If u have time, u may opt to visit places like Bagan, Inle Lake or Mandalay which is located far away from Yangon.I did took a train to Bago which is a 2 hour journey from Yangon at the cost of $2. but still Pagodas are the only attraction there. Perhaps U may oso take a ferry ride to Dala township & a take a bus or bike to visit Twante. |

Ya, you might opt to visit Bagan, Inle Lake & Mandalay. Take flight if you can, as they are quite far from Yangon, estimated 7-8 hours drive.
Besides pagodas, not much to see in Yangon (and also Bago), imo. Yes, you need to apply visa in Myanmar embassy, remember to bring passport size photos (white background). |

The ppl in Burma are fussy because of many fake notes. Everywhere you travel nowadays ppl always careful if they receive USD notes. Same with big Indian rupee notes. |

Bump- Anyone been there recently? Can give a rough idea on the costs of accommodation and and food expenses Yangon and Bagan in general.
Also on the safety of single travellers. Planning to go for 10/11days end October. |

If anyone going to Myanmar and interested in changing some MMK, please PM & let me know. I have relatives who just came back from Yangon, inadvertently brought back about a million MMK not knowing that money changers in Malaysia do not accept Myanmar Kyats. If you're interested, exchange can be done according to the street price.
If you do not know yet, usually travellers to Myanmar bring USD along and change for MMK over there. If you change for MMK with me, I'll give you direct rate from MYR -> MMK. That way you will probably save some money that you might lose going MYR -> USD -> MMK. And yes, the rates that I will follow is the Myanmar market/street rate. Just wanna get change them back to RM as we are not planning on going back there anytime soon. |

It is better to bring 100USD note to change at Myanmar because 100 USD note will have better rate compare to 10USD and so on.
Advisable to change at airport since the rate is quite good there compare to Yangon area. Hotel- if compare the same range or rate it is much more pricier in YANGON compare to KL. Taxi- Plenty in yangon and negotiable but their traffic is bad. |

I'll be going to Yangon during the full moon in Oct, which is 25-28 Oct 2015 for a 4D3N trip.
I am looking for a 4-5 star hotel nearby the famous pagoda as my purpose is to go to there during night time for the festival. Any recommendations? Anyone been in Yangon during their full moon festival? Any advise? TQVM. |

Bring USD and make sure it is fresh clean note. The moneychanger will reject old usd notes. You can change at the airport. Rate is quite good. Didn't try sgd.
