Guys - appreciate all the responses and feedbacks!
@fongzai - thanks for showing how the hairgrass supposed to be tanam-ed. I guess this is really farming, planting them and wait for results after some time. What I did was trying to create the carpet instantly, of coz thats why I tot I need many2 pots. So I guess to tanam about an inch between the grass should be OK?
to actually egt a natural looking carpet you need to let it grow by itself, the way that fongzai did was good but it would be better if you in d future seperate the hairgrass even more and just plant them like u said an inch apart.. i would say 5 to 6 leaves per hole that would be great!
Also, michanz mentioned about your 8W t5ho lighting. can you elaborate more? I think my lighting only concentrates at the centre so thats why those at the sides are not doing well.
hard to explain without pictures.. but for ur small tank, u need 2 x 8watt light.. the ones fongzai is using currently and its really cheap to just DIY! u will see clearly when fongzai post his picture of his lights
New questions:
1. Driftwood - can I only use driftwood (whats driftwood anyway) or can I just go around and look for nice looking branches. My tank is small so I need to look for smaller branches. Those sold in pet shops are normally bigger ones.
driftwood is actually pieces of trees branches or stumps or the whole tree that have actually drifted out from the rivers into the sea! and slowly got washed ashore on the beach, thats why it is smooth long lasting piece of wood.. and if u just go around ur taman and find those branches well ofcourse can, just that it breaks down fairly quickly! and if the wood is not dried or dead, it will rot in ur tank! shops do sell small ones! make sure u know which shop to go!
2. How to tanam plants/moss on the driftwood? Where to get them and I think need to ikat to the branch right?
mosses are easily available in almost all LFS(local fish shop) though they can get quite expensive, but u will only need a small portion and theyll grow like wildfire in ur tank! basically is u tie them neatly onto the driftwood.. either will normal benang or fishing line..
3. I think I will go through the forum again on how to start on getting a CO2 tank that fits my small aquarium...
co2 tank u can get for about rm200 - 300 lar for a small one.. but u can get rm150 ones which are the size of ur leg though.. eyesore? but cheap nonetheless!
4. This Saturday got a workshop in SLS right, can I attend? Need to be a member or anything?
yeah u need to be a member firsT! to be a member u need to fill up a couple of form and pay a small fee of rm50 to join the club..!
JUST KIDDING
ofcourse its free! and since ur new to this, its a PERFECT time to learn about the A-Z of setting up a planted tank as this saturday a seasoned aquascaper will be having a live exhibition on how to start up a planted tank! loads to learn, and LOADS to spend so make sure u bring ur credit card!
Thanks guys!
