anyone using acer 4741g?
3 or 4 posts above i posted about my temp during video encoding. its goddamn high.

so im looking for a laptop cooler. currently in mainland penang. im looking for the price below rm250 (the cheaper also no problem as long as its very very good).

this acer 4741g has a vent output on the left side, and some sort of air sucking fan below also on the left side.

targeted choice: zalman nc2000. any good to my laptop? very interested in nzxt cyro lx, but the availability and price is beyond my range.

bought the laptop 20/7/2010. havent done any service yet. malas lol..
might hunting for zalman tonight.

Thermal paste is a "toothpaste" like stuff applied on the metal plate on top of processors (both CPU and GPU) to help dissipate heat better 
They'll eventually wear out with time and hence need to be replaced 

You need to remove the previous thermal paste 1st, of course
There are a lot of Youtube videos teaching how to do it

I use a thin rubber/plastic glove to spread the thermal paste around so I can get a good feel of the evenness.

Also, I use a special thermal compound remover to clean the die first before applying new paste.

The smell once you open the cap is quite strong. Smells a bit tangy though.

i put a hard book and my cooler when using my laptop on bed..

I was considering that too.

The laptop gets hot in front of the chasis and not back like most laptops so I wonder if there's any other than U2 for that purpose.

Yep ASUS annoys me because they put the warranty sticker right on the HSF screw that hold it down. Even worse in their netbooks like 1015 and 1215, the sticker is on the backplate behind the keyboard so even changing the harddisk is voiding the warranty Acer meanwhile have no such stickers anywhere

I did clean my ASUS but I don't open up the HSF, just merely blow the dust in opposite direction from the fan and clean the fan using old toothbrush. On Acer I have the chance to do repaste. Running sweet for few months now, even both CPU and GPU overclocked it runs pretty cool. Only thing I miss is ASUS palm proof which keeps palm rest area cool, unlike Acer which runs quite warm because the harddisk is right below the left palm rest area. Its a tradeoff I can take, Its better to have warm-ish palmrest rather than have poached harddrive up to 55C

In default mode, the fan seems to have low noise and louder noise though...

sifu lee can use speedfan 4.44 to control fan speed! 18kfangui can cause BSOD leh! dell will auto stop the fan if the temp is below 53!

^no boom, when temp increase, then fan start again..

Fan stop is good for dead silent notebook
