Little something from Qing Ming.
![]() f/5.6, 1/100, ISO 200, 55mm This uncle plays the violin during every Qing Ming. I guess his parents enjoyed listening to him play the violin. I guess I could've done a better job with the background, like wait till the person behind leaves. |

QUOTE(travis_ckf @ Apr 6 2010, 01:55 PM) My intention of taking the previous shot that close was to show the facial expression of the uncle. I think that didn't work out as intended...I happen to have one that's taken a bit further. This was cropped to remove distractions. Did not select this one coz scared it might be a taboo to take a pic of other ppl's tombstone or something (i'm a noob in these chinese taboo stuff). ![]() f/5.6, 1/125, ISO 200, 55mm Haha sorry for making this a 'critique and improve my shot' post. Thanks for the pointers, travis_ckf!
Wow, any tips about taking sunset pics? I tried my hand at that and it was horrible: ![]() f/36, 1/15, ISO 100, 55mm, cropped ![]() f/5.6, 1/15, ISO 100, 55mm, cropped Were sunset shots supposed to be silhouettes? I either over expose the sky, or underexpose the foreground. Where should I focus on? The clouds? The foreground? Camera was struggling to focus on anything. EDIT: chose a smaller resize to cheat on the lack of objects in focus. This post has been edited by DJFoo000: Apr 6 2010, 08:03 PM |

QUOTE(travis_ckf @ Apr 11 2010, 11:28 PM) Increase ur shutter speed n appeture then u can get a sharper car. Ur subject is not sharp enough, but good concept. U wont able to get the Honda word sharp when u pan ur subject though. Yeah the Honda word was a coincidence. Realised it in PP and thought it was a dime shot. It was raining so the cars weren't going very fast. I thought if my shutter speed too fast the background will be frozen as well? I was planning to pull it down to 1/20 the next time I try panning shots. Wrong concept? Was on shutter priority though so aperture was out of my control. Was on kit lens @ 55mm and the road was quite far (cropped a lot). Is the lack of sharpness of the car due to the ISO-640 (was on auto ISO though)?Next time I do panning am gonna plan do ISO 200-400, 1/20, Tv mode. Any advices? thanks travis_ckf! All tips noted (literally). Gotta say panning is a lot easier with a DSLR than a PnS.

that figurine thing, DannyChoo's been doing that for ages. Not something weird IMO. Kinda cool, in fact. But he does brings it to different and interesting places. Might wanna emulate that.

Jealous everyone taking nice sunset pics. Only to realise post processing played such an important role.
#1 ![]() f/8, 1/250, ISO 400, 34mm, PP-ed #2 ![]() f/8, 1/320, ISO 400, 35mm, PP-ed Does it look nicer with a 'cooler' WB (#1), or a 'warmer' WB(#2)? Is it overcooked? I dunno how to compose a sunset shot. Any inputs? This post has been edited by DJFoo000: Apr 19 2010, 09:47 PM |

lol. It's shot with an auto rig, sort of. I rigged my camera on the outside of the car and took a shot while the car is moving. Saw this on a forum somewhere else.
OH YES! That's the prob: composition! It's rigged rigid and I was hoping to get some insights from those who did it before. This post has been edited by DJFoo000: Apr 21 2010, 10:15 PM |

QUOTE(achew @ Apr 22 2010, 12:24 AM) guess not alot ppl tried coz need to have the rig...anyway..i have something a lil bit similar to urs..lol.. Definitely the look I'm looking for. It's with a rig too, right? I am horrified by the need to photoshop with that kind of mounting (where the pole is visible). no no. You can build it by yourselves with your creativity. The ones as suggested by the pros (Here) are ones that involve industry grade suction cups or magnets, aluminum tubing and a ball head. The one I built is a normal paint extender tube thing with my tripod head attached. It goes through my rear windows. Pole secured with the read seat belts.
Pics here Am gonna find different ways to install my rig. This post has been edited by DJFoo000: Apr 22 2010, 03:54 PM |

haha i took close to 100 shots within 1 hour and only like 10 of them turned out decently without vibration (the resize helped mask the vibrations a bit though). The key is not to jolt the rig. Meaning only touch the brake before and after the exposure (of coz safety first and brake when you're about to collide with something, life > shots). Literally at 0 kmph or whatever reading it is when you put to 'D' and not touch the throttle. Experimented with a little throttle too. Forgot which was which.
Helps to leave it at manual focus so you don't refocus every single time you take a shot. Do share your shots here when you've tried it. This post has been edited by DJFoo000: Apr 22 2010, 06:23 PM |
