from Pratunam to Chatucak, take taxi only around 80baht, will u still take BTS n then need to change to Mrt in order to reach Chatucak? unless u r alone, if not i dun see any point not to take taxi. unless u really want to save 2-3 ringgits for the journey.

normally i will go to JJ at 10am(thai) from Pratunam, dun worry no traffic jam at all (as i already went there for 7-8 times).

for the past 8 times in BKK, i also stayed in Pratunam, so all of u can ask me the average taxi fare to certain locations, i will tell u all my average taxi fare.

p/s: dun mislead other when u r not very familiar with the situation, especially teaching ppl using those stupid way.........no offence....hehehe

thanks for your info.

i'd finally made the decision to stay at pratunam area. I'll reach BKK around 9.30am (saturday) and i also plan to go straight to JJ market once i reach the hotel and unloaded my stuff. I'll be going with my bf, so i guess it would be easier for us to use the taxi to go JJ market on that day since it's only 80Bth. At nite probably we will go chinatown in group of 5.. can we sqeeze in a taxi and how much is the rate from pratunam area to chinatown?

Well, it is not stupid at all to use taxi to go anywhere u want in BKK. can even book a limo or taxi to go around and wait for you. Budget travellers like love to venture n walk a lot and use cheapest mean to travel around. even RM 1 - RM2 mean a lot to some. Cos if u r there a few days, probably save RM10 - RM20... which could mean a lot budget travellers.

BTW, I guess Stimix has clarified that BTS nearby Pratunam to JJ can go direct. no need change

yes, u can squeeze 5 into 1 taxi.

from pratunam to china town, will cost u around 80 to 100 bahts with light traffic, heavy traffic will set u back around 120bahts. insist all the taxi to use meter, if they refuse, just walk away n look for another one, dun wory, in BKK, there r plenty of taxis......

U mean branded Fakey.Well is too obvious to bring in that many. If it just a wallet or wristlet I guess u can still put them in the luggage somewhere. But if it is too big, obviously u r attracting the attention of the custom and trade dept.If it it brandless than they dun kacau that much..perhaps tax u.

Just a heads up to people who are heading to BKK within the week.

The red shirts are kinda protesting on the same street as central world. So some shops and malls nearby are closed down. Big C and gaysorn was closed for a lil bit over the weekend, not sure if they are back open though.

And avoid wearing red and yellow shirts/tops!

Reached Silom (banned area) today. Does anyone know -- if roads blocked, taxi to which station can get into Silom/Saladaeng from airport via the BTS/Metro ?

Huh?

Just get to any station and from there get to the destination station.

For BTS its Silom station while MRT is Saladaeng.

Thai PM declares state of emergency in Bangkok

BANGKOK (AP) - Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has declared a state of emergency in the Bangkok area to give the army broad powers to gain control of spiraling street protests.

Abhisit's Wednesday televised announcement came after protesters broke into Parliament and senior government officials were evacuated by helicopter. Some lawmakers scaled the compound walls to escape.

A state of emergency empowers the military to restore order and allows authorities to suspend certain civil liberties and ban all public gatherings of more than five people.

Protesters are demanding that Abhisit dissolve Parliament and call new elections.

They have been camped in Bangkok since March 12 and have ignored all other decrees for them to stop protests.
Take care hor for those going to BKK icon_rolleyes.gif
