I just came back from Yangon for my 5 days trip there.....Here I will clarify all your doubts about "what currency to bring to Myanmar"
Question 1: What currency their money changer prefers/ accepted? Answer 1: USD,EURO and SGD (these 3 currencies are widely accepted). As for USD,they have strict rules which is mentioned by most our friend here, must be brand new & clean notes. But as for SGD,they can accept directly without checking your SGD notes Question 2: What if my USD note is old/crumple? Answer 2: Money changers will never accept it,but you can change it with "black market".Black market means those "agent" where mostly you can seen outside the market/tourist area.I saw some of them at Bogyoke Aung San market (Scott Market),most of them wear like normal burmese guy with a "sling bag" with them. They will ask any tourist around for "change money sir?" Bare in mind,if you change with those "black market" with your old/crumple USD notes, the rate might be lower than those money changer rate. Question 3: Can we bring MYR to Myanmar to change to MMK at their money changer? Answer 3: Yes but only available in airport (yangon airport as I know so far) but outside airport, all money changer no longer can accept MYR.So as for convenient purpose is better to bring SGD and MYR both together if you don't mind. Here I can share with you the money changer rate as on 1/10/2015 which I snap at 1 of the money changer in yangon airport.Hopefully this can help This post has been edited by titanz: Oct 9 2015, 03:26 PM Attached thumbnail(s) |

QUOTE(gaeria84 @ Oct 22 2015, 09:58 AM) Next year 24 april - 5 may (11 days). I hope I can survive the heat. Planning to visit the big 4 - Yangon, Bagan, Mandalay and Inle Lake. However, I want to experience the Gokteik Viaduct train ride too. Not sure if I'll have enough time. Will be flying into and leaving from Yangon. Should I travel all the way down to Hsipaw on the first day? This post has been edited by ken_zie: Oct 22 2015, 03:38 PM |
