The bullet is like a symbol. rclxms.gif duno how long it will take to arrive. Calculating on the time zone, mebe this week might b arriving. But duno how long it will take for customs to clear it. doh.gif
Customs Malaysia Tariff Mebe I need to do a printout of this website, computers r non taxable and non sales taxable. brows.gif

I am prepared to self collect at sepang if they do call me. Else I might be calling them once I see the status is arrived at KLIA. thumbup.gif

guys, it will take maybe half a day for Customs to put in their records that your item have arrived. At the end of the day, Pos Malaysia will call you wink.gif

. . Well at least thats my experience heh.
*
Seeing the status change within a day, really hoping it will arrive at malaysia within a day or 2. But according to usps and gentech it might take 3-5 days, then another 2-3 days at customs. This is if there's any delay. brows.gif

Ahh...the thread has fallen silent as Jeffrey and EvilDevil awaits with high anticipation the arrival of their G73JH hehe.

For the new owners or future owners, I found a problem with the upkeep of my laptop. The mesh grill for the speaker area is a magnet for dust/dirt keeping. And it's hell trying to clean them afterwards. I am not so inclined on trying to take it apart yet . . maybe when the dust/dirt becomes too overbearing for my eyes and ears (if they block the speakers) smile.gif

I've also installed Dirt 2  and played a few games. To my surprise . . it actually is smoother than my desktop.

My desktop rig :

Intel C2D E8400
Asus P5KPL-AM
Kingston PC-6400 DDR2-800 *2
Seagate 1TB HDD
Silverstone ST56F
Asus HD4850 512MB

So for now, you could say I am pretty happy camper biggrin.gif
*
Funny thing it seems like either not many owners are takin part in the forums, or too bz playing with their new laptop ? Last week when I went shopping for lappies, one shop at sunway with big big "ASUS" logo and havin all "ASUS" laptops claim the G51J model is selling for RM 7999. Seriously I wonder how much they will sell it locally later once it is official. notworthy.gif The guy offered me another model not sure if it's G72 or N series he mention RM 9999+ and he added, "I think u won't be buying that as well one" sweat.gif Forking out RM 7999 I would rather go for M17X edi,
wub.gif Good news is the G73JH have been shipped out from US, bad news is the M15X I order haven't ship out yet. Hopefully by today they can ship it out as they need further verifications. One is being ship by Fedex another is By USPS. drool.gif I got a feeling USPS might deliver 1st. brows.gif

Btw, G73JH-A2 don't have support for Raid ?

biggrin.gif Indeed, I'm really anxious on getting my Asus G73Jh-A2.

As for the mesh grill above the keyboard, have you tried before to vacuum it using the USB powered vacuum or the ordinary household vacuum? I hate to see if there are a lot of dust stuck inside the mesh grill and the current measurement of getting rid of them which I can think of is the USB powered vacuum. Maybe you can try to use one and tell us the result?  laugh.gif
*
I believe this unit will be dust magnet, need to standby long soft brush, mini vacuum to keep the lappie as good as new.

Do you have any recommendation for the mini vacuum? The mini vacuum is USB powered?
*
Those cheap ones around RM 9.90 or 12.90 or more will do I guess. I got tons of them. brows.gif The suction of the vacuum is not that good but it does it's job well I guess.

I got a list of games wanna try out on the Asus and also will be running on the M15X as well. Actually I believe both might have almost the same size and weight. rclxub.gif Then it will be harder to choose. I guess might be putting either one up for sale then. cry.gif

anyone planning to order G73Jh, hold it first...

they will come equipped with Seagate's latest HDD, Momentus XT, which is a hybrid drive...

on top of the capacity and 32MB cache found in Momentus 7200.4 drives, Momentus XT comes with 4GB read-only NAND chips as well...

brief intro at DailyTech and benchmark at AnandTech

basically, i would put it as eliminating bottleneck (as someone puts it) without cost u an arm and a leg...
*
Price I believe also will go up slightly. sweat.gif

well better than purely SSD... laugh.gif

performance is close to WD VelociRaptor, which is considered very good for laptops...
*
Well it's a hybrid, i believe the hdd will move those files which frequently access to the ssd side, and those not so frequent file to the disc. Performance I expect around 50% - 80% of pure ssd. Maybe more if they can optimize the ssd and disc swapping.

I just got email from Ken Lee @ Gentech PC that they have run out of G73JH-A2. doh.gif

So those who wanna get G73JH can try coralinkz if he still have stock. I will update if other sites have stocks for G73JH. notworthy.gif

hardcore gamer don't even stress about HDD speed. standard speed is fine for them. time-saver freak does.

not like 10krmp/SSD increase your FPS - which main factor for hardcore gamer.

STILL, if you have an extra bucks, its a good upgrade smile.gif
*
Actually having SSD the main benefit is the data won't get lost as compared to disc based hdd. Even hybrid also have the chance of hdd fail due to disc in side the hdd goes bad. Afaik SSD is quite reliable as long as there's no internal problem. Give it a year or 2 definitely ssd will drop even more. Don't forget how much a 500GB 7200rpm 2.5" cost few years back compared to a 40gb or 80gb. Btw the hdd market now is phasing out the older size, 1tb is norm edi for 3.5" while 2.5" they are phasing out those 250gb and below. 320 should be the norm and if not predicted wrongly, 500gb should be the common size and 640gb also would be replacing 500gb soon. 1tb will be the premium item 4 now.

Main concern bout hybrid again would be how efficient the data swap from nand to disc or vice versa if the swapping rate is not fast enough the data flow might be even lower compared to raid 7200rpm setup. A good way to set up these drives is to make it user customisable we can select what type of data to store on the nand and what data to be kept in the disc. drool.gif

Btw not sure if anyone remembers bout the intel turbo memory thingy, it's a 1gb flash memory which can be installed on laptops. Currently my laptop has 1gb of it, 512mb for windows ready boost and 512mb for windows ready drive. With this installed it's quite fast opening firefox, games and stuff. 1st time loading is from the disc, but 2nd or 3rd all are from the flash. Benefits of these technologies usually comes when u access frequently used files. For gamers when gaming big maps if loaded from hdd might be slower compared to flash, but if our memory is at least 4gb or even 8gb then I don't think there's much of a difference. tongue.gif

Well the above statements are my own personal review and also sum info gathered from various sites if needed I could provide the linkies.

regarding the last part, Seagate has spent at least the last 4yrs developing their own algorithm to do that, base on their experience with conventional HDD...

and from the benchmark, it seems that (to me at least) they ve done it pretty well...

unless SSD can drop to at least US$1/GB (even that is still expensive if u ask me), it will still remain as a premium item...
*
Well I'm prepared to pay max RM 500 for ssd, no matter 80gb or 120gb as currently for around RM 450 can get Intel 40GB X25-M SATA but definitely not those 16gb. rclxm9.gif In fact most of my laptop use around 20gb for OS and programs the rests are my games and files. I don't really keep more than 2 games in the hdd as usually I don't get to play even 1 sometimes.

For extra storage I got many external hdd, from 640gb to 1tb for 3.5" and for 2.5" varies from 80gb till 500gb. brows.gif Not sure how others organize their hdd, usually I organize mine almost everyweek, useless files either I move to external or burn to dvd.

Sorry for disturbing but I have a question about the shipping. Does USPS delivery directly to your doorstep or only to KL? If I can't go to KL customs to claim it, can I get the delivery companies to help me deliver it to Perak?
*
USPS is suppose to deliver to the exact address but currently they might hold ur item at customs either at sepang or mebe other places. Then u need to assign pos malaysia or ur courier company to help u declare it out from customs.

well, we dun ve the luxury of 2 HDD bays... thus HHD is the only way without burning a hole in our wallets, while still having large capacity...

basically for the price of ur 40GB SSD, u can grab a Momentus XT 500GB from newegg...
*
Yeah for that price, but the reliability for disc based hdd is questionable, ssd is very rugged as there's no moving parts. And look at the spec of the momentus XT it's only 4GB flash, and performance wise suppose to be 80% according to seagate. If their technology is really that efficient then really worth to consider. drool.gif

Thanks for the reply EvilDevil. But sorry to bother again. How do you assign pos malaysia or other courier company to do that? And by other courier company, we can use back USPS? And is there other charges?
*
Well this i dunno as I haven't get any calls yet. If not mistaken usually they will call up and ask if we wanna assign them to be our agent or not. Then later will collect money or will ask us to bank in i suppose. My usual forwarder will bill us later once they kautim the customs. I think tek got more info as he passed his 1st.

Mebe tomorrow morning I might drop by sepang, not sure what time they will open if they run 24 hours then morning 6am i will be there to collect. drool.gif

EvilDevil . . I would not advice you to head to Pos Malaysia Sepang without a call from them. If they haven't called you up, it prolly means your item has not been processed by them yet. Once it's processed, and they have a reference number, they will call you. Just telling you this so you don't waste your time and petrol driving to Sepang. And since you have that status . . they will call you soon if Customs tahan your laptop . . if not . .then I guess you will receive it by Pos.

USPS only delivers it until Sepang. you will have to understand that USPS stands for United States Postal Service, and thus they do not have door-to-door delivery worldwide heh smile.gif
*
Thanks for the tip bro, actually I just got a call around 11am from Pos Malaysia my item is at customs and gave me a reference no. so now I can head to sepang right ? Wut other items I need to bring along ? notworthy.gif

You only need to bring/remember your reference number and identification. Also bring at least RM18 for the customs form smile.gif
*
Just back from Sepang Pos Office Customs, had to pay RM 18 coz the price is above RM 2000 for them to value the item. I had to open it in front of them to show them it's a laptop. Everyone was looking coz it's damn big. shakehead.gif I told them Alienware M17X is even bigger. icon_idea.gif

Took around 2 hours to return. Now turning on the babe and checking setting up the os. notworthy.gif Thanks tek for info bout the customs, it's slightly troublesome compared to goin to port klang customs for shipping pallets or container. But less sleazy agents around, maybe it's timing as usually at Port Klang customs u can spot those sleazy people everywhere trying to earn quick bucks by tellin us they can handle our cargo and with lower rates. doh.gif

Well just done 3dMark06 got around 12.5k and vantage 8k+ abit. Temps r all below 60 in air con room. GPU got around 70 I think I didn't really log the temps with gpuz. The quality of the product is really good, imagine it went thru the whole throwing, dumping and stuff. The packaging came in double box, the outside is quite ok not much damage internal looks like new fully sealed. rclxms.gif

Not sure wut u guys wanna know bout the laptop, sound is very impressive, same or better than the Acer 6920G i used to own and compare to Dell XPS Studio 16 it's almost same or better. Coz didn't put the Studio XPS 16 and G73Jh side by side compare yet. notworthy.gif

Any questions I will try to answer but too bad stocks are limited now, but I think some other sites start to have them instock. If can get the price below 6k include shipping it's really worth it, I am assuming local will be selling it for more than 7999 as their G51J also asking for that price with a discount of around rm 500 totalling for RM 7499 for a I7, 260GTX is not really worth it mebe unless it's an Alienware. sweat.gif
