For starters, I am NOT saying the 4G supports the 4G network speed.
I was stating the obvious as M'sia has no 4G network speed, or god knows, anywhere near it.
And perhaps the Iphone 4G has built in support for 4G, who knows?
We shall know when the release is near.

iphone 3g is not really third generation as there is 2 3G title..but of course 3GS might be third generation speed..

Current Firmware : 1.x (dint check properly terus jump to restore)
Current network: (for example Maxis) maxis
iTunes Version : 9.1.1
PC/MAC : PC
Jailbreaking software : REDSNOW
Problem Encountered : during restore > promtp error > 2003
Steps Taken So Far : tried 1.14, 3.0.1, 3.1.3 (all ipsw)

Other Information/Remarks :
1. downloaded latest itune 9.1.1 version.
2. shift + click restore at itune.
3. select 3.1.3 but hit error code 2003.
4. go dfu mode > try 3.0.1 n 1.1.4 but still hit the same error.
5. now googling error code 2003. really need help.

@ah_fui: have you try to enter DFU mode and try restore again. maybe if in the DFU mode it can restore without any problem.

You can. My phone is always in locked mode and no need to unlock it. Not sure if it differs in terms of os etc. Mine normal 3gs 32 fw 313 non jb

Hi guys~ i just wana get opinions before purchasing an iphone~

If i buy a overseas set~ means i need to jb and unlock it~ i cant update it rite?? does it make me to have lots of disadvantages? coz i heard from my fren that the updates are important~ no updates = useless.. is that true?
i can still use like normal rite?
still deciding on digi set or overseas(US) set~ but digi is expensive~

Just out of curiosity I tried it again just now and without unlocking I just plug it it and showed sync in progress. All newly updated app is in my iphone and no unlocking required

Added on May 29, 2010, 7:00 pmDepending on countries where you get it from some doesn't have to to anything in order to jb it. I don't know much on jb since I never jb mine.
Anyway from what I know yes you need to unlock it. I never follow the current news now but it used to be sw only unlock (maybe jb now offer the same thing) or hardware unlock.
If jb provide the same thing to unlock it then with current trend you can update the os but it will be abit further behind since they need to come out with new technique etc...updates or no updates you can still use the phone just that you can't take advantage of the new os has to offer. look at it as your OS (windows or whatever service pack)

anyway there might be problem in claiming warranty etc if there is any problem. furthermore although digi/maxis look expensive but it comes with data plan for the phone as without data plan the phone will just be practically just like a normal phone (which brings about updates or no updates doesn't matter since you can still call/sms/mms).
My advice stick to digi/maxis and for any problem they are right next door. Peace of mind
