Yes sawadee is the best hotel booking webiste so far for me..Responded wiyhin hours! Very helpful..My best reservation site so far..esp to Thailand

Added on February 20, 2010, 3:06 pmOK also if you can get the them to use meter..Anyway the rate is more expensive than KL actually..Per entry is 35bath (RM3.70) & thereafter ~ 4.5bath per 200m?...comapre to KL at RM2 per entry & RM0.20 per 200m thereafter...Malaysia taxi using cheaper fuel mah.. but not easy to get the taxi wanting to use meter hor
*
Sorry, but your comment on the taxi rates is wrong. KL taxis are WAY WAY WAY more expensive compared to thailand's.

The initial rate, yes its more expensive, Rm3.50 to KL's rm3. But the on going rate is much slower and cheaper then KL's which keeps going off and up. Hartamas to KL sentral is already rm12 -__- When it used to be rm7.

Plus, I've gotten cheated less in BKK then when I'm back in KL.

Just a quick reminder to everyone. Try not to wear shirts that are yellow or red.

Due to the.. political instability here.

Though its actually okay to wear them, but better to be safe then worry ^^

Thats because you were looking at all the wrong places to buy cheap and gooding clothes in thailand.  laugh.gif

Just as happy4ever mentioned. I'm rather surprised to hear a woman say that clothes in Thailand are not cheaper then Malaysia!

From what I've seen (from following friends shopping of course, cross dressing ain't my forte!), clothes are generally cheaper overall.

But not to say everything is cheap there. Things like some electronics are a lil more expensive.

The express train project to Airport had been suspended for many years already. I heard from taxi driver it is due to corruption by current government ??? Any way taxi is always the first choice in Bangkok, reasonable price and reliable. rclxms.gif  rclxms.gif  rclxms.gif
*
Almost spot on. The govt wants more incentives and involvement with the train system. But the company running it isn't happy with it and would like more control over it. The train system is actually ready to use.

Toll is 25 baht then 45 baht on the 2nd toll. That is if you are going from the airport into the city.

anyone know where to buy cheap and good quality suits in BKK?
*
There are many tailors around the city. You'll find quite a few at MBK. Mostly middle eastern tailors though. The last time I did mine there was bout 200USD for 2 sets of suits including pants.

Takes a day only too. Though I told them to spend a bit more time then to rush it tongue.gif

Just a heads up to people who are heading to BKK within the week.

The red shirts are kinda protesting on the same street as central world. So some shops and malls nearby are closed down. Big C and gaysorn was closed for a lil bit over the weekend, not sure if they are back open though.

And avoid wearing red and yellow shirts/tops!

Reached Silom (banned area) today.  Does anyone know -- if roads blocked, taxi to which station can get into Silom/Saladaeng from airport via the BTS/Metro ?

*
Huh?

Just get to any station and from there get to the destination station.

For BTS its Silom station while MRT is Saladaeng.

The train systems are back up. Cept for some stations at the hotspots.

Paragon is supposedly open until further notice. Went to emporium today and its fine there, pretty far from any protests.

The situation in BKK isn't as bad as people think (especially for tourists). Always remember the media always hype things up and only a small section is closed off for your shopping/touristy needs.

Theres more to BKK then just a street.

Just avoid big groups and wearing red or yellow shirts and you are fine.

Just a warning to those thats in BKK right now. Basically I live at the ratchaprasong district, where the protests is going on right now. The govt as of today at 6pm has blocked off all access to the area.

I've already heard and sounded like (was also reported/rumored but unconfirmed yet) gunshots and explosions. So please stay away from the area.

Stay away from crowds. And don't go near anyone wearing red shirts.

Heading back to KL tomorrow. Been here for the last 3 weeks and staying like 3 mins away from the rally sites. BKK is back to normal now. And the only big mall that got burnt and is inaccessible is centralworld. Other malls are fine. Other stuff that got burnt were small shops and some banks.

Nothing to worry bout really.

Hahaha, will be heading back to BKK in 2 days myself.

I've seen it. Its hmm.... its mostly bout thai history. And the stage and props are pretty impressive - I watch quite a bit of live theaters myself too. Depends on the individual I suppose, I fairly enjoyed myself enough.

I think it was bout rm100ish per person. Friends got the ticket online from their website.

If no one has posted bout it yet. The airport train is up and running now. Currently it only costs like 15 baht (Rm1.50) and it stops at BTS stations. Pretty good for those on a budget or accomodations near a BTS station.

hey guys, i've been reading this thread for quite sometime, and I will be going bangkok somewhere end of this year

just a question, is it safe to rent a bike and ride around the city?
*
Did that some years back. If you keep to your side of the road and pavewalks, then yeah. Its kinda like riding in KL but a lil... messier tongue.gif

What do they have in the Lumpini night market bordering Rama 4 road? I am quite familiar with street shopping but have never tried that one.

Hmm, lotsa small shops, local artists selling/displaying their works. Food. More small shops and more food tongue.gif

Think of it as a small chatuchak thats at night only!
