I've been asked to post this by some friends from the TUC Student Council
QUOTE(Taylor's University College Student Council) FAQ - Issues in Lakeside This post has been edited by Hikari0307: May 15 2010, 11:41 PMAs Taylor's University College Student Council (TUCSC) we hope to communicate more with students. We too understand your frustrations and are doing as much as we can to help everybody. Taylorians, Our priority. Hence, below will be some of the concerns and our replies to you on the current issues at lakeside campus. Lakeside NOT enough Parking Space. We are Taylorians too! As of now, we have approx 9000+ students on campus. Our current information on Parking lots in campus are as stated in the PDF file on Student Portal . There are a certain percentage of students that are taking the Taylor's Shuttle bus from hostel as well as students who are doing car pooling. Talking about parking space, from the statistic received by the Facilities Management there are about 200+ available car park lots everyday in the campus. For car park issues the Council is aware of this matter and is currently in amidst of discussion with the Institution on the next course of actions. http://portals.taylors.edu.my/bpmapp-uploa...on%20Campus.pdf The Parking area are damaging our cars Why aren't the Management doing anything for the land to be tar. At the moment, the Council is looking on the car park land safety and it seems like the Institution is taking an initiative to tar the land for Taylorians' safety and convenience. Let's give us a little more time in order to come up with a better plan towards creating a better campus environment for all. Please bear with us for the time being. However, some lands* do not belong to Taylor's hence, the management are Not allow to do anything on the land. (*refer to parking fees charges) Parking Fees charges With the limited resources of car park spaces and the need to maintain car park areas a parking fee will be imposed. However, it will be managed by an External car park operator & we do not know How much the fee would be yet. Please do not speculate the fees as rumors are going on. And before charging the students on parking fee the management will ensure the safety of students hence, most probably will tar the road, put proper road sign, with drawing of car park lots. (This only applies to our Taylor's Land, as the management cannot do anything on those rented land as it is prohibited to tar the land fyi land that belongs to Taylor's is only up till the basketball court & opposite the lake) It is so HOT to walk all the way to campus from car park areas We understand this as we too walk under the sun, however this matter has been brought up to the management and they are considering the possible way for it. Why are some parking lots Reserved to Lecturers and Staffs As students shouldn't we consider our lecturers carrying Laptops & heavy bags walk so far to the campus? think about it. Why so many bumps/speed breakers in campus This is to prevent students from speeding as many near-accidents and accidents had occurred due to students driving very fast and speeding out the turning. This is for the safety of everyone. As to why is it so high answered by facilities management it is the measurement approved. Shuttle Bus too crowded. Not enough buses. The Council is also scrutinizing into the Shuttle Bus issue too so that Taylorians will have other alternatives to access to the campus. Do we need to Pay for Shuttle Bus services? NO. it has been many years that Taylorian's take shuttle bus for Free! If there's any rumor on this please stop spreading. If you heard any bus driver asking for fees do let us know asap. The Traffic is terrible source: The Star (Wednesday May 12, 2010) Measures taken to alleviate traffic congestion in Bandar Sunway and The Star property The management has taken action in this matter hence, please give them some time before the new alternative road is ready. http://thestar.com.my/metro/story.asp?file...648&sec=central Expensive Meals Info Food prices in ranges Recces (food court) from RM 5 - Rm 7+ Temptations from RM 6 - Rm 12+ Truffles, Tarragon, Thyme (Taylor's fine dining restaurants) Rm 10 per pax "3 course meal" Desert Bar meals RM 8-16+ deserts Rm 3 - Rm 9+ Norwegian Sandwich bar ranges Rm3 - Rm 10 Sisters Crispy Popiah ranges Rm 3 - Rm 9+ Chill Cafe ranges Rm 2 - Rm 8+ When the commercial blocks are ready which is expected by July there will be a food court of about 12 Stalls and other variety of food outlets. Facilities Management will be bringing in more Mobile vendors to increase the variety of Foods available. The Food court is so crowded without any proper ventilation When the building was constructed, the food court (Recces) is only known to be Temporarily. That location is actually for the use other purposes. That is why there's limited food choices and no proper ventilation. Additional fans have been placed too. Why is this a NO Smoking Campus Its is by the Malaysia regulations that ALL campus in Malaysia are a non-smoking campus! If students are found smoking a fine will be imposed stated by the regulations onto the smoker. Hence, there will not be any smoking areas. If students are found smoking, disciplinary action will be taken by the management. FYI: Monash uni have a smoking area because they are international university hence, different from the Malaysia university regulations. Visit us at http://tucsc-lakeside.blogspot.com/ |

QUOTE(ewenkhoo @ May 17 2010, 04:15 PM) hello hikari, Hi ewenkhoo,i've completed my diploma and just got my transcript from inti penang today, and they said they don't convert the results into cgpa, then would i still be eligible to apply for the tertiary merit scholarship?? i am planning to enroll into the UWE international business and marketing this coming july. thank you hikari. Well what you can do is try converting it yourself or something. Or write a letter to INTI explaining your situation.Or you can go to Taylor's and ask their advice on it maybe if Taylor's can provide a letter or something about it to you, that would be the best, because earlier this year when my sister wanted to transfer over to Taylor's after finishing her Diploma in KLIUC, I had to ask a counselor to write a letter to KLIUC requesting for the course syllabus because it's KLIUC's policy not to give the syllabus to students lol I had to go through a lot of trouble since Taylor's had to send the syllabus to UniSA to check for exemptions but the KLIUC registrar won't give my sister the syllabus. ^^" Anyway transferring over from a Diploma, you would have had to ask for your syllabus, letter of completion and all in the first place for Taylor's to check for exemptions from INTI, so if you got those you would already have stuff like credit hours etc that is necessary to calculate CGPA and you can ask the Taylor's counselor to help you with that I think. But I kinda see a problem with you wanting to enroll into the Taylor's-UWE Dual Degree IBM programme. The thing is that is a new programme that just started their first batch of students last February so you coming from a Diploma programme would usually get one year exemptions from the Degree course but the thing is, that programme still has no Second year students. ^^" Their first batch of students haven't even finished their first semester. As far as I know they will only be offering second year subjects next February when this first batch enter their second year. So you might want to discuss this matter with a Taylor's counselor to see what you can do about it.Check for exemptions first and who knows if you did not get exempted from a few first year units than you might be able to join the July intake this year to do those units if you get exempted from all the first year units... you might have to wait until next February if your really interested with the IBM programme. Anyway hope that answered your question. If there's anything that is unclear just ask =) |

QUOTE(ewenkhoo @ May 17 2010, 05:15 PM) omg? hum I can't really say for sure, what I told you was what my deputy dean told somebody who was from a Diploma when she was counseling in the last open day though info now might have changed your best shot is to ask Taylor's directly. They might open a class if there is a high demand of the programme especially from their own Diploma in Business students, but I'm not really sure. and you should check on the exemptions while your at it as well, get your course syllabus from INTI and send it to Taylor's, if they don't open a class for second year students and you don't get exempted from all first year units than you might be able to join the current batch next semester in July but if they don't open a class and you get exemptions for all first year subjects than I don't really see any other option than do a different programme or wait for next year ^^"i have this well planned but i have never thought about this situation. but what about the other students like me(diploma holder) joining in the programme then could they provide a class for those who are going in to the second year?? cause i really do not want to wait until next year. the other time i went to enquire about this programme but they did not tell me anything about these. thank you very much for your replies.
