hi guys! gonna buy my first suit this week...planning to wear for occasions and conferences...went and survey around sunway pyramid for brands like g2000, padini, topman, etc.... Just a few questions as i've really no clue what i should be buying...
1. g2000 seems to be selling their suits at around rm899 which is way out of my budget, looking at padini/seed suits which are around rm400 or may even consider topman's (rm500++). Just wondering whether those are worth the purchase in terms of their quality and durability? 2. Any other brands within those price range(<rm600) that maybe offers better overall quality? 3. Is there need for any alterations after buying a suit and what types of alterations that are possible. Any suggestions or advice are greatly appreciated!! |

I find most of the Asian brands (G2000 etc.) crap in terms of quality, and overpriced. You could always try online, Asos springs to mind. I've a few shirts from them myself, nothing to shout about but quite decent quality for the price. Or Brands Outlet. Admittedly, I'm not much of a suit connoisseur.

If that suit will make you look the way you want to look, or could be from what you see from magazine or movie. If you could find a similar looking off the rack suit for your budget, then its more than enough already. Seriously the main hindrance for everyone is brand and price. 1. g2000 seems to be selling their suits at around rm899 which is way out of my budget, looking at padini/seed suits which are around rm400 or may even consider topman's (rm500++). Who cares if you buy a suit from Aeon's own brand Suave? You should start from there. The most important is to try the cuts. Slim or Regular. Most suits outside are already slim cutting already. So no problem in finding a modern one. You should not burden yourself with canvasing, and all those details. Start slow. Use the time to try those suits on and look properly the shoulder should not show crease, waist not awkward looking and length of coat that u think works for your height. If European and US, its easier, as they sell their suits as Tall, Regular or Short. But here, u need to try on to know what you are expecting. When i bought a suit for my aunts kid for his presentation, i went to Suave and we spent like an hour trying this and that until we went home with a perfect one. |

Thanks i visited both esteem fahion and spark master tailoring facebook pages. i am a bit hesitant to go to older tailors because i don't know if they still stuck in their 1970s era and because of that then they will make a suit for me that represents those years in the past. i want a modern tailor who knows about modern cut suits and can make good ones. I have gone through all the posts on this thread and honestly I don't see anything that catches my eye. I don't mind some users doing publicity directly or indirectly for their own tailor shops but its just that I am not convinced after visiting the mentioned tailors facebook pages. anyone has any other recommended tailors i can take a look? if ada facebook page of the tailor that would be lagi best! |

I have little question about canvassing in suits.
I tailored a suit for myself with 90:10 wool silk blend just 2-week ago and went for a fittings last week (and going to receive it next week). The tailor only offers partial canvas and I know that the remaining part will definitely be fused. But, I noticed the part under the canvas was fused as well on the same thickness with the lower part. Is this normal for half canvas to be fused fully supported with a half canvas on top? Or that the fully fused is normally thicker? |

^Don't really understand your question. A canvas is used regardless whether it is a full canvassed construction (floating canvas) or fused (glued). It is what gives the suit shape. You are concerned about the thickness(?), but there should be no difference in the thickness for either construction.

There is no such thing as half canvas. No. Such. Thing. None. Doesn't exist. Your jacket is fused.
Also, unless the cloth is from a reputable brand known by all and sundry, it is exceptionally unlikely there is any silk in that joke of a cloth. Nor is there even any wool. It's all fake China stuff. Unless the brand is well known. |

been reading up about suits for my wedding.
is this advise still current ? That M'sian suit tailors are still lacking ? 2010 thread I'm no expert in suit/dressing but at a friend's recommendation paid bespoke in One Utama a visit. if the tailoring is not good, would an off the shelf suit be better ? Budget of RM2.5k per suit ... and thinking of getting 2 (photoshoot + dinner and one for the ceremony itself) |
