How is Ms Geetha or Ms Joyce from Sunway for F9?
*
i was under joyce F9 last sem, perhaps i could 'enlighten' you... haha...

first of all if you are a hardworking student, complete all the work she gave and read up everything before her class then you should be alright in her class, however if you always slack and skip class, then you better watch your back because she can actually recognize 90% of her students by their name(no joke).

she will also give random class test and she will check your homework, like she will actually check through one student by one student when she feels like it... so yeap...

if you are the kind of student that need lecturer to PUSH you really hard(i know some of my friends cannot tahan her so they went for geetha instead) then you can go for joyce, but at the end of the day, she means well. smile.gif if you have been in her class then you would know she is a very 'motivated' lecturer although she scolds a lot... thumbup.gif haha! Her notes are really nice, she really took the effort to design her notes so it's easier to study the theories...

Oh she also emphasize a lot on theory for F9, so that's good as well because F9 is almost like 45%-50% theory... so hope this helps!

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha (vomit blood).

I would suggest doing tax or finance. But P7 really does not make sense wo.

Its people like you the slave house will never run short of slaves.

actually, i also facing problem with it. I definitely will take P6 advance tax, but not sure whether to do P4 or P5.
hearing that P4 is quite tough ( a killer paper ), is it really that difficult??
anyone have any advise or comment??

P6 requires one hell of memory power, its not difficult to remember everything but to remember correctly is a killer. IFHC, REIT and unit trust has same deduction rule but different formula and format. Rememeber the wrong one, zero lo. In tax its always either high marks or low marks. Hard to get between, but hard to get high also la. Its completely different paper compared to F6. Its all about specialization now.

P4 not tough to get the concept but is hard to apply it (almost impossible). Thats why some lecturer can spend an entire class on just one question. Imagine 5 topic, each with 5 chapter, each with 5 different scenario. So with 125 possibilities. And formulae is quite funny one.

In optional is all about time management, but I must sacrifice some areas due to lack of time especially finance. Need time to absorb and digest and then do. Some can just sit there analysing for 1 hour.

Most important NEVER PANIC. Its common for finance that they always ask completely different things that was examined or learned before. Just apply what you know.

In optional, examiner wants to know how well you handle with a new case study rather than tackling the past, hence most questions are brand new and never tested before.

Hope can enlighten you. tongue.gif

I am taking F7 F8 F9

Any tips from sifus here? How to learn? What to pay more attention to? Any magazines to read to boost up some knowledge? Is any of them are memory work need to be done like F4? or the sort of thinking from F5? F6 is a mix for me, some chapters really need memory work, some need understanding and calculations.

Thanks in advance.

I've been under Ms. Joyce for a different paper, so I can't comment on her F9 teachings.

But I can tell you that she is very dedicated and she will help you if only you do your part. Her notes were very organized. And yes, she'll scream at you if you don't do her work her way. I remember the time I was in the huge lecture theater, she took off her shoes and climb on the bench and check everyone's work one by one. She even took the time to ask all the weaker students one by one after class how she could help them. She's also quite good in giving motivation to the class. There was this 1 time she offered RM20 to the first person who finish a question correcty!! brows.gif

I'm looking forward to study under her again thumbup.gif

F7 - calculation, appreciate the standards as they dictate how transactions should be dealt with
F8 - must be well versed with audit terminologies, like being able to know when the examiner is asking for Test of Control vs Substantive procedures
F9 - Calculation + theory, need to practice alot.

Rule of thumb:
I supposed that you planned to have your F9 papers exempted via Advanced Diploma/Degree route.
However, you have to pass all the papers to accumulate enough credit hours to entitle your Advanced Diploma/Degree, then only claim for exemptions using the Advanced Diploma/Degree. Failing one paper (let say, Tamadun Islam), and you won't get your Degree, and thus no exemption for ACCA papers.

However based on the attachment, I think you need to complete just Corporate Finance and Strategic Financial Management papers. Do you need to take the Business Finance paper? I think the Business Finance is an old syllabus paper, which I think is for the previous batch to claim for exemption in F9.

Yup, I graduated a month ago and have received the academic transcript from my school, I was just worried about that Business Finance paper that wasn't given during my course. Thanks for setting my mind at ease though.

I was in his class last term. He uses his own book. I find the class is very detailed which has pros and cons. It can get very boring and you get out of focus but the good side is all the important things will be mentioned in class and will be noted in the book so if you're lost somewhere you can always look it back at home. Questions done in class are from past papers or even his questions but at the same level as exam. He knows tricks and what the examiner expects. Just problem this semester the examiner will change.

He also help students if they do their own work. The point is you must do something. I would recommend him. I asked this forum also who to chose last term.

My tips is read the book after each class. And you'll be prepared for exam. No need to stay up before exam if you do this. Do some of the examples and past year qs. Pay attention to changes for 2010(it will be mentioned in class also)

I think changed lecturer already, and P6 commences in next January. Too remote (even for TARC) to know what will happen then.

I recommend Sunway Uni..I am from Sunway and it has been good so far..No complaints thumbup.gif

Nice environment, place to study at the foyer, nice library, helpful lecturers etc..only thing I don't like is the food available (got some hawker shops nearby campus), its like eating same thing over and over again. Oh and parking can be a pain in the ass depending on time doh.gif

ACCA like any other papers, only tough when you perceived it to be tough. Although it is not easy too.

Nice environment ....... then by all means please avoid KSA, MCO, FTMS and KB. Scared you will curse and vomit blood.
People go there purely for the lecturer like you go petaling street to eat purely for the food not the cleanliness, ambiance, service and what not.

If money is not an issue then go to the likes of taylor or sunway.

FYI, we can choose our own lecturer for each paper, if you are hardworking and smart this should not be a major issue. But if you are not that hardworking and poor like me then a good lecturer is a must.
