At 68, the Scot's voracious hunger for silverware remains as keen as ever and he will not swap the adrenaline rush of triumph for anything until his dying breath.

That is according to French left-back Patrice Evra, who revealed the legendary Old Trafford boss jigged into the dressing room after his side beat hated rivals City in the Carling Cup semi-final last week.

He said: "Sir Alex is a child. We saw it against Manchester City. He's so passionate.

"He was jumping up and down like a child after that game.

"You could be forgiven for thinking he'd never won a game before!

"At 70, he doesn't see himself taking it easy at home reading a book or watching TV. Personally I think that would bore him.

"I don't think he will call an end to his career. As long as he's strong he will carry on.

"He will stay until his last breath."

United's 3-1 victory at Arsenal on Sunday put them on course for an unprecedented fourth straight championship.

Yet Evra says Fergie keeps his superstars' feet firmly on the ground - whatever they achieve.

He said: "Manchester United is a factory workers' club. You have to respect that culture.

"It's a club where we work hard. They will not congratulate you after each win. Sir Alex frequently says 'Well done my son' and that says it all.

"For them it's normal when you play a good game.

"It's normal to win the championship. It's Manchester United.

"We don't have the right to make mistakes."

And when mistakes are made, Fergie is showing no signs of mellowing, having lost none of his infamous temper.

As Evra revealed: "I do what I have to on the pitch. I'm not like Ferguson's son. But as soon as I'm not good, Ferguson will give me the 'hairdryer'.

"That he gave me the captain's armband is enormous.

"I am truly very proud to wear it. I didn't want to let him down."

Yet the most vital element of Fergie's reign is the team ethic - that keeps everyone in the star-studded dressing room in their place.

That is why Evra believes United got over the loss of £80million Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez, who joined City, so well.

Speaking to French TV station Canal+, Evra added: "We miss Cristiano and Tevez but the real star at United is the team. With Cristiano we relied on him in certain games.

"Today we need to do a bit more each of us to to create danger for our opponents."
