Actually I'm okay with Carrick out for the second leg. Already we know Carrick will play the Carling Cup final.
I don't care what anyone says, I want us to win the Carling Cup!

Carrick stunned by red card
QUOTE Michael Carrick admits he was 'shocked' to be sent off at the end of Manchester United's 3-2 win over AC Milan. The midfielder was shown a second yellow card in stoppage-time after flicking the ball away following Patrice Evra's foul on Alexandre Pato. Sir Alex Ferguson had few complaints with the decision and stated that Portuguese referee Olegario Benquerenca had little option but to dismiss Carrick. However, following a first red card of his professional career, Carrick feels he was harshly treated by the decision, which rules the England international out of the second leg of the UEFA Champions League last-16 tie in three weeks' time. Very soft "It was very soft to be honest," Carrick told Sky Sports News. "It rolled at me and I flicked it into Pat's path as he's ran past me. "It wasn't as if there was a player from their team trying to get it and it didn't slow the game down in any way. "I was just shocked really, to be honest." Asked if he spoke to the referee about the incident, Carrick replied: "What can you say really? "He said it was for kicking the ball away, but I don't believe I kicked the ball away to be honest. "I didn't slow the game down in any way, I was just surprised more than anything." http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11945_5955365,00.html Fletcher - All to play for QUOTE Darren Fletcher believes there is still 'all to play for' in Manchester United's tie with AC Milan and expects the first goal in the second leg to be crucial. United secured a first win over Milan in the San Siro on Tuesday night as Wayne Rooney's headed brace clinched a 3-2 success. The 2008 winners appeared poised to take a two-goal advantage into the return clash at Old Trafford in three weeks' time until Clarence Seedorf scored a late second goal for Milan. Seedorf's impudent effort ensures the tie is in the balance and Fletcher, who created two of United's goals in the San Siro, is aware a place in the quarter-finals is far from guaranteed. And, with just a one-goal cushion, the Scotland midfielder predicts the opening salvo in the second leg will play a decisive role in determining which European heavyweight will reach the last eight. Quality "The next goal is going to be crucial," said Fletcher. "We went to win the first leg and we've done that, but it is still all to play for in the tie. "We have seen the quality Milan have got in their side. They are capable of creating chances and scoring goals so we will have to be on top form to get through." United had lost twice to Milan in the San Siro in recent seasons and, despite a shaky first-half showing, Fletcher believes the Premier League champions have improved since their previous visits. He added: "We were maybe a bit naive when we first came here, but we have come a long way. "As players you get more mature every season and pick up more experience. You learn how to cope with these sorts of situations. "We need to maintain these standards in the Champions League though. "It is no good resting on your laurels thinking you have made it because there are too many other teams with so much quality." http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11945_5955314,00.html This post has been edited by alien2003: Feb 17 2010, 10:24 PM |

Everton away next. Arteta is back for them. Fellaini out rest of the season so he doesn't have to annoy us. Cahill is injured too right?

wow! what a game it was. i cant believe we won that away match at san siro. how many years since we last beat milan at the san siro in the champions league ?
both teams, milan and united was just beautiful to watch. really nail biteting and end to end stuff. there was one moment where both played some nice flowing football. to be honest, we didnt really have a good start to the game. it was always difficult to get the ball from milan and even if we did, we would give it back to them immediately. i just didnt like how we didnt kept the ball more in the 1st half and it was always milan that was looking the more dangerous side. it was always going to be anyways. our defenders were a little bit shaky at the back or maybe its just the team that wanted a slow start which let to mistakes that could've punished us. after our slow start to the game where we didnt even quite have the ball at that time because milan was controlling the game more then us, they were using both of their flanks to get crosses into our 6 yards box. i should say that it was more on ronaldinho in the 1st half. always kept giving nightmares for our defenders especially rafael and ferdinand. not to mention, his goal. which i thought was just lucky because of the deflection. if it wasnt for that. it could've been a comfatable save for van der sar. its always dangerous to be giving away freekicks which somehow led to the goal because the freekick of course came from beckahm and we all know his dead ball situations are the most promising ball that can lead to a goal. beckham was not much to been since after that freekick but i think he played his part and i think he did ok for milan. nani, in my opinion, was back to his old self. all his balls delivered into the milan's 6 yard box was all a waste. even rooney was dissapointed with his crosses. he just cant get past milans defenders especially their leftback because he was marking nani tighly and it was hard getting past him to make something else other then the poor crosses. park on the other hand played ok but still nothing suprise came from him because his been marked tighly by milans defence. we just couldnt do much out of those balls except going to waste. we didnt trouble dida but milan was on the other hand giving problems for van der sar and i thanks him for all the saves he made. we just didnt give much trouble for milan as we wanted too. scholes goal was a very rare one. i really didnt saw that coming. things were happening so fast that i was not able to catch up. gotta say, scholes goal was a lucky one as well. something like ronaldinho's goal but in a diffrent way. well, we'll just have to accept scholes goal in any case. it was something to be happy about after going down with a goal so early in the 1st half. in the 1st half, i can say that we really played poor. we just didnt have much control of the ball. it was always going to be milan and ronaldinho that was doing us damages at the back. they could be easily 2 or even 3 goals up in the 1st half alone. but as for the 2nd half, united came back looking better. must've been ferguson hairdyer talk in the dressing room which gave the united players something to think about and go out there looking for a win. i felt barcelona took the game slow this time as comapred to the 1st half. of course they weree still causing us some slight problems here and there on the pitch. then it was time for nani to leave the field and give way to valencia which i thought was good because i just couldnt see how we were going to get our second goal if we didnt make any tactical changes. our second goal came non other then rooney. someone that i can always trust and put my money on to score goals. a great cross from valencia and a super header from rooney. valencia didnt gave much crosses like nani did but his crosses were something which can be turn to goal unlike nani's which all just went to waste. but if nani did all that crosses like valencia's, i think rooney can finish the job there and then. but the thing is it was not. i also thought that it would be better to start valencia off 1st but i guess its ok with me if ferguson chosses nani. 3rd goal from rooney was way to easy. its like everyone in the milans defence went to sleep, even dida. everyone was just watching the ball drop into the net. far to easy goal. but amazing vision from fletcher to spot rooney. milan's second goal was a shocker. it came out from nowhere especially seerdof with that nicely done skill goal. i think man utd were caught there and it gave them something to wake up. the hole stadium then came back to life as milan fans had some lifeline to cheer about. im just glad everything was over after the final wisthle and im happy we won our away game againts milan at the san siro. i just hope we can play better then what we did and not try by making those small silly mistakes by giving the ball away to cheaply to milan. gotta try to keep more of the ball the next time we play them at old trafford. also, it would be a great return to becks as well when we see him at 3 weeks from now at trafford. it's ok if we didnt kept a clean sheet but for now, we've done well and i hope united will try to at least get a goal at home. just want us to be on the safe side and hopefully everything will go well as we qualify for the next round. People are being a bit harsh on Nani. Sure he didn't play that well, but our attacking play didn't turn up most of the match with us on the back foot and them having all their midfielders and defenders back defending most of the time. So kinda hard to make space etc.

pace and skills doesnt equate to a football genius. cos a football genius needs a football brain. |

Rooney's frustration shows it all. You can see the difference when he was sub with Valencia. Our approach are more direct and crosses are coming in when there were chances. Our possesion was better after that.Yes, Nani did make a few good crosses but overall, he was really bad. Valencia came in he has already put more efficient crosses, which one of it lead to Rooney's first goal. |

QUOTE(nimrod2 @ Feb 18 2010, 01:44 AM) The one who plans and the one who executes are not necessarily from the same person. You can't get everything in a package. Ronaldo for example, i don't think he is football genius or a player who has the best football brain. He was/is what he was/is because of his team mates. So does everyone else. Depending on each other. That's what we call team work. You get some, you lose some. |
