrade to 500GB 7200rpm drive... bear in mind that ACPP will not cover any parts upgraded outside of Apple... or if you break anything as a result of a self-upgrade... If you insist on 15" 2.4GHz, better still, it gets to last you longer, better graphics in case you become a game or photogenic freak later... QUOTE(LAZZIBaoY @ Jun 20 2010, 11:19 PM) YES, thx for your advice...mind asking which model are u using? And your specs? My spec's on my siggy....But the ACPP really does make me think is it really that necessary? And yes ACPP is always recommended as it may come in handy - laptop components are expensive to replace out of warranty... However ACPP is not necessary to be purchased at the same time if you're tight on budget... You have a duration of 1 year to buy ACPP from your date of purchase of your MBP, but not after.... But if you can afford to buy ACPP at the same time, go ahead... who knows, you might need ACPP phone support as original Apple limited warranty that comes with any mac only provides phone support for first 90 days...
