QUOTE(shanecross @ Jun 24 2010, 10:55 AM) since it only happened once maybe u can just shrug it off btw if u boot from the OSX DVD, u can do a disk repair. when the dvd loads, go to Utilities at the top n find disk utility. assuming it detects ur internal hard drive and it shows up on the left panel, u can select it and click on "Repair Disk" on the right |

i guess what he meant was most adobe apps dont get much benefit if u go from 4gb to 8gb.
btw if u guys wanna upgrade to 2x4gb RAM, juz make sure u really need it la. for the price, it's not really "buy 1st lah see how later". |

QUOTE(izact @ Jun 26 2010, 03:42 PM) Guys..i bought a original dvd (movie) and played with normal flat CRT TV..(not yet LCD hehehe). The picture quality is up to my expectation (apatah lg kalau LED @ LCD hehehe)..so my thought was if the DVD were to played on my mbp..the quality would be better..but it turns otherwise.. it was similar to other notebook quality...maybe im lack of display technologies knowledge..and hope someone might advice..tq despite today's tech, CRTs actually have better contrast. it's just that it's hard to make it huge, and even then it'll take too much spacetry watching astro on a CRT n compare with the latest LED tvs but CRT cannot handle hi-def la of course Added on June 26, 2010, 11:16 pm QUOTE(LAZZIBaoY @ Jun 26 2010, 10:24 PM) Quick question....any Macbook Pro user's here uses windows ie Vista o XP? Any comments? i think lots of us here is still using windows, but only for gaming or launching specific programs that's not available on OSXOr you guys just immerse yourself with SnowLeopard? for any other stuff, we stick with SL. why not? QUOTE(idiotidiot @ Jul 3 2010, 08:47 AM) a quick question: let's say i'm not always on the go with my mbp(maybe once in a month), because i probably use it when i'm at home where power outlets are literally everywhere, should i just plug in the power whenever i wanna use my mbp? or should i just use up a lil' power from battery before charging up again? but by doing this, aint that gonna induce unnecessary battery charging cycle? u can plug in all the time, as long as it's convenient for you. but u shud calibrate (see xaw1526's post above) once a week or fortnight or so. yes it'll induce unnecessary battery cycles, and calibration doesnt improve battery life at all. it's just a step to make sure OSX gets accurate info about ur battery.QUOTE(RaymondT @ Jul 3 2010, 10:54 AM) Hey guys, any new Macbook user? Just need your input here. Is the casing easily scratch like some of the review mentioned? Thinking of either Macbook or Macbook Pro now....both almost same spec...only Pro is extra RAM, Aluminum body, better screen, Firewire and SD card....My usage is only for my office use, keynote, numbers, pages and emails. The only worries me is the body of the Macbook as I travel a lot to do presentations. All my Apple stuff have casings....like my iPod Classic, iPhone and also iPad....so I will definately get a casing as well for either Macbook or Macbook Pro so just need to know how easily the Macbook body gets scratch? Thanks. how easily is easily for you? plastic is plastic, no magic there |

QUOTE(RaymondT @ Jul 3 2010, 01:47 PM) » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « I really take care of my stuff. I mean I don't get things scratch easily. For example, my iPhone 3GS I've been using for 6 months and there's no scratch on the back at all except for a few scratches on the chrome part, my iPod classic been using for a year and no scratch at the back at all as well. I have both in casing since day 1. Just that after reading review from Engadget with the comment "it scratches like crazy. Seriously -- all we've really done with our review unit is take it out of the box, snap some photos, and move it around the office for a day, and the top looks like it's been attacked by a bear." This remark worries me. I mean I know plastic is plastic but the review makes the Macbook seems like plasticine if you know what I mean. QUOTE(PeeEl @ Jul 3 2010, 01:53 PM) I believe majority of us knows about calibrating the battery. In my case, I actually did what you stated, which I know about of course and somehow my battery had the 'health' issue. But taking cognizance of the technician's advice, thus far the health of my battery is still 100%. Again, rightly or wrongly, they are supposed to be in the know technically and therefore for people like me would take heed of their advice. 1st of all, u have to realize some 'technicians' dont know what they're talking about. some of them are still stuck with old rules like charging 8 hours before using etc.In any event, since there are so many versions of how to keep the battery in good health, albeit without too much variation, I suppose each owner will have to do what they believe is best. calibrating the battery doesnt make your battery healthy, it just to make sure OSX and the battery understands each other. that's why it's called "battery calibration" not "battery maintenance/improvement" etc. as for how to take care of ur battery, just dont let it heat up too much. in those cases where the reported battery health increased after calibration, it's because OSX realized that the battery health is better after calibration. battery health doesnt improve, it's a consumable, an irreversible process. think of a car fuel gauge. a bad one may say ur tank is empty when actually it's full, and vice versa. a good one simply gives more accurate info about ur fuel, it doesnt actually increase ur fuel This post has been edited by dvlzplayground: Jul 3 2010, 02:26 PM |

QUOTE(ksc_3688 @ Jul 4 2010, 12:43 PM) Hi guys. Need an opinion from u guys. I need to buy a laptop for my sis. She wants the MacBook white color and I heard the white one will get cracked easily. Is it true? obviously plastic is easier to crack compared to aluminium. else, it shud be like any other plastic laptop out there. another thing to consider...white macbook is definitely harder to keep looking clean, esp the rubber bottom partI'm using the mbp so I'm not sure about the MacBook. The reason she wants the MacBook is because it's white and looks better than the mbp. And if I decide to get the MacBook, should I upgrade the ram from 2gb to 4gb ? Thanks maybe better buy a mbp 13" with white casing? RAM depends on what she does of course. the only time i need 4gb is when i have a VM running. else, 2gb is enough. |

QUOTE(rockstar_ @ Jul 5 2010, 03:16 AM) i used macbook for more than a week now. all functions is good and really satisfy with the quality except for: 1. there are plenty of guides on how to remove dead pixels online. maybe u can give them a try?1. a red stuck pixel. feels like crazy when looking at it. 3. huge memory consumption. 4. cannot close lid while letting my macbook on. maybe im not quite familiar with mac because before this i used windows and ubuntu. can anyone can give me opinions? thanks. 2. there IS cut&paste function but for text (it's cmd+x). it works a bit different for files. drag-n-drop a file from one place to another within the same volume is a move (or cut&paste) action. drag-n-drop a file from one volume to another is a copy&paste action. you know it's a copy&paste when there's a green circle with a plus sign at the cursor. so if u want to cut&paste a file from one volume to another, hold down Command while dropping (the green circle will vanish, indicating u're cut&pasting). to change a cut&paste action (when drag-n-dropping within the same volume) to a copy&paste action, hold down Option while dropping 3. what makes u say huge memory consumption? maybe u can share how did u determine that. how much memory u have and what apps are you running? 4. insomniaX, or if u're talking about using an external display... plug in a keyboard/mouse, connect display, close the lid, n wake up ur mac using the keyboard/mouse This post has been edited by dvlzplayground: Jul 5 2010, 07:37 AM |

that's normal lah... if a manufacturer say a battery can last up to X hours, it normally means when doing minimal task. 4 hours is decent enough for me
i agree with the bootcamp drivers though |

There is this tool which allows you to switch on the fly (even for 9600gt/9400gt , no more logout/login) . Its called gfx card status , i got it and its working great http://codykrieger.com/gfxCardStatus/ Some neat find When my MBP is on Intel graphics [attachmentid=1688966] When my MBP is using nVidia Graphics. It seems that its able to output sound via HDMI , notice Audio Device - nVidia [attachmentid=1688971] |
