the real 4G definition for GSM is LTE, Long Term Evolution. Wimax is the competing standard.IMHO our existing Telcos wont support Wimax because they've committed to GSM.

So if you want to invest in 4G phones in malaysia, better wait for LTE devices.

AT&T in USA is implementing LTE. So you can expect the iPhone to go LTE instead of WiMax.

Because they are not a mobile cell operator and their technology is DATA ONLY. The guys are right, we've committed to GSM and 4G would be LTE for us not WIMAX. That technology has been relegated as a internet service. The Government has only issued a limited number of license for operating WIMAX so how do you expect a wide scale implementation?

Also WIMAX 'doesn't connect' to our cell phone infrastructure like WCDMA, HSDPA. These are part of the GSM infrastructure. So LTE is the answer.

VOIP and mobile phone are two entirely different products. You want a phone to be reliable and act like one. I don't think telcos will offer VOIP as a staple diet though.

i thought voip only means you cannot make emergency calls, and you have to sign up with voip provider as well ...
and also you have to launch voip app all the time and you cannot simply dial number on the phone...

ineser, that is just so obvious. fyi, the EVO will only run on CDMA networks, not GSM.

here in malaysia, we use GSM.

so whenever you see phones that state CDMA/EV-DO, then they wont work in malaysia.

hahaha what do you mean by we will see then?

of cos this phone wont be here in malaysia due to the fact that it is a cdma phone.

what we'll be getting maybe something that supports LTE. and it will definitely wont be known as HTC EVO 4G.

and LTE will be a long way in the future. just look at how slow our telco's implement 3g to their network.

if you apply a good matte screen protector , the AMOLED screen can be seen under the sunlight already . and it also prevent fingerprint .

yeah , Just have a glance with Galaxy S on youtube.. Pretty impressed by the big screen .. but when it comes with Samsung UI , although with 1ghz processor , you will experience some lagging , lower responses with Samsung UI . HTC is always better because it is a company specialized in phone area . Samsung UI programming need to enhance more based on the logic design of the hardware , so the UI can run more smooth . If galaxy S hardware + Sense UI , it will be perfect . oh yeah , bro ... my Desire tongue.gif .. almost running out of patience , lolz .... when it will come icon_question.gif ~~~~~

seems to be the trend now. use android but customized ui. so far htc seems to have the nicest ui, but failed in a few of the attempts of widgets like friendstream for example.

just my own opinion..what i mean was there could be no evo 4g for GSM..
but mayb htc will build up another GSM model that have large screen or same hardware with evo but dun think included 4g...

evo 4g is like purposely built for use with Sprint and utilized their 4g coverage..
thats what i think only...

EDIT: if there is a gsm version for evo 4g, expect to get it in next few months or end of the year...US only release it on early of june

oic... i thought you have insider info. laugh.gif

I dun care about 4G, just port the phone to GSM 3G with the rest of the killer specs and I will get one definately. I also expect it to be out end of year or early next year IF it really be converted into GSM.

I am contented with the current specs of EVO 4G - WiFi, tethering and HDMI output and the slick black design. The first 3 features will not have significant chnages/improvement in the near future. So I dun think any future release will bother me.

Other festures like phone camera/video recorder might be upgraded in the next model but imho they are just marketing gimmick, they can't even replace the mid-end point and shoot. I think in another year, PnS camera will have decent 720p recording for sure.

what i mean was htc maybe release other model that may better spec than evo 4g since evo 4g only available in CDMA. so htc maybe release a new model that available in gsm version..unless u stay in US, u cant even use evo at other countries...
with the massive 4.3" screen,it really bother me..and what if equip with 1.3 ghz or above, 576RAM, above 1GB ROM,etc? i think it will bothering u as well...

btw,b4 they have such nice hardware, they need to consider whether the android OS can fully support the hardware or not first

guys, i just tested my cousin's EVO.. she works in US and coming back to Malaysia for family wedding..

* for me the screen is not as nice as my Nexus One eventhough it feel easier in terms of response sensitivity

* the size for me is just nice although i feel this is the largest size a mobile phone should be.

* i couldnt test the 3G connectivity bcoz it's not supported here.

* and for me the lack of trackball / optical trackpad is a downside because i used to using it a lot in messaging and surfing. the on screen directional keypad is a bit slow for first timer like me.

* the stand is really really nice thing to have! wish all this so called smartphone can have that too!

and i forgot to test out the camera / mp3 playback haha.. kinda bz with the wedding.. anyway IMO if it ever comes in GSM version, it will be great, but i doubt it will be better than Desire / Nexus One for everyone.
and i still rate my Nexus One higher than it..

anyway... for me.. a smartphone can never replace a real notebook / netbook and vice versa.

people keep saying when a device has big screen, it can replace ur netbook.. but the reality is, if u r at home, or if u have a netbook in front of u, will u still surf / chatting thru ur smartphone?

and people keep saying netbook is so portable but do u see people carrying them everywhere they go? no.

so while having an EVO is great, for me the thinking of it can replace a netbook is not right.

Just read about something new about Scorpio. It has been rumour to be available in GSM soon and come with EVO form factor. We might get it as the GSM version of EVO maybe. brows.gif

Different ppl will have different need for a mobile device. For me, I just need to check email and maybe reading news on my mobile device when I am in a transit at airport. Or while waiting for food to be served when I am with my family in the restaurant with Wi-Fi. Or share videos with my friend during a gathering (good time to show off your phone tongue.gif ) A large screen mobile phone is better than a small netbook in this case.

A smart phone is almost a part of my daily life now. My Treo 680 has all my contacts, notes, passwords, bank details, and not forgetting games that kill time while waiting in a bank/office or anywhere else.

Speaking of games - I dun think mobile phone's games is less addictive and fun than games that you can play on the netbook/notebook. And it is far more convenient too - you just take out your phone and start playing, rather than starting up your computer and wait for few minutes for it to boot. When it is your turn at the bank or anywhere else, just slip the phone into your pocket. Can you imagine you need to shut down your notebook.... so troublesome. rclxub.gif Moreover, no one will know what you are doing with your phone? laugh.gif

lol..phone is phone which is needed wherever you go..netbook is not a phone..is a computer that do what a computer need/can do..like ms word, photoshop, etc etc..
even u got 10" iPad or android table, it still cant full replace as netbook/notebook...

just my 2 cents

but by the time scorpio out,is already end of the year..so why don get a phone now and change it later?win-win situation

currently the Desire does not have a killer feature that can make it irresistable to me. My Treo 680 is having some minor problem lately but all can be resolved with a soft reboot. So I hope it can tahan until the EVO or similar phone reach here or Spore. The HDMI output and 720p playback of the EVO is the feature I hope to have in my next smartphone. And if wait until year end, I believe the phone will come with Froyo as default, which will boost the performance further.

But if my Treo really dies before year end (touch wood), then no choice I will have to settle for a Desire. Buying Desire now and change it later will cost money which i dun want. sweat.gif

I thought Samsung Galaxy S is very plasticky and build quality not that good? I heard their customer service also bad. Most importantly, the design not that appealing to me.

I need a device that can last for years - 2 years at least and do not require service if possible during that 2 years. But if really do need service, I want the customer service to be good. My current Treo 680 has been with me for slightly more than 3 years. My previous Treo 600 also lasted for 2 years plus before the battery problem started.

HTC EVO 4G overtakes Palm Pre for best-selling launch day on Sprint

user posted image
Considering the lackluster career that Palm's inaugural webOS duo ultimately endured on Sprint, it's wild to think back to those heady days when the Pre was the carrier's best launch day performer in history -- but alas, no longer. As you might've expected, the mighty EVO 4G has shown the Pre the door to take its own place in the record books, a mark we're not surprised to see considering the activation issues many customers saw on Friday as Sprint's systems buckled under the load. Sprint isn't quoting figures, but it proudly boasts of "temporary shortages of the device at some of the 22,000 sales locations across the United States" that are in the process of being replenished with daily deliveries. Now, the next hurdle is to see whether Sprint's shared WiMAX infrastructure can stand up to the load of its first wildly-successful 4G consumer product, eh? Follow the break for the carrier's press release.

Iphone is like a trend. During a weekend gathering with my former colleagues yesterday, many have upgraded to Iphone and all of them are ladies. That's why I am going for Android, the latest trend in mobile phone with promising future. Iphone is just too common. laugh.gif
