Overall i'm happy wif my mbp 13 . Very nice and smooth. The most is like the simplicity of Mac. Love it.

But i juz found out that , Mac service is still very bad i mean in M'sia at least. I got a right arrow key problems juz a minor 1 coz it need to apply more pressure to make work.

So brought my Mbp to the mac store to make some minor twitching. And they told me that need to send to service center in singapore la , this and that la. and other store also the same , need to send to service center but its locally. but somehow you have to send your laptop away for at least 4-5 working days.

I'm juz switch to Mac , before this , i'm a Dell users. Dell can get your things fix on the spot. I think thats the best of Dell. Customer service.

Btw i juz got my Mac for not even a week.

I hope apple in M'sia can improve their service in the future.
*
in malaysia, dell service is really hard to compete with. anyway u can try directly go to VR tech or sapura, if u're lucky they can service for you on the spot

to all the mac guru, anyone have the problem of the 13' macbook pro tingling effect (electric static shock) when connecting to the power adaptor?
*
it's a common issue. use the extended charger cable with the 3-pin plug. dont just use the plug-only one

cause: malaysian grounding tongue.gif

^ congrats! good choice smile.gif

MBP display is really good. i think it's silly to do photo editing on a sub-par display like most pc laptops have

i would still like to try the Macbook Webcam while my OS is only Win7( meaning no OSX and Bootcamp installation )

where can i find the Webcam driver and Bluetooth driver to install manually into my Win7 ( on this MacBook )

thanks
*
have u tried the instructions posted by ojimaru?

boot camp is not some kind of specialized windows installation. what it does is just partitioning ur mac n set up so that the mac will boot from a windows dvd. that's all. you can do it manually and get the exact same results

Woohoo just installed windows the other day laugh.gif working well and it asked me to install some anti-virus for it. Should I? I mean if my windows gets virus, will it affect my mac?
*
if ur windows gets virus, it'll just affect ur windows, not ur mac.

however, rmember that u might transfer an infected file into mac. it still wont affect ur mac, but if (in OSX) u share the infected file with someone else, they can get infected

come here and sign up everyone!!
we pay so much for a stupid hinge=.=

1st of all, u are really outdated tongue.gif ppl were complaining about this regarding the late 2008 macbook pro, the 1st gen unibody ones. the thing is, im using that exact model and i dont experience this issue. even when i was using the speck casing (thus heavier weight), my mbp lid never closed down by itself. even after >1.5 years of usage

cRazYee is right, the smoothness of the hinge lets us open the lid with one hand only. did u notice on most laptops u need two hands to pry it open? one hand to lift the lid, another to hold down the body. however, due to the complaints, apple has ALREADY 'FIX' this. if u compare the late 2008 models with the newer ones, the newer ones are slightly harder to open. it's still possible to open with one hand, but not as smooth anymore. apple shouldn't have listened to those complaints +_+

heck, i get 90% of those signing at the petition doesnt even own, or plan to own, a MBP

Has anyone else had problem with pitting/corrosion on the hand rest of their aluminum unibody MBPs?  I've only had mine for some 2 months and little black specs/pits are starting to show up where I usually rest my wrists.  I am NOT.  HAPPY.
*
i had this on my older 2006 MBP, caused by sweaty hands. u should seriously consider a palmrest protector like the moshi palmguard

How effective will the palmguard be???

as i can see, it covers the top part, not the edges, i fear the most is the heat, place a plastic on top, plus the mbp has no proper ventilation like an alienware or a hp envy..
*
angrydog was talking about the corrosion thing, not heat. palmguard and magic eraser was suggested to avoid it, but they have nothing to do with your issue: heat

aluminium MBPs are hot because of the aluminium material, a good heat conductor. the whole body kinda serves as a heatsink. heat is transferred from the inside to the alu body, and to the ambience. this is similar to the HP envy, another aluminium body notebook. im not sure about alienware, but their thicker size should accomodate

the hottest part should be the section between the keyboard and screen anyway. the palmrest never felt hot to me, juz warm.

Corrosion on alu?
Wow, Alu will only corrode in certain special case, certainly not u can do in normal case

I thunk I know you
*
to be honest, im not sure if it's corrosion or not, but it is possible for aluminium to corrde. they were black spots, and they're definitely not stains

it looked something like this:

I don't use hand creams or anything, and I don't wear a watch/jewelry, so the only cause of the corrosion I can think of is my sweat.  They look like black specks (a bit like in dvlz's photo, but smaller), except that when you run your finger over them you can feel the pit/depression!  It's terrifying.  I'm going to take it over to the service center downtown next to the Australian High Commission on Monday for the staff to take photos and tell me what can be done.
*
yeap that's it... can feel the small pits. glad to know im not alone smile.gif

Hi All,

My HP died... and am in a dilemma to get a Dell or Mac for replacement...

Mainly for personal use, just normal surfing, chatting, blogging, MS Office, and Programming in SQL and .NET probably...

Am very tempted to get the MBP... but I've some queries, hoping anyone here to shed some light on... Thanks in advance..

i) I have external hdd in NTFS format, well, typical Windows, so, can Mac OS reads from and writes into the hdd? If not, can the Windows inside the bootcamp reads from and writes into the hdd?

ii) How long a MBP can usually last a typical, careful and considerate user? Not bringing around that much...

iii) Can files be transferred between the MAC OS and the bootcamp Windows?

I'm very tempted to get the Mac but I'm worried about the incompatibility issues with lots of things...
please help..

Thanks!
*
i) juz install ntfs-3g n you're good to go!

ii) hard to answer this question. the aluminium build, the hinge etc is definitely sturdier than most plastic laptops. as for the components, depends on ur luck i guess, could be 2, 5 or even 8 years. there was a high-profile research comparing notebook quality from different brands, n apple ranked 4th after asus, sony and toshiba. take what you will from that. but it's good to know that ACPP provides pretty good customer service, n macs typically have relatively higher resale value too

iii) normal copy n paste

for programming i think running windows in a virtual machine would be sufficient. but then im not a programmer lah, juz based on my limited experience doing courseworks tongue.gif
