Recalled one of you talked about CFD.
Have attended the class for 4 weeks by now and is here to drop a comment!

Unless you want to grind for it, or really like the subject wholeheartedly, don't take it, even if you are from a mechanical background.
To be honest, I am unsure why is it made compulsory to Year 4 Chem Eng, for which they do not really have the essential knowledge for the course, like the Navier-Stoke equation.

The course is divided into two parts, one for learning FLUENT, the CFD software package, and the other for the theory, giving an introduction on turbulence (the main reason why we need CFD), and also the models employed in solving the unknowns of a fluid problem.

I personally am fascinated by fluid problems, as it is very complex and challenging. Oh, I might be fascinated more by the software used, its robustness in solving questions.

Hey there,I am the one who talked about CFD.
Yea,I am fascinated by the program too, especially after my friend showed me what the program can calculate and do.
Those flows are really beauty.
I just hope that I can take it in Chem Eng Year 3 as I don't feel like going into MEng.
btw,I am from Year 2 Chem Eng.

It might just be too tough for you on the theory part.
If what you fancy is just showing the contours, then you just learn yourself on the software itself - although without a strong basic in fluid mechanics, you may still find it hard to do so.
Try to log in to the university's PC, and run FLUENT (and also GAMBIT), read the documentation to get a start. If you think that's what you want, you can continue to do it.

Hmm,I actually ran it before and also did some tutorials.
But I only drew some GAMBIT drawings.FLUENT wise, didn't do much.

FLUENT is the more important thing. GAMBIT is just the drawing and meshing tools only (and a stupid one).

But, if you do not have strong fluid mechanics background, you wouldn't appreciate FLUENT too much also.
The best thing is to pick up a book about fluid mechanics and go through Navier-Stoke equation first and perhaps some readings on boundary layers as well.

I nearly ignore your actual question as I thought the large font is your signature. Why the large font?

Anyway, some of us might be a JPA scholars, but none of us are JPA. Your questions could only be answered by JPA - thus ask them.

err. so do you guys know any seniors which is jpa SCHOLARS went for it?

The JPA scholars I know did not join that.
Those join that I know are not JPA scholars.
That's the best I can tell you.

What is so important for you to know about whether a JPA scholar has done it or not?
If it's a NO, you'll still find ways to make it a YES.
If it's a YES, it might not be YES to you as well.
And the easiest is just ask them, email/call/visit whatever!

I think if you self-fund the program then you don't have to inform JPA anything since it is none of their business regarding how you spend your breaks.

If you gonna ask them to fund the program for you, dream on I say. They fund your studies, not your vacations.

I suggest you just go on the program yourself without informing JPA about anything. If you can afford to fund the WAT USA program it probably means you can fund your own studies, and god knows what they'll do when they know that.

I do know a JPA scholar went for that program but I can't disclose too much info here.
If you are,just go.
If you afford 10k,you might not afford 100..
So funding for WAT is not much a big deal.
It's just up to whether you willing to spend that money or not.
Btw,can you share how did you apply for JPA scholarship?

If I am not mistaken, in the JPA contract, there is something like 'you can't work during your studies without JPA permission', sort of.
Better check back the contract to be sure. And it could only mean part-time job instead of internship during summer break. I do not know the details though.
