It should be software update for current byond decoder to be capable for recording function using external hard drive.
I hope Astro won't charge for this feature
The different with your DVD recorder is it can schedule recording time using EPG & might support HD resolution as well.

Might be using IP network. If you notice, byond decoder has a network port. They might utilize it by connecting it to your broadband router. Just my guess Theoretically it's capable.
btw I don't want it as I foresee it's invasion of my privacy

You need to ask TallJustin for this one, waiting for him to come back
& you need to remember pendrive using FAT16 file system which file size limited to 2GB only.
Worst thing is you must use 'Astro' brand hard drive but I hope not

Well, actually they already rent to us at RM20/month, that's why byond decoder is belong to them now

Because it only have 1 tuner. Same like if you using DVD recorder now, you can't change channel if you want to record it.

Byond recorded video might be protected by DRM while DVD recorder is not. But you can only get SD resolution by using external recorder unless you're using something like HDFury2 as one of forumer here posted back in V3.

but astro didn't use 1080p24 as a standard, maybe because old display not support this format. Almost all display can handle 1080i50

some software like xbmc can force display refresh rate to match video, every time I start to play movie using my laptop, my tv will go blank for 2-3s. Some people might feel it annoying, but I find it is useful.
It will be good if Astro can do 1080p24 for some program like DIRECTV does. It actually uses almost same bandwith like 1080i50 that Astro currently using.

& for qualifying & race only. pre & post race highlight/analysis & media conference also not available in ESPN HD.
But tbh, i'm not disappointed although not fully satisfy PQ way better than Star Sport

Yeah, me too. But the problem is when you switch it off completely, you need to wait for 1 minute lol. Last time, when i ask TallJustin about this one he mention it might be warm, not hot. But i kinda disagree, it still hot.

I think it was recorded in HD, they just don't broadcast it in HD yet. Maybe they do some trial in HD since day 1 because this is the 1st time they will do live telecast in HD. I bet it will be HD, not upscaled.
Btw i like upscaled, it's way better than SD. Astro just need to be honest when they actually upscaled it.

Channel 101 has better PQ than 801 & 119. You're right then, from 101 to 801. 119 PQ is terrible.

If your TV support PiP, then you can do that. Watch channel 831 on your byond, tune your PiP to terrestrial TV1. Make sure to connect external antenna.

I think if that is the case, you just directly nego with installer. There's installer adv here for byond installation. Actually Astro won't allow you install 2nd decoder at different location from main decoder.
