Hi all,

Just to ask, regards to ps3 problems.

Recently, while playing or watching movies via ps3, my screen will go black for few seconds and resumed back to normal. The ps3 is working fine, whereas the games continue as usual,... kinda strange. It happens quite often now...

Any idea what`s the reason? Hdmi cable? Overheat? Or ps3 updates??

Thanx

Regarding your problem , I myself have experienced it before too. The problem was fixed after i replaced my HDMI cable . But before doing that, i would suggest you to plug the HDMI cable into another port on the TV /monitor? It might be loose too. Try that and see if it works smile.gif

Does anyone here have problems with their Phat PS3 fan going into fullspeed? ( sounds like jet-engine )

I've had the problem .. so i thought , Before risking a YLOD by ignoring the loud fan.. I should open it up and clean it clean..

I did exactly that, cleaning the whole ps3 and replacing the stock thermal grease ( which was not crusty, but looks bad )

I replaced it with Tuniq TX-3 thermal compound .

After that , my Phat 40gb ps3 has never made any jet-engine noise since ( touchwood ) biggrin.gif . Though , i'm beginning to wonder if I might have damaged the temperature sensor for the fan to adjust its speed ... hmm.gif

I played MAG about 6 hours with no loud fan noise compared to last time where it goes fullspeed after 20 minutes.

Recommended to those who want to prevent YLOD for PHAT PS3 , Better to be safe than sorry aye? whistling.gif

Here are some photos taken .

Attached Image A little crusty.
Attached Image Stock thermal paste cleaned using Isopropyl wipes
Attached Image Notice the HUGE fan and heatsinks . shocking.gif

thanx bro,

basically i believe it is something to do with loose cable..
it happens only during games or movie..
but then again, i suspect something else..

i reboot the configuration, and presently hoping that nothing else happens. or the same thing at least.

ok. there are three possibilities.

1. most popular [busted HDMI cable]
try to switch to another cable. usually this is the problem.

2. going to be busted HDMI port for TV or PS3.
try on another tv or test the cable on another PS3.

3 . electricity being sucked on another home appliance. (happened to my friend.)
ok, as we know, appliance such as refrigerators suck a huge amount of our power. sometimes, it goes to 'sleep' mode because the temperature inside it is already cold. once needed, the machine will auto kick back to suck up the electricity (listen to its humming sound) my friend had the same problem, so I went to his house to check what happened. i noticed once the thing sucks the electricity, the ps3's display will be affected (the lcd turns blank but game or video stays normal) no other choice, either you move house OR dedicate a plug (usually PS3 on power sharing with other appliance is affected ) solely for PS3. i referred this case to one of my colleagues here and he said its actually a good thing, means the ps3 is well aware of the surge thus its adjusting itself to the new electricity priority, hence the intermittent lost of display.
