hey guys, i'm going to change my faulty intel wifi 5300, my broadband is very unstable, and for some reason, everytime i lose my internet connection, my laptop BSOD (both in vista and win 7 + latest/old drivers make no difference)

So the thing is, i'm reading alot of good things about Atheros, so wondering if i should get one instead of the 5300.

If yes, which model? cause i have no idea at all.

Added on March 8, 2010, 8:17 am+ could somebody confirm with me, the 5300 that is in the S42 is not the half size one right? would the half size one work? cause its half the price... and it seems to do the same thing.

Intel 6200?

if your card is full size and you bought the half size, the problem is you can't screw the card...

no complains with the Atheros WLAN adapters on my laptop...

so astria, you know the model of the atheros one which is like the 5300? got draft n liddat de....

Between Atheros & Intel 5300..which is better than the other?? ...advantage using Atheros would be can install OSX without any problem

lol, not sure... the one i am using now (AR928X) is the same as 5100... 802.11b/n only...

b/n only ..meaning cannot use G signal one?? ...well, 5100 is quite good edi ..

Unless S42 owners are thinking switching to something that is much more powerful than S42 with a little price, then maybe there will be a lot that would sell off their laptops ...

But sadly, that's not the case now as S42 are kinda rare and exotic now...a powerful laptop within 2.5k range, where to find ...

any S57 users here experiencing random crashes during graphics intensive gaming? I'm suspecting that the GC is overheat.. any ways to work around other than physical cooling?

Check the temp first?

i tried to but since the screen will go black and whole system crashed i had to do a hard reset.. but GPU-z shows max temp of about 95C when i tab out during gaming..

95C is still quite ok...
tried updating the driver?

yeah, but problem persists.. the first driver i installed was 9.7, just game crashed instead of whole system crash, and i can't play DiRT 2 properly with it!

then i upgraded to 9.12, this is when the system crash starts. now with the newest 10.2, there's a problem installing it and it shows catalyst 9.7 is installed instead of 10.2.. no any performance compromise, but still crashes

Tried Catalyst 10.3 beta?

not yet bro. didn't know about the existence of their beta drivers. but then if ATI's WHQL drivers are not that good already I doubt that the beta could do any better
