actually i visit BKK at least twice a year.
if 2 of u going around in the city, it is very cheap to use a taxi (insist to use meter, if they refuse, just look for another one, there r plenty of taxi in BKK, dun wory).
i always stay in Pratunam area, from my hotel to Suanlum nite mkt, only costs around 50bahts +- for taxi one way. if go to chatuchak, it will cost less than 100bahts. if go to china town also less than 100 bahts, if traffic jam, maybe extra for 20-30bahts, so what is the point to use skytrain or mrt, unless ur budget is really tight.

QUOTE(patapon-pon @ Mar 2 2010, 02:33 AM) im planning to go bangkok in May..already bought the ticket and all but didnt quite settle with the hotel. since my partner and i are going for a shopping trip , we will mostly linger around pratunam area which i heard a paradise for wholesale stuff. any good and cheap hotel u would recommend in that area? probably ones near the shopping area. is Citin Pratunam any good? thaks in advance~ what is ur budget for the hotel? citin pratunam is a new hotel, worth to stay, but r u familiar with pratunam area? if not, most of the taxi driver wont know the exact location of this hotel, u have to guide them to the hotel when u reach pratunam. if money is not an issue , then amari watergate is a good choice. RM350-400/nite

QUOTE(patapon-pon @ Mar 2 2010, 10:54 PM) well apparently money is the issue here and RM400 per nite is quite expensive for us. any other hotel u would recommend other than citin pratunam? a cheap one and near shopping area. then Baiyoke Boutique hotel is more suitable for u in term of location n price. it located just behind the Baiyoke Sky (the highest hotel in SEA), so even the most stupid taxi driver will know where is it.....hahahah. Rm150/nite+- depend on the season.

QUOTE(Fatz_Cat @ Mar 16 2010, 08:07 AM) thanks for the info....for platinum mall, which hotel is the nearest and around RM100-200 per night? and the platinum mall operating hours is from wat time till wat time? i'm so excited to go la.....just crossing my fingers that nothing bad will happen before and during my trip p/s: u take ur wholesale from that area also???...can let me know how much roughly the clothing cost there compare to our malaysia's jalan kenanga? if u want to stay at pratunam area, Baiyoke Suit is the nearest n within your range of RM100-200. Citin Pratunam hotel also within the range, but just that if u r not very familiar with that area, there will be problem when u try to tell the taxi driver.

QUOTE(jayelleenelial @ Mar 19 2010, 10:17 PM) i love bangkok so much! i went in october last year, straight away come home and book ticket for April. T_T...which is this coming 2nd April. I hope no issues lah. How to convince my dad that it is totally fine?! My airfare was super cheap, both ways inclusive of tax was about RM150 and hotel is RM138 per night. I am going to be there for four nights so I'm paying about RM230 for my entire lodging! Damn good deal laaaaaa... and now the protests. Haih. I'm also looking forward to the hotel!! Damn nice right!! It's called Budacco! mind to share how do u calculate for ur entire lodging, RM230 4nites? This post has been edited by andrewlim8: Mar 20 2010, 12:23 PM

yes, baiyoke suit is just 200-300m nearer than Budacco if walking to Platinum mall. outside of Budacco, there r plenty of hawker food n 7-11, so u need not worry of difficulty of finding food.
i always think that it's no point to take skytrain or bts in bangkok, as the taxi fare is very cheap, most of the destinations in town will cost u less than 100bahts. let said, from Budacco to Chatuchak mkt, costs around 90-100bahts, to Suan Lum nite mkt costs around 50-60bahts, to China town (traffic is bad , most of the time) but still costs around 80-120bahts. unless u r travelling alone, if 2 of u or more, it is more practical to take taxi rather than those skytrain. u have to insist the taxi driver to use meter, if they refuse, just look for another one, dun worry, 1 out of three taxi will normally use meter.

QUOTE(yukisee @ Mar 22 2010, 01:04 PM) Ohh.. mean that baiyoke suite is just nearer than budacco abit.. so budacco is walking distance to platinum, pratunam area.. how about siam paragon etc it all depends on how physically fit u r ! i can walk from MBK to Baiyoke, which is roughly 4-5km (self estimation). if walk from Budacco to Platinum Mall, is roughly less than 1km, u wont feel boring when u r walking to PM, as along the road, is full of shops n stores.

QUOTE(cy97 @ Mar 22 2010, 10:18 PM) the chicken rice which u mentioned is not the famous one, as the real famous chicken rice shop doesn't sell meat stick(satay) which is same roll as your chicken rice but further down. taxi fare in BKK is damn cheap, what is the point to take BTS?

QUOTE(DrezzUp @ Mar 25 2010, 01:52 PM) There r 2 services is either BTS (Skytrain) or MRTA underground train in BKK city. within d vicinity of pratunam no BTS or MRTA. D nearest SIAM or Chidlom BTS station. From tis station take a ride to Asoke station then change to MRTA Sukhumvit to take you Kamphaeng Phet.U exit from tis station it is already the JJ mkt. from Pratunam to Chatucak, take taxi only around 80baht, will u still take BTS n then need to change to Mrt in order to reach Chatucak? unless u r alone, if not i dun see any point not to take taxi. unless u really want to save 2-3 ringgits for the journey. normally i will go to JJ at 10am(thai) from Pratunam, dun worry no traffic jam at all (as i already went there for 7-8 times). for the past 8 times in BKK, i also stayed in Pratunam, so all of u can ask me the average taxi fare to certain locations, i will tell u all my average taxi fare. p/s: dun mislead other when u r not very familiar with the situation, especially teaching ppl using those stupid way.........no offence....hehehe This post has been edited by andrewlim8: Apr 2 2010, 11:52 AM

QUOTE(anilin @ Apr 2 2010, 05:08 PM) thanks for your info. i'd finally made the decision to stay at pratunam area. I'll reach BKK around 9.30am (saturday) and i also plan to go straight to JJ market once i reach the hotel and unloaded my stuff. I'll be going with my bf, so i guess it would be easier for us to use the taxi to go JJ market on that day since it's only 80Bth. At nite probably we will go chinatown in group of 5.. can we sqeeze in a taxi and how much is the rate from pratunam area to chinatown? yes, u can squeeze 5 into 1 taxi. from pratunam to china town, will cost u around 80 to 100 bahts with light traffic, heavy traffic will set u back around 120bahts. insist all the taxi to use meter, if they refuse, just walk away n look for another one, dun wory, in BKK, there r plenty of taxis......
