MANCHESTER UNITED READY TO SNAP UP JOE COLEQUOTE
MANCHESTER UNITED are ready to make a summer move for England midfielder Joe Cole if he cannot resolve his contract dispute at Chelsea.
Talks on a new deal for Cole have dragged on for weeks and are no nearer being concluded.
Cole, 28, will be out of contract in the summer and clubs are now beginning to be alerted that his future is becoming increasingly uncertain. Sir Alex Ferguson has been an admirer of Cole for some time and the prospect of picking up such an experienced and talented player on the cheap would be an attractive one.
United boss Ferguson is looking for reinforcements on the left for Ryan Giggs and Cole, who could be available as a free agent, would be a bargain.
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp groomed Cole at West Ham and turned him into a star.
He would love to take him to White Hart Lane but Cole’s £80,000-a-week wages at Stamford Bridge are out of his range. Cole has told friends that he would at some stage like to play under Ferguson. He would like to stay at his first love, Chelsea, but talks over a new deal are at a stalemate.
He wants to be moved into the same £120,000-plus wage bracket as players such as Nicolas Anelka, but the club are reluctant to hand out big-money deals in the current financial climate.
And Cole has had a miserable season. He came back from a cruciate ligament injury in September and has since started just nine games under Carlo Ancelotti, above, finishing only three.
He has made another six substitute appearances, adding up to only 814 minutes of playing time in five months.
On Saturday Cole was hauled off by Ancelotti at half-time against Cardiff in the FA Cup.
Ancelotti says Cole is still a part of his plans, but Manchester City are also keen on Cole and there will be no shortage of suitors.

According to Spanish newspaper 'Sport', Barcelona have shortlisted their summer transfer targets which include Manchester United utility man John O'Shea .
The European champions are reportedly searching for two types of additions to their squad. They are keen to add another creative dimension and in addition to the ubiquitous mention of Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas, Franck Ribery and David Silva are highlighted as likely targets.
'Sport' also claims that the Catalans are looking to bring in another right-sided defender, especially with Brazilian Dani Alves currently their only real option in that position. In addition to Osasuna's 20 year-old Cesar Azpilicueta , Manchester United 's John O'Shea is said to be a target to fill the gap.
'Sport' speculates that O'Shea's experience and versatility make him an attractive proposition for Barcelona. The 28 year-old has spent his entire career so far at Old Trafford. However, O'Shea has been injured ever since Ireland's World Cup play-off defeat against France with a mystery leg injury. He is unlikely to play for Manchester United again this season.
http://www.imscouting.com/global-news-arti...eds-OShea/5873/PICTURE SPECIAL: Ryan Giggs reveals the sling holding his broken arm together in a scene from a Lowry paintingQUOTE
Ryan Giggs emerged from the Lowry Hotel in Manchester a shadow of his former self and with his broken arm in a sling.
Actually it was more a five o'clock shadow of his former self as the Manchester United legend flopped into the passenger seat of a waiting car with the help of a valet, sporting the sort of beard only a man with no means of being able to shave properly can get away with.
Giggs,36, will miss four weeks after breaking his arm following a a clash with Aston Villa's Steve Sidwell but he looked relaxed following United's stunning 3-2 Champions League win in Milan.
He also looked like something out of a Lowry painting with his black hat perched atop his Welsh curls - but at least the valet looked happy, even if he couldn't get an autograph on account of the bad break.

Caption (from the webpage): Ah good morning Mr Giggs...hope you enjoyed your stay at The Lowry and I'm sorry our remote controlled door isn't working...

Caption (from the webpage): ...that's a nasty-looking arm you've got there. Here, let me help into your car, this posh black one...

Caption (from the webpage): ...do you mind if I get a picture of you as I love that hat and beard combo and you clearly can't sign an autograph for me. Drive carefully, or should I say Caerphilly, if you excuse my little joke...?
