Don't get V13 if battery life is a concern, it only last around 2-2.5 hoursMain concern is the battery life as lappies priced arnd this price are already decent in specs. 1. Brand : Dell 2. Budget : RM2.5k ~ RM3k 3. Specs : Decently spec'ed with dual core and GFX being able to support at least 720p videos. 4. Size : Doesn't really matter As said, i'm sticking with dell as i'm too lazy to research one by one about other brands Currently having the V13, Studio 15 and Vostro 1320. Initially looked at the Studio 15 and Vostro 1320. Studio 15 for its price to performance ratio and 9-cell battery and the Vostro 1320 as it's quite decent. But then the V13's design is just too attractive. Was just wondering whether the V13 can support 720p videos and is there any option to upgrade the battery to 9cell? thanks QUOTE(sporkfoon @ Apr 7 2010, 03:18 PM) hp pavilion dv4i and dv4t series, anyone know the prices? and is it a good buy for girl just to do work, watch movies and surfing. except gaming. The one available now is prices at RM3899 and RM4099, IMO too pricy if just for those task.QUOTE(James_yka @ Apr 12 2010, 12:14 AM) Hi all. QUOTE(squareballs @ Apr 7 2010, 04:17 PM) I'm having big dilemma between toshiba T110 RM2199 and the HP DV2-1203 RM2399 Well, the DV2 would be quite hot due to its thin chassis and also its quite outdated..Both also comes with external dvd drive. And does AMD really overheat if i leave it overnight for downloading? Other than these 2 models, any other 11 inch notebooks around this price range except acer? Can consider HP DM1@RM2199 if don't mind its touchpad... QUOTE(szaku89 @ Apr 7 2010, 06:04 PM) Emergency here, lost my laptop and have to find an immediate replacement, not too high spec, but cheap. Will be studying a course in Computer Science so I'd like to know the perfect laptop for the course as I believe it will involve some programming work. Consider Asus N82Jv@RM3999, it got 2 years international warranty with fits perfectly with your overseas needs.1. Brand. Not much preference in brand. 2. Budget. Possibly less than 4k? (: 3. Specs. at least 2.2GHz processor speed (core duo and above) at least 2GB RAM at least 500GB space (or maybe lesser, i compromise) must have webcam good graphics widescreen etc etc 4. Size. not too bulky, but i don't mind. I can carry my own weight pretty well. P/S: is it recommended to buy during PC fair? do i get fair discounts or it'd be the same as buying at Lowyat or Digital mall? I prefer a minimum of core 15-520, ATI Radeon Mobility 5650 and 4GB of DDR3 ram. Don't care for any brand as long as the laptop is reliable and the warranty is good. Screen size also don't matter as long as it's not below 14". Please recommend some laptops for me that fulfills all those criteria. I'll be using the laptop to play games such as The Sims 3, Starcraft 2, Civ 5 and Simcity 5 if it ever comes out. I want to play those games at full setting, so please advice me if the specs are up to task. I thought of getting a desktop but I'll be traveling a lot and thus requires a laptop as my main computer. Why not get something like Acer 1410T or 1810TZ, 11.6'' and get a external monitor...Budget > as cheap as possible (below 2k if possible) Screen > Preferably large cuz you know old people lah, they have problems with reading small fonts (I told her i could reduce the screen res for her, which would make everything look bigger but she said then there would be less space for her to work with *sigh* have to give and take mah~) I'm thinking the standard 15" should be sufficient. Since she won't be lugging it around often, i don't think weight is an issue here. Requirements are pretty low so i'm sure we can get something good enough for her below 2k. QUOTE(uncleJ @ Apr 12 2010, 02:39 PM) Hi guys, looking for a laptop as well. Some interesting posts here but my requirements differ a bit. Can consider Sager NP8690, one of the top 15'' available in the world, starting from RM4.5K excluding shipping for i5-520M + ATi HD5870, FullHD, freeDOS at muro.asia- Battery: it's gonna be a desktop replacement @ plugged in all the time, so I don't care if it's got crap battery life. - Screen size: i'm not young, and I love my eyesight... must be at least 15" - Weight: don't care, it's going to be sitting on a desk - Budget: no ceiling, but let's just throw out a random figure of RM5,000. - Brand: no preference; I've owned a Dell Inspiron (good experience); a little wary of HP due to some friends' advice (but tell me if you know otherwise) - CPU: must be core i7, but if you can point me at a good i5 machine go ahead - Graphics card: okay this is a sore point with me; all the pcs I've owned were always several generations of gfx cards behind, so I've never been able to play "modern" games. I want something that isn't from the stone age. Actually I'd like a real new model if possible. I'm sick of getting 10fps in the few games I borrowed from my friends. Anything else you guys need to know? can customize it to i7-dual core or i7-quad core. http://www.mucro.asia/index.php?/Mucro-Sag...ger-NP8690.html or if want big monitor, can consider Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q870, 18.4'', i7-720QM, Nvidia GTS360M@RM5.1K excluding shipping http://www.mucro.asia/index.php?/Toshiba-N...-X505-Q870.html QUOTE(just_ckl @ Apr 12 2010, 04:13 PM) Hey. I've been taking a look at Dell's stuff (naturally, since I currently own an Inspiron 6400 from '07), I'm not really happy with the Alienware M15x. Seems to me that the specs are very similar to that of their Studio 15 with the main difference being the gfx card. Not much difference elsewhere and yet the price is 60% more for the Alienware. I like Dell, but I'd rather get my money's worth. Is the Core i7 that bad for gaming, or do you mean the increase in performance compared to the i5 is not noticeable versus the cost increase? I'm not really going to play a lot (don't have the time anymore, sigh) -- but when I do, I expect the machine to perform. Most of the time I'll be using it to dev stuff (I'm an SQL/graphics guy). I'm still leaning towards the i7, prefer to err on the side of overkill instead of underpowered. That's fine, not max settings is okay as long as I can expect modern games to run at decent (not low) settings. By the way, thanks for this comparison, I think this is the info which will really help me most of all because I don't understand the crazy numbering scheme. Cheers! and if want to get M15x, at least get it with GTX 260M, else its not really worth it... This post has been edited by lee_what2004: Apr 13 2010, 11:20 PM |

QUOTE(doomx @ Apr 13 2010, 01:26 PM) i have been using DELL Inspiron 6400 for 4 yearrs + now coming to 5 very soon. Recently was working at pc fair and saw quite a number of laptop. Acer is going very cheap but with superb spec especially the 4745. But i am also leaning towards the Asus A42Jr which if i am not wrong is the same spec as acer but extra RM200. Any advise to help me choose either of this one would be much appreciated. I would say take the Acer 4745G, it also comes with switchable GPU and also by now should be offered with 3-years warranty.Since Asus and Acer is being serviced by HighPoint, shouldn't be any difference in service quality... About that, I can't comment much.
Though one point probably be G73JH is mass produced while Sager is usually build-by-order... This post has been edited by lee_what2004: Apr 13 2010, 08:55 PM |

Try to look for Lenovo G460 with Nvidia 310M, should be around RM2.2-2.4K or Compaq CQ42-189TX, i3 330M + ATi HD5430@RM2299
or if can extend budget abit, look for Asus A42Jr, i3 350M + ATi HD5470@RM2599. If after sales is the most concern, can consider Dell Inspiron 14, i5 430M + ATi HD4330@RM2599... |

QUOTE(-Teddy- @ Apr 16 2010, 09:38 PM) Should I get a second hand Acer Timeline 3810T at RM2.2k or should I wait for 3820T which has more powerful processor? Any other recommendations in this "lightweight + superb battery life" category? If your budget is RM2.2K, I guess none defeats the spec of 3810T@RM2.2KPrefer something below 2.5k. QUOTE(Bakemono @ Apr 17 2010, 08:38 AM) Hello, i need a laptop but im willing to wait for any new laptop as long as it's good. On the heavy side, can consider Dell Studio XPS 16, Acer 5942G, 15.6'', i7-720QM + ATi HD5650@RM4799 or Vaio EB18,15.5'', i3 330M + ATi HD5650, FullHD, BD-ROM@RM3999Brand: I don't mind. Im currently using Compaq but thinking of changing to another one. Budget: below rm5000 Processor, Erm...preferably i3 and above?....i think i'll go for an i5 RAM: 2gb and above, my old one was only 1gb and it was kinda laggy (because i multitask to the max) Hard drive... 320gb and above Graphics: i don't know anything about this but sometimes i want to play games and i can't seem to play any with my old laptop TT Screen size: 14-15...and resolution must be good because i watch a lot of movies and stuff weight: please less than 2.7kg...while most of the time it will sit on my table, i want a lighter one. I use my laptop mainly for entertainment (movies, games, web surfing) and occasionally for assignment stuff like powerpoint and word. So any recommendations? 14'' wise, Asus N82Jv, i5 520M + Nvidia GT335M@RM3999, Lenovo Y460, i5 540M + ATi HD5650@RM3599, Vaio CW26, i5 520M + Nvidia GT330M, 1600x900@RM3999 QUOTE(Tsunadee @ Apr 17 2010, 09:15 AM) hi,any recommendation , Can opt for Dell Inspiron 14, i3 350M + ATi HD4330@RM2449-budget:<RM2500 brand :any spec:movies, pps stream, facebooking, listening music, suitable for uni student weight:not too heavy size:below 15' inch QUOTE(Irzani @ Apr 17 2010, 04:00 PM) Need some help which one worth for me .. it doesn't matter whether it's for work or games .. just want the best of it .... perhaps in the term of performance, built in speaker, integrated audio ... or resolution .. QUOTE(nern@h @ Apr 19 2010, 01:32 PM) hi guys jz nid more info here... I would recommend Asus A52Jr, if you still can get it...i got 2 choices here new dell inspiron 15 vs asus a52jr. looking at the spec asus win bt how bout d reliability?pls help me..... my purpose is multitasking, presentation, video editing, games (dota, WOW). its been replaced by A52Jk with little worse GPU, HD5145... QUOTE(Blythe.. @ Apr 19 2010, 01:37 PM) i'm currently struggling in between either sony vaio F117 or dell studio xps Depends on whether you want to pay the extra cost for F117....both i7 too..sony only offer 5400rpm hdd , while dell i 7200rpm, f series seems a better buy due to vaio quality n so on.. with RM 7.3K price tag, you can even opt for Sager NP8690 or Asus G73JH, though need to import or the design might not appeal to you and still left around RM 1-2K to put in a SSD... QUOTE(alcatrez @ Apr 19 2010, 08:50 PM) Yo Bros, Acer 1410T, should be around RM1499i need a new laptop 1) 11'" to 13.3" screen 2) The longer the battery, the better. I'm hoping for 4 hours. 3) I need it for travelling and doing work. I do a lot of travelling. Currently i have a 14.1 inch HP. But i'm quite fed up with the weight while travelling. Especially when the heat comes out at the bottom when i put it on my lap (and they call it laptop 4) budget around RM1.5k I was thinking of hp 13.3 inch. BUt it is over my budget. So the HP mini is my 1st choice currently. Any advice? QUOTE(prescott2006 @ Apr 19 2010, 08:59 PM) 1. Brand=any Toshiba L510-402, t6570 + ATi HD4570, freeDOS@RM20992. Budget=below 2.3k 3.
