Through your experience, which bank offers the most generous credit limit for credit cards? I know this is subject to credit review but i'm just asking generally.

@rockefeller,
I believe it's v personal. They take into account what your current credit risks are before issuing you a CL - also it's difficult to give you an answer because different people get different CL from different banks.

Citibank has recently given me an increase in CL and that's slightly higher than what I have on my VI.

@rockefeller,
Thus far, the most 'kiam siap' bank I've come across is Maybank tongue.gif

You're right this is pretty subjective but I just want to know in general..

Maybank has been quite accomodating to me, a few times when I was abroad, I needed them to grant immediate temporary credit limit increase, they can do it on the spot sometimes 100% more than the existing limit.

@rockefeller,
Granting of temporary CL is not something I had difficulty with via Maybank. The question is; if they've given me sufficient CL I wouldn't need to be asking for a temporary increase in CL, right!? *grins*

Haha, Maybank is legend. A couple months ago, they refuse to renew my Amex and Visa card but only my Mastercard. Also they reduce the CL on my Mastercard tongue.gif .Call them to see what is the problem as I have excellent paying record. Guess what the teller told me? She told me nicely that, since i only use he Mastercard and not the visa or amex, they see no point in continuing my other cards laugh.gif .Also they say my transaction is low and also very good payee, they basically cannot earn much from me so they reduce the CL whistling.gif . Talk to the girl nicely say that i will use my card more often, she finally agreed to renew my visa but not my amex, but the lowered CL stays. laugh.gif . BTW, my Maybank CL is mere 15% of my annual income biggrin.gif

@gark,
I'm surprised they cut you off on your Amex since I thought they really wanted to increase their database for that card. I was luckier; on 3 separate occasions, I asked MBB to give me an increase in CL on my Amex card and all 3 times it was granted; in fact, the last request, they gave me a permanent increase limit of RM10k smile.gif

You mean they more welcome those who always delay the payment one?

Me also using Maybank mastercard only and they didn't renew me the visa or amex, I am a good payee and not a heavy user also (use 2 or 3 times per month), but they increase my CL twice within few years. blink.gif

@gark,
OikS.. Ur asking for it ! Lol. I must say I'd been a pretty good customer with Amex having accumulated more than sufficient points to redeem a RM3.5k Tag Heuer watch + Panasonic Microwave + Braun High Blood Presure Monitor Kit + a couple Thermos ware, etc.

Haha i really don't know. I maybe use my credit card like 2-3 times a year only. Don't know why, I am CC phobic tongue.gif. Even my subordinate who is like heavily in debt with credit cards, and earns much much lower than me got offered a citibank platinum card with a huge CL. Go figure! laugh.gif

@gark,
CC these days are like UPSR certs; v easy to get *smiles* I'm just the total opposite of you; I use my CC as primary cash; as and when it's possible to use a CC, I use my CC *smiles* - it's just important to remember NOT to overspend and to know what your limit is; your personal limit is definitely NOT your CL but most people don't understand that or don't abide by that rule.

@Omage007,
Assuming I've not redeemed anything previously, I probably would have about 800-900k MR points. Aside from being a "big" spender, I also take advantage of Amex's Platinum Partner's 10x Points + it's 5X points on their Gold CC.

Tinkerbell,

Haha, I don't know where I got my habit from. Whenever I see anything I want to buy, I check my wallet first, not enough cash then either I withdraw cash (only from 1 particular ATM) or I don't purchase it. Most of the time I ended up not buying anything. laugh.gif So far I only use my CC for hotel deposit and Airasia.

@gark,
Like U, I make sure I haf enough $ but I keep those in the bank; then I swipe it with the CC and start to collect points. I'm pretty "kiasu" when it comes to collecting points [as U prob can oredi tell by now] so I do a lot of 'on behalf' purchase for mom and sis, etc.

On the topic of CL, my Citibank Choice card is also around 15% of my annual income. I think the normal limit should be around 2 - 3 months of your monthly income? Do the banks have visibility to our current pay or we need to update them?

For credit cards Citibank is best in offering high credit limit followed by Maybank and OCBC, almost 30& of my annual income.

The worst would be HSBC credit cards offering only about 12% of my annual income.
