QUOTE(Falk @ Apr 15 2010, 02:10 PM) Just to clarify, it's not that CoD4 competitive players are idiots who succumb to placebo effect. I'm well aware of the 'industry standards' i.e. film 24fps, NTSC 29.97fps drop frame, etc and the fact that no matter how high your ingame FPS goes, your monitor still displays at 60Hz/75Hz/whatever the refresh rate is. The higher 125/250 FPS target is due to a peculiarity in the CoD4 engine, which derives from a peculiarity with its parent engine, the Q3Arena engine, where physics is calculated with the same precision as the rendering FPS. 125 and 250 are the 'peak points' just due to how the engine works - you jump higher/further, can move at a slightly faster speed before making footsteps, and actually take less fall damage when your FPS is solidly one of those two. Incidentally Q3A patched the issue so that it calculates physics at 125 ticks per second regardless of FPS, but Infinity Ward never bothered. Probably because they already considered CoD a console franchise back then. Fagggots. Just to add, 24fps isn't sufficient to render a game smoothly as each frame is rendered individually instead of being part of a "motion" which is what is used in a regular video. Hence, for a game to look "smooth", a minimum of 60fps is required.

60 FPS is not smooth lol. Maybe for casual yes, but competitive 60 fps is suicidal lol!

The problem is, to have a monitor or TV thats capable of running at 120 Hz is very expensive wei.
After entering the command "com_maxfps 125" Im surprise there were no screen tearing on my 60hz monitor even though it's indicated on the xfire fps that the screen is refreshing at 125 fps.
Where is the screen tearing? or is the game still juz running at only 60fps max?

This may be outside the realm of practical discussion but people can easily tell the difference between 60, 200 and 1000 distinct still frames per second when we're talking about pre-rendered footage (i.e. when rendering for animated film, or more related to the discussion, CoD4 engine rendering for frag movies) even if the final output is 30 or 24fps with each of those being a composite of several frames of footage. 60/75fps is visually acceptable in our culture today as 'smooth' because that's what monitors have been running at for decades, i.e. what we're used to. Or maybe they became the standards since that's what people perceived as smooth. Whatever works.

Well considering how some ppl still have a hard time differentiating between 480p and 720p (And some with 720p and 1080p), its not exactly safe to assume that anyone can tell the difference between 60 and 200 fps so easily.

well, I think I will just play at the current fps that my computer is capable or running (125fps according to xfire). Usually on other games, Anything above 60fps, I will start to see screen tearing.
Anyway, after playing 10 hours of multiplayer. I think im getting the hang of the pace. Running around blindly looking for kills mostly just get me killed. What I learn - I think is that I gotta slow-down alil and do lots of "peekaboo". Having said that I now know why lean is actually a useful tool.
Knifing ppl in cod4 is so much more rewarding compare to BC2 even though you get to collect their dogtag as a souvenir.

@ JuzJoe
Yours truly being a bloodlusted, trigger happy, menacing, son of a gun by nature also got fragged often for being overly offensive in CoD4, however I think and felt that’s not the case when I’m playing CoD5 because I don’t remember getting irritated much by camper(s) in CoD5.
