I always though getting a TV is like the the normal plug & play type. Did not know there are so many things to know and do (e.g. the first 200 hrs). Thanks for sharing.

Some questions below which I hope the Sifus can help :

a. Why didn't the plasma manufacturer do the first 200 hrs and the calibration at the factories before selling the plasma to customers ? Time and electricity at the manufacturer's expense but a happy customer is a loyal customer, especially in competition with LED. Maybe different people have different visual liking ?

b. after the first 200 hrs in Cinema mode, I assume that I can switch to other mode. Right ?

c. as (b) above, I can increase the settings (brightness etc) after the first 200 hrs. Right ?

d. Should it be continuous 200 hrs or multiples of x hrs to make up to 200 hours ? Say, 5 hrs per day for 40 days ?

Many thanks.

anfieldude,

Thanks for your feedback.

One thing I forgot to add earlier is, how does V20K compare to the latest CRT TV ? In terms of colour quality, colour range, etc.

Not that I want to go back to CRT but don't want to be disappointed later when my V20K eagle has landed. Ha.

Saw in the newspaper a Panasonic sale package for U20K, X20K but NO V20K ! Same thing in their package a few months ago. Why no special offer for V20K ? Selling too well ?

Via a good friend's help, learnt about the special offer from SenQ for 50V20K at RM 4999 with 2+1 yrs warranty and RM 399 for BD45 with 1+1 yrs warranty. Ordered one set today. Think this is a good deal. Can't wait to get them at the end of the month.

Hope that BD45 can play Uncle Ho's DVD/bluray discs.

Will check with Panasonic on whether they will accept the warranty for 4 & 5 th years as the 3rd yr is under SenQ.

Are all HDMI cables about the same quality ? If not, any type/brand I should get ?

Thanks.

Got my Pana 50 V20K yesterday. Set it up last night and have clocked 2:53 hrs when I checked this morning. Impressed and happy with the picture quality though at low settings for the first 200 hrs.

Like to know from the Sifus how long is too long for static images, e.g. TV1 logo on the top right hand side. 30 mins ? 60 mins ? Or longer ?

Thanks.

Thanks PoorMan.

One thing I forgot to add in my previous thread. After the 200 hrs, I assume the black top and bottom bars are acceptable especially when watching movies. My layman's view is that the burn-in after 200 hrs will not be that bad anymore though it can still happen. Right ?

Happy New Year & Going Xii Fatt Chai to all !!

Still in the low setting mode for my V20K for the 1st 200 hrs. So far, impressed with the TV.

Like to confirm that after the first 200 hrs at low settings, I can then go for the higher settings without burning images onto the screen. Right ?

P/S Just to share a learning here. After I set up my new TV onto ASTRO, noted that I got frequent reception interruptions, thinking it was either bad weather or a mouse has "eaten" part of the antenna cable. Neither one. Cause of the problem was the palm tree I have next to the receiver was getting in the way. Wife noted that and remove the branch. Now, no more interruptions and happy with the image quality. Enjoying watching movies etc now on the bigger screen !

Many on this forum use the term "burn-in" to mean the same thing as "image retention". that is incorrect. burn-ins are more permanent. I believe you meant "image retention" (IR) in your question above.

Having cleared that up, no, passing the 200hrs mark does not guarantee you will not get any IR, irrespective of what your settings are. Your panel can still suffer from IR even though you have phased it in past the 200 hour mark. best practice is to always be conscious of not leaving any static images on the screen for prolonged periods of time, esp tv station logos. however, when you do notice any IR, do a screen wash (snow wash) as soon as possible and the problem should disappear fairly quickly.

Thanks terranova.

Noted on the IR.

How can we then avoid / minimise BI ?

Stupid question from me. By snow-wash, you mean the black and white dots one gets when on a blank channel ?

Thanks.

Got my Valentine's gift from ASTRO today ! Just kidding. They installed ASTRO BYPOND this afternoon. Impressed with the HD programs. For those still trying to decide, my recommendation is just do it ! Go and get a Pana 50" V20K and ASTRO BYOND. You will be amazed at the bigger screen and HD programs, bringing your TV viewing enjoyment to new levels.

Plan to get either a blu-ray player or BR-media player later.

Sifus,

Need your advice on this. Nearly 200 hrs now, still on low settings, 30+. Like the picture quality when viewing History, AXN etc. Noted that when on AEC the Taiwanese studio shows, the picture quality isn't as good, rather pale. So what is OK for one channel isn't OK for another channel. How can I overcome this ? Thanks.

Will doing the calibration resolve this ?

I doubt it can. The problem is mostly in the source. Post calibration HBO HD and Star Movies HD channels looks spot on. The rest are almost ok, except for some shows. Live football is also different, most of the time EPL will look different compared to La Liga. So its the source. What u can hope to have after calibration is calibrate to standards and hope for the best. In my opinion, it works most of the times.

THANKS !

Need your help.

Tried 4 pen drives and my V20K can only recognise one. The pen drives are all MS formatted. Please advise on how I can get V20K to read the other 3 pen drives. Need to reformat the pen drives ?

Thanks.

thanks..

but it's almost a double of the price from 42" to 50" where only 8" diff.

really a big decision huh...

mostly will take 42" in 2 weeks time if the 50" price still high.

need to measure again the watching distance..

My 2 cents from my 50 V20K experience. I enjoy watching ASTRO now on my 50 V20K. Why ? Bigger screen and better picture quality. I have seen 42" TV but personally feel that it is small. 50 or bigger will give you a better viewing experience. Yes, more $ for the 50".

That's their normal price tag. I last quoted the 42" at RM3899 before the CNY in SenQ Sibu. I saw plumberly mention he got his 50V20K from SenQ Sibu for RM4999 but that's the price for Plus One member if I'm not mistaken. Be a Plus One member cost you RM12 only and you get 2+1 year warranty.

Thanks to willkso for doing the survey and informing me on SenQ's special offer for 50 V20K ! TV manufactured in Nov 2010 ! Happy with SenQ service and the TV itself. 9 out of 10 so far.

P/S Programmed my ASTRO remote for switching the TV on and off. Problem is when I switch it on using ASTRO remote, it goes to TV mode. How can I set it up such that it will go to HDMI 1 as default ? When I use Pana remote to switch it on, it will go to HDMI1 as default. Thanks.

Just for sharing. Learnt from my son how to resolve this. There is an AV/TV button at the bottom left of the ASTRO remote control. Press that to bring you to the HDMI screen.
