Hey Guys!! I just ordered mine yesterday from GentechPC. Anyway , I'm from Kuantan Pahang ,and I choose UPSP as the delivery method.. Btw , will the laptop also stop at the custom in Sepang? Does it mean I have to travel all along Kuantan to Sepang to claim my laptop: cry.gif
*
Since the G73JH comes with a very big box surely customs will stop it. Since ur at Pahang, u need to let Pos Malaysia kautim 4 u. RM 50 I think they will send a form to ur home for u to sign then bank in the money or sumthing. I got my laptop b4 the form came. Usually it's around 2-3 days after the laptop arrive at sepang and stop by customs. Maybe u can try ask the seller to state there big big laptop and include a big big packing list what's inside. Actually I don't trust the people at pos laju coz I lost a few items b4 once they know what's inside. doh.gif

Anyway depends how it goes if ur lucky they won't stop ur item but i think surely stop coz I asked the customs assistant director he say most of the big items surely kena tahan scare smuggle items altho they got x-ray. icon_idea.gif

Hi guys...I am thinking of buying the ASUS G73JH-A1 laptop, in this forum i saw that u can buy online from Xoticpc, provantage n Mucro....so, what is the availability of this model on that website? in Mucro they are saying that "end-May" I've emailed them asking the availability of the model, but have yet to receive an answer...huhuhu...one more thing... as far as I know, buying/importing laptop is tax free.....but now i'm reading here that some forumers had a very very BAD experienced  with our customs..huhuhu.....I am now in doubt...should i buy, or shouldn't buy online.....huhuhuhhu....pls advice...

Well if u check back a few pages I order from GentechPC and got mine less than 1 week. Customs usually not much prob if u collect ur item urself. Usually u can track the progress of ur parcel at usps website once u see it's at sepang or malaysia then next day u will get a call to notify u got a package arrive edi then if kena tahan customs u must authorize pos malaysia to collect it, or u can collect ur self. It might take a few hours to sort out if self collect but definitely safer than letting some monkeys collect on ur behalf and then even opening up ur item. So far I haven't hear any horror stories, but I seen a few agents doin it so imagine ur item open by them if they find it their taste it might go missing. But this is worst case scenario, i believe usually they don't open as pos malaysia wants to earn money also so being an agent they usually dun need to open the parcel edi.

Anyway I would recommend getting from Gentech, if u dun dare I can help u to arrange it, but must pay deposit or sumthing 1st else kinda risky unless u dun mind waiting, coz I usually order the A2 spec instead of A1 coz bluray is useless for me.

Thanks for the info!! rclxms.gif  So , what I can do is ask Ken to State the packing list outside the package? And , is there anyway I can make it directly deliver to my house? Or perhaps , in the pos office in my city? Because i don't think I could travel that far to Sepang for collecting the parcel. Beside that ,  I really dun wanna take the risk to ask the staff there to open up , check and deliver to me. What if my stuff gone missing  cry.gif

Well I believe they already state at the packing list and declare edi. The box is huge, once u see it u will know damn huge that's the reason why my parcel got stopped according to the assistant director of customs. According to him sometimes it's random, if ur lucky u never get stop if ur unlucky ur parcel how big or small also will get stopped. I receive my M15x without problem straight to my home. laugh.gif The box is much smaller compare to the G73JH.

thanx bro....i've already check the site...might be buying from there..we'll see... anyways, one of my fren said, that the LAPTOP is tax free...BUT the WiFi that comes with the laptop MUST have AP.....I dunno how true is this.. I've ask my fren to give details...he'll revert back to me on that....
*
If u wanna talk bout wifi, communications, bagpack, sure will get tax. But since it's a whole package for your computer aka laptop, it should not be taxed. U can check the rate at the customs website. Tariff For Malaysian Customs

If u know how to answer usually no tax, but if u r too smart go tellin them got back, got wifi or communication device then surely will kena tax. I brought in many pc stuff b4, unless u r too smart tellin them bout it usually they assume it's a package thus no prob. Do note if they wanna tax ur bag I remember it's 5% import tax and 10% duty. But dunno why the day I was there a lady got tax 20% duty and 10% import tax. Her LV bag bought online cheap also no use edi. cry.gif

sweat.gif Any news bout your laptop ? Hope u can get it soon. Else like what I said try to get the Malaysian embassy to help u sort it out as your a student studying there or maybe your college. Usually if ur college or uni can talk on your behalf it might be better as german talking to germans should be better and friendlier.

rclxms.gif Actually it's true for the same spec, size and quality sager, alienware, msi also cannot fight. Too bad the 2 hdd cannot run raid. cry.gif Now i'm using the M15x the size is smaller but weight is same as G73JH shakehead.gif .

thanx man....I'll take up your offer on that...next month I'll be buying it for sure....now I'm still not back in Malaysia...huhuhuhuhu...

Added on June 8, 2010, 11:32 pmbut Jeffry1987, does GentechPc has ready stock available? so far Xotic back order have to wait for 6to8 weeks or more (not including shipping time), same as Provantage, Mucro no reply(huhuhuuhu)..Amazon has ready stock, but price is higher than fore mentioned e-sellers...so the best choice here IS GenTechPC, provided they can surely deliver in a few weeks times....( I dun have the patience to wait) huhuhuhuhuhuhu...After careful considerations (and alot of "racun"..biggrin.gif) I will by this model next month....thats why I'm researching now for the best priced, reliable seller, etc.... hehehe... btw this IS the first time I'll be buying anything from the net......huhuhu

I got my G73JH-A2 from gentech in less than 6 days. I order on Friday, got it on Thursday. The laptop arrive at Sepang on wednesday night, I can track the whole progress at USPS website. On thursday morning I got a call from pos malaysia saying my laptop is held at customs they ask if I wanna appoint them as my agent to collect or I self collect of course I opt to collect myself so around 1pm I reach sepang at about 1pm+ I edi got the lappy but took around 1 hour + to settle the whole ordeal in fact when I got the release letter only the assistant director of customs told me I don't need to get the release letter as it's a laptop. rclxub.gif Mebe he hint sumthing else I really dunno but had to pay RM 18 to get the release form. Anyway the whole ordeal is a very good experience so next time if I order again I won't have probs. thumbup.gif
Btw I also would recommend Gentech PC and to get assistance from Ken Lee he is a great guy even reply pm and emails after working hours. As for the G73JH stocks he assure me he would be getting new stocks soon I guess it's around mid of this month or so and must order fast. icon_idea.gif

ok..roger that......care to share ur experience? becoz last time i went to the Sepang Customs to take some documents (in which i dunno why my company didn't sent thro' DHL, UPS, etc) i got some bad experience...1st, i had to take a pass at one of the guard office...when reaching there, i was denied acces just becoz i am not wearing a collared shirt (wtf! how should i know the dress code or wuteva...) but after some explaining and a little bit of begging...ok..i can take my pass...but then i need some kind of letter from company, saying that THE PACKAGE is for me....ok after a few calls company fax the letter direct to the office..then i have to pay rm5 for the pass....huhuhu then got the pass...got thro the gate...got lost inside...huhuhhuhu....then reached the counter for retrieving my documents, got to pay rm30 for processing.....huhuhuhu.......btw this customs place that i mentioned is the one near LCCT terminal...izzit THAT same place where you collect your laptop??

Added on June 9, 2010, 2:29 amand....btw... when u ordered from GentechPc, how much was the shipping charges?
*
Well my advice is when goin to goverment or companies please wear smart dun wear singlet and bermudas sure those ppl will look down on u and treat u like beggar. If ur collecting an item on behalf of company or another person u need the proper papers and company chop. I collect my own item so just need my ic to see the name and they allow me to take my item edi. At the guard post there if u look like ah beng or ah seng, (no pun intended) the guards aka police officers won't let u in as they assume ur not on official business. I believe even ourselves won't talk with customers if they don't wear up to standard and bring proper documents right ?

Anyway the only complain I have is the pos malaysia counter 3 ladies there but only one working the other 2 is just there to talk and complain. shakehead.gif I had my laptop with me less than 10 minutes i'm in the pos malaysia customs counter then took almost 1 hour waiting for the pos malaysia counter to issue me the declare form. Then straight to the counter to pass up the form and collect the approval papers and out I go. thumbup.gif

The charges for USPS is 149 and fedex or ups or dhl is 332.xx. Usps is quite fast, 6 days upon collection I believe if they sent out on monday maybe friday or thursday can get edi coz my item is sent out on friday and arrive on wednesday night. I went to collect it on Thursday. laugh.gif

are the power adapter can me use in MALAYSIA ??
my relative say the power adapter is not for malaysia 230
SHE WROTE me this (( remember wor...volt 110 to 220 must use converter to charge ))
*
110V-220V means the adapter can use from 110V for US and also 220V for us Malaysia and UK. If u see 110-220 means it's compatible no need step down or step up converter. If u see an adapter only got 110V then u need a converter. So far 110-220 I go everywhere also can use just need the UK plug coz the original plug is US style.

Actually with a cooler pad it does help as the bottom of the laptop got venting hole, maybe getting a sucking instread of blowing, coz the bottom got the rams, hdd and gpu. I didn't really see a big difference with and without max also 5'c. The place the laptop gets air is below the lcd hinge according to nbr reports. But one thing to note is the gpu temp for my g73jh is max 93'c while the m15x with 260gtx max is 90'c. Btw I just got the orion backpack rclxms.gif

Hello guys, eventually I have successfully claimed/ cleared my Asus G73Jh-A2 from the Germany local customs.  rclxm9.gif Super excited now!

First and foremost, I did an unboxing video for my notebook and I will try my best to upload it to YouTube in these 2 days as there are many assignments are waiting for me at the study table now.  biggrin.gif

First impression of this notebook? Ultimate content for its physical looks especially the rubberized and matte black finish of this notebook. It was extremely gorgeous no matter from outside or inside of this "beast". The only "little let down" is the size which is a little bit big for me but it is still fine enough for me.  laugh.gif

First step after booting up the Windows is creating the recovery disc via "Ai Recovery Burner". It required 6 blank DVD+/-R disc. It took me some time for creating these recovery disc.  sweat.gif

That's all for the time being. I will update you guys with more "steps" to go. Asus Go, Jeffrey Go . . .  thumbup.gif

Gratz bro alas u get ur babe edi. Hope u can test it out properly and later if needed upgrade to the 209 bios. I kinda miss it but the size is really huge. Kinda waste as I couldn't see if it could fit the Alienware Orion backpack or not. Just got the backpacks today. rclxm9.gif

Nope, it will definitely not disturbing the cooling system of the notebook. I have double checked this matter with the NBR's Asus G73Jh members and they also told me that there are no any cooling mechanism under the keyboard as some of the discussion members have verified it via disassembling it. It was a misunderstanding at the 1st place.  laugh.gif

They told me that there are some air intakes from the mesh above the keyboard but I'm not so sure about this.  hmm.gif
*
Actually the intake is right below the lcd if u remove the lcd u can see the 2 intakes. Actually comparing both the G73JH and M15x their cooling system is both very good. Just the G73JH if they took the intake from bottom it might be better for those with cooler pads. The rumour bout the keyboard intake i think is not correct coz some one used smoke test to confirm the intake is just below the lcd. I check the service manual and it seems like it's below the lcd and around the speaker mesh. laugh.gif

Hrmm..if u were to remove your keyboard protector after maybe an hour usage . . I am quite sure you will feel hot air coming from the keyboard. Or . . maybe that's just me lol smile.gif
*
blink.gif I whack on a keyboard protector since day 1, even the M15x I also whack one since day 1. My room got lots of dust and hair due to my pet. I rather the dust stick on the protector instead inside of the keyboard. I cleared those stuff on my older laptop which is a hp I almost got shocked of the dusts and fur collected inside. Since it's a black laptop it never seem to me that it might have been that much. rclxub.gif

Affirmative! I'm totally agree with you regarding on the dust. I'm rather cleaning up the dust collected on the keyboard protector than the one which fall inside the keyboard. Super hard to remove. Before this, I have tried to use the Cyber Clean cleaning compound on my previous notebook but it seemed like it was not that effective enough.  smile.gif

However, most of the Asus G73Jh users out there were worried about the cooling system of this machine will be affected by this keyboard protector.  biggrin.gif
*
The CPU temps r quite good just the gpu is quite high for mine. Max hit around 93 but this is running furmark extreme burning. Other games max also 8x only also the 93'c is without aircon and cooler pad. Eversince I use cooler pad and in aircon room it never go above 87'c . thumbup.gif

QUOTE(profmka @ Jun 12 2010, 12:57 AM)
Hi everyone, been following not only this thread, but also several others regarding the same laptop, and i just wanna share my two cents.

I bought mine from eBay, seller was PortableOne, and was quite satisfied initially, except for a teeny dead pixel in the bottom right(in spite of their $45 all-round laptop check prior shipping). Price: er, well, better than our local offerings(at the time of purchase). my own personal opinion: get yours from the US, we have the stronger currency, singapore is the poorer choice imho. the thing arrived late May. Customs didn't bother me at all..no trips to Sepang etc. item sent straight to my front door.

My g73 is A2, with 1TB HDD and 8gb ram.

1. The video drivers are very tricky to update, for most laptops, using ATI 10.4 and above will crash every few minutes into a game. two solutions at hand: a) updating the videocard BIOS with a clevo/MSI/third-party one, risking a 'bricked' vcard, or b)updating to Asus' 10.1 drivers(not the latest by ATI though). I did the former, which disabled the HDMI and VGA(until the next legit vbios comes along).
2. for some, the main mother bios itself might be problematic(missing keyboard strokes anyone?), fortunately, a legit Asus update (BIOS 209) is already out. those of us who used bios 206 will experience disabled keyboard lights and a PowerPlay glitch which still maintains the underclock once you switch battery>plug. I upped mine with a 209 beta from a German asus site, too lazy to reupdate.
3.Only once i've browsed through the complaint sites do i realize, Asus software support is really poor...and there are many who RMA'd faulty g73jh units back, and of those who did RMA, some had to return their units twice(three times too!)..all i can say is, open your package with bated breath, friend.

The good aspects?

1.Most games are at least playable at 1920x1080.
2.Personally i like the radical design.

In spite of all that, I definitely enjoyed my new laptop(probably my last one - my pa is especially frustrated with me wasting my money on every curious gadget i come across), and hope you guys do as well. happy gaming!
*
Actually I would suggest most buyers to avoid paying anything for their service like to create restortion disc, upgrade memory from 1066 to 1333, checking the laptop and so on. Most of the time the seller don't do much just whack in the box, duplicate their pre burn disc, send out the laptop and that's it. 1066 is already not being used in current batch of G73JH. Most of the people paying for the upgrade is just wasting their money. sweat.gif

I did encounter same issue as u, gsod n stuff once I upgrade to 10.5 drivers. But once i revert back I don't encounter probs edi. It's a known issue with ATI graphics card since the desktop version. If ur not the type of people who do mission critical 3d rendering or stuff then it should be ok, else like me, might be using another laptop for main while waiting for Asus to fix up their bugs.

well, i share some photo of internal G73JH-A1 and the GC between the M17x and G73JH
*
From the pics the G73JH should be more stable and better in controling voltage and heat, but some how mine not really that good. Anyway I think maybe Asus is tryin to figure out a better heat management. I still don't like their vbios can't make the gpu 300 and memory 500 and must use ati clock software to do it. I got used to it but if other users I don't think they can get used to it. The M15x can downclock without problem currently the 260gtx can run gpu 200 and memory 120 temps only around 40-42 the Asus 5870 after I downclock gets around 53-55 rclxms.gif Lets give Asus some time hope they can fix their bugs soon. rclxm9.gif

I think the G53 would be perfect for those who doesn't wanna go through the trouble of getting familiar with a HUGE laptop smile.gif It was quite a shock for me at first when I received my G73, but I am pretty used to it now. smile.gif

After comparing the G73JH and M15x I feel both is about the same weight just the size slightly diff abit around few inches bigger only. If want spec G73JH is best, if want looks and size maybe M15x is better. Both also good laptop thumbup.gif

M17x definitely out of the question.

* Currently busy spending my summer holiday at Nizza, Monaco and other small villages at France. No time for testing games. -.-
*
I think DMC4 street fighter 4, RE5 or any capcom games are very light on the gpu, easily able to run full hd and max detail but no aa. Metro 2003 I can only run at 1600X900 coz they auto run aa maybe if manually turn off aa then can run at full hd. drool.gif

So far u guys have no prob with the gsod right ? Btw Cat 10.6 came out edi duno how is the performance. brows.gif

I've just completed my order for my Asus G73JH-A1 with GenTech PC. Ken Lee was really helpful when I called him. I will keep you all posted on their service & the moment my laptop arrives. Here is some useful information for would be future buyers:

1.) Payment is not difficult for Wire Transfer through our local banks. You don't even need an account with the bank. Go to the customer service counter, let them know you want to wire transfer/TT to US and they will give you a form to fill up.

2.) I did my payment through Maybank and I do not have a personal account there.

3.) Maybank service charge is RM 25 on top of the amount you will be sending. Gentech will add USD 30 to your total for their bank fees in the US. Maybank has the cheapest service charge compared to three other banks in my area. (Hong Leong, CIMB & Public Bank). CIMB has the worst TT rates.

4.) I got a surprise free gift from Maybank for using their services. To be honest I did not expect anything after the transaction. Must be my lucky day biggrin.gif  rclxm9.gif

I read through the entire Thread from beginning to end before deciding to purchase this notebook. You can find all the information you need from the helpful members to assist you in purchasing this laptop online. A special Thank You to EvilDevil118 for letting me know the location of Pos Laju at LCCT if my laptop is held by customs for inspection. I'm hoping it would not be held and the laptop would be delivered to my doorstep  tongue.gif

notworthy.gif Hope u get ur lappie soon, don't worry bout the customs, they are quite friendly as long as u go in proper attire. I guess if we go looking like samseng they would be treating us like one I guess. sweat.gif

I guess the A1 and A2 is in stock so future buyers can consider bout it. As for me, after few weeks using M15x I think I would prefer this more than the G73JH coz of the size. Actually both don't really feel that much of a different in terms of weight just size slightly bigger. Maybe I will get another G73JH if I manage to sell the M15x this week. rolleyes.gif

Actually peeps from Asus did comment bout this, their answer is that their warranty for their own local unit is better so called vip service. shakehead.gif My unit got worldwide international warranty. And last I heard it's at Ipoh now. icon_idea.gif
I am still tempted in getting back the G73JH but since the M15X is serving me well I am spendin most of my time tweaking my desktop.

Good to hear  wink.gif Thanks for the information too, this just confirms that most G73JH has the GSOD problem. Going to re-paste my GPU once my TIM arrives & hopefully it will resolve some of the problems  biggrin.gif

Hmmm the gsob is still stuck with G73 even with Cat107 ? rclxub.gif If revert to ori drivers everything is fine afaik. The real problem is with the ati gpu, it seems the core is not being powered up properly or sumthing, u guys can try to warm up ur gpu then play game sure no prob one. But if u suddenly play hard 3d games it will gsod or bsod. Somehow the gpu needs to warm up to a certain temp then only it will run smoothly.

thumbup.gif I still miss my g73jh-a2 cry.gif
