guys lets discuss on how to improve our Malaysian league and our Malaysian national team as a whole.
i know some of us don't give 2 shit about our national team or our local clubs. but what is wrong here???
why singapore can market their league so much better and improve on their footballing level so fast, whiles we are still idling.

To improve in terms of footballing qualities, it has to start from the grass roots. Talented youths must be spotted at earlier stages, there must be proper talent scouts.. maybe scouting on talents during Primary School football tournaments at state level and up to country level (MSSM). Once spotted, they can maybe be drafted to bukit jalil (BJSS). But wait, isn't this what they're doing now? Maybe instead of all going to BJSS, can be drafted to a special school or academy created by the state FA.. Go to school and go for training.. Then who knows, they can play for the state and then go to play for Malaysia.

But somehow... good talent always goes missing. I know a few friends who were marvelous and skillful players during our youth back in the 90s. But they later never turn up to play football and instead involves in other careers....

Another aspect that I think our FA has overlooked is how to generate money from our local football. Easiest mistake is on the merchandising area. Tell me, how do local fans want to buy the state team's replica jersey? Is it easy? Maybe for some states, it is. You can go to the stadium and look for stalls selling them. But why la don't the FA setup an official store to sell them. The money goes back to the state FA. And why don't the FA copyright the Liga Super or M league's tournament logo, nameset.. Do it like what the EPL is doing now. The namesets are all standardized and that you must buy the standardized one to apply them.. Money goes to FAM...

Just an idea from me..

agree with schmeichel87 on the grassroots thing. good players need to be developed at an early stage. i'd like to add that football teams and the FAM in general should be free from too much political interests. the top guys should be those who are involved in football from their early life and knows everythong there is about football.

1st: politic people involved in this field..nothing good from but..but only s**T..

2nd: because football is short term career..so many talented skillful player didnt become a professional football player because of this.

i think we need to improve the football field first. seriusly. the state of the football field in malaysia is horrendous. then improve facility and technical ability of coaches. and yes, kick the politician out of FA. bring back the tobacoe companys as sponsor tongue.gif

1. throw politics out from FAM

2. need to start from akar umbi, like from school, liga kampung, daerah

3. bring the import player again and make a quota 3 import player in 1 team

4. players must show passion & commitment on their club or to malaysian football, because nowdays i see player play for money hmm.gif

how about malaysian mentality on football as a career??? parents wont allow their children to become footballer, playing football doesn't put food on the table.

the government need to put more fund, or just privatize it, or legalize sports betting, cuz that how the club earn big money from. look at singapore and their football league, they are doing very good, some players are payed 30k S$ a month. in Singapore they take their football seriously, we dont..

obvious answers.

1. put somebody that knows and love football in charge of FAM. somebody who got the credibility.

2. no tie-ins with political person / org. hard to do bcoz of our gov mentality.

3. marketing team that capable of bringing private company to sponsored. the tobacco company ban from sponsoring sports even has been cancel so it was a good 1st step.

4. stop whining and actually go to the games sometimes. even it's not as good as BPL, it's quite entertaining if u lowered your expectation honestly. suport the league. i'm going to plus fc vs selangor.. let's go!

sports betting is a no-no. with our bribe culture, it will destroy the game like it once did in the 90's.

the thing about growing from grass roots, youth football is kinda good. example: malaysia under 23, 20, 16. but classic FAM, after the fine display at sea games they planning for not allowing the players to play in the super league. how to sharpen the skill and match fitness if not regularly play?

football for a living? harimau muda (under 20) makes 2.5k a month. and average earning among my friends who play in the super / premier league is about 5k. some players even earn > 10k. so it's not that bad. only they need to taught how to spend and invest after retirement.

I disagree with this. A friend of mine handles the insurance coverage for some of the players from the team that won the SEA games. They earn 5 figure incomes. Not enough money? More like lack of meritocracy in selection. That and politics.

Once again I have to disagree. More and more money has been poured in over the years. The league has turned Pro since the days I watched it when it was Semi-Pro and the standard has steadily declined. The more money that's pumped in, the more we fill the pockets of these fat greedy politicians. In fact, we should reduce funding to rid the game of these greedy gits. The FAM need to go through and overhaul. Rest assured, there is no quick fix here.

have you guys gone to a Singaporean league matches??
they are very fun(with cheerleader and all) and happening. not sure why we cant make it like that, most of the time it is pack, but their capacity is very small la... the super reds stadium i think can only fill 3k-4k...but it is still nice to see everybody coming in to the stadium to support their own local club. i hope that in my life time i can see Malaysia league becoming like that. i think privatizing the sector, no more political links.

how about setting up a university just for sports educated people. since some of my high school friends last time was good at sport but very bad at studies. at least the players have something to fall back on after their playing time is over.

Added on January 15, 2010, 2:57 pmi really do love this country and hope its football is taken seriously. i hate when our own Malaysian people making jokes about our football. i am proud to see those youngster win the sea games. didn't expected it. the future is looking good. hope we can develop those young talent.

Because choosing sports (or football in particular) as your career in this country doesn't look like it will provide a very promising future. I believe this is why many parents will try to alleviate their children from that path. Instead, they'll push them to pursue other more prospective careers.

Yep, you're right. They need to find ways to get better funding so in order to provide better facilities and training. It'll be a chain reaction as the number of supporters will increase cause more money to be injected etc.

Honestly, I would really love to see the national team rise up. I do watch them from time to time, but usually ends with disappointment.

5 figure salary is for those right at the top of the scale..how many of them actually make it all the way up there? compare that to other career paths that they can take..

but i do agree that politicizing it has majorly contributed to the sport's decline. a lot of times it has been mentioned that everything in malaysia is politicized.

even for average player in poor club such as KL is getting above 3k which is i think not bad considering many 9 to 5 office workers doesnt make that much.

Not even every schools has a soccer field(just like my school). People prefer to play street soccer or futsal too, due to most of the football fields not well taken care of. When it rains, gonna be damn muddy. Goal pole no net, nobody cares. These primary schools or secondary don't actually encourage football.
