I'm using iPhone 3GS with firmware 3.1.3 and jailbroken with Spirit.
How can I "upgrade" to iOS 4.0.1 without going straight to 4.0.2 as Apple directed?

I had already "made my life easier" with Cydia before and now it shows the following each time I open Cydia:

This device had SHSHs on file for iPhone OS / iOS: 3.1.3 4.0 4.0.1

Am I correct to download the firmware file: iOS 4.0.1 for iPhone 3GS from this post?

Should I modified my Windows HOST file and add 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com in it to do this upgrade?

Should I enter DFU mode before I proceed with the [Shift]+Click? (I read I should do this if I want to downgrade, but how about upgrade?)

I think that's all the questions I need for this moment, wish someone with experience could help and I would like to thanking you in advanced! 

I have an issue here. I was trying to upgrade fro m 3.1.3 to 4.0.1 following the steps above. However, it prompted 3194 error & now my phone stuck at apple logo.

How to get it out & boot the phone?

DFU in blank black screen while Recovery is with the usb cable plug in screen right??

May I know how to manage to restore it??

completely off because i press sleep/wake button lock screen still not appear..if i hold sleep/wake button for 6sec still cant ON..my iphone is not official unlock version..im jb and unlock myself..if i restore first, sure my iphone in lock condition right?

FYI i just upgrade my phone from 3G to 3GS. Got lots of apps/games on 3GS. how to restore apps/games file from my 3GS to pc, coz when i sync using itunes it will erase all the data.

yes it is 3g locked official. i ask my fren bout it and he tell me to unlock using different way other than redsn0w. he think is it a firmware fault.
i dont want to do it because i already can use it and scare if there is problem after.but im sick of restart every time i want to use it..urghhhh

i cant mms to other phones 
i have the picture icon next to the message bar, but when i wanna send mms to somebody it keeps failing.
it says [" your message was not sent. tap"try Again" to send this message].
my line wasn't barred cause i can make calls.
is it the problem with the settings or what?

i tried the OTA link, it says its currently unavailable for apple iphone 4 settings.

wanted to keyed the settings manually so i went to settings>general>network>cellular data ON, but cant find a way to key in the settings manually..
anybody know the way to bypass the ip4 cellular data settings and manually key in from normal 3gs settings?
my number have activated gprs already last time, could send mms and short videos using my old phone btw.
