@gark,
Like U, I make sure I haf enough $ but I keep those in the bank; then I swipe it with the CC and start to collect points.  I'm pretty "kiasu" when it comes to collecting points [as U prob can oredi tell by now] so I do a lot of 'on behalf' purchase for mom and sis, etc.

u r like me. i'll use amex everytime i swap bcoz of 2X & 5X treatspoints. i got plenty of points but the treatpoints reward in m2u site is quite dull. i don't see any tag watches...

@mancy,
If you're using Amex, U need to refer to the American Express Choice catalogue and you can only make redemptions via that catalogue not the Maybank catalogue.

MBB is pretty stingy in giving CC CL. DA offers me more than double of the CL given by MBB.

Based on my card type, I used to have RHB Evo and they gave me RM40K CL but cancelled the card after a year as hardly use it.

Believe it or not, the CL of my MBB CC is like only 60% of my monthly earnings. Listen! MONTHLY!!!

How kedekut!!!

Wow, 60% of your montly income? That's low. Citi CC must be your first card or it is because your credit history is not proven.

why is RM27 considered generous for a Plat card?

Of all me card, my Citi Clear Card CL is the lowest and its higher than your Citi Plat. So I won't say Citi CL is generous for your case tongue.gif

It is generous enough..

Pay off everything through internet once get back at home.

So 27k is never used up. Usually only use it for petrol, shopping, hotel booking, etc.

For me, I just have one card now.

Original plan is to reduce to 10k.

However, later decide to keep 27k.

Just to make my credit report looks nice, if future I need to take a house loan. smile.gif

no cc balance is important.

If you can keep your 27k full, then it will be a big debt. so clear off better.. wink.gif

Frankly, 27k for a Platinum card is really on the low side.

CC company like to give high credit limit to those users who do not need it.. wink.gif

For us, it is more like a number.

If you use up to that level, you will no longer enjoy the CL increase. smile.gif

I believe that certainly plays a major role too. Banks also will not issue a credit card to anyone over the age of 65 (assume if you were to apply using your paycheck). However, it doesn't necessarily mean that if you're young, the won't be able to get a high credit line. They will look into your income. Banks issuing complimentary credit card will look into the total asset under management etc.

@epalbee3,
On the occasional blue moon it is good to have loads of CL. I have on 4 separate occasions utilised the CL given to me by Amex and had to ask for a temporary increase in CL of almost double. Subsequently they gave me a permanent RM10k increase of CL but that was still insufficient.

RM80k on my VI was insufficient in the last 2 months but since I'm "new" with them and rarely use that card, I decided to pay up RM30k to release more "funds" to it; now I believe I'm almost chocker block until my next payment date.

The rule of thumb is NOT not to spend all your CL; but to make sure that when U do, U have the $ sitting in your bank account to repay your CC bill when it's due.

i believe so. i got my first plat when i was 21 by virtue of my substantial total asset under management with the bank but the CL granted was meagre!

RM80k is a lot. How did you spend it?

Petrol, Shopping, hotel booking, paying bills, not more than RM1k per month.

I got my credit limit increased dramatically when I travelled abroad.
Once I spent about 30k in a month. But that is the story when have chance to go overseas, on business.
That time my CL was just about 5k. So my resort is to use online system to pay it and claim from company immediately every few days.

For every car loan I take now, I have an equivalent saving in FD backing it up.

But house wise, hard to sought equivalent FD, too big for a lifetime. Perhaps using KWSP 2nd account.

I understand the benefit of having higher CL for emergency purpose.
Sometimes you just found that the salary comes late where you need to pay the bills first.

I am not a big spender, so I guess RM27k is just a nice number to me. I used to pay off every night, what for higher credit..

For me, credit limit is just for convenience and emergency; for long term unsettled balance on cc, I think they should just reliaze it is time to pay off, don't forget CC has the higher interest rates of 13.5% - 17.5%.

Added on January 16, 2010, 12:53 pm80k * 13.5%/12 = you need to pay RM900 interest per month, if you are good payer..

Added on January 16, 2010, 12:56 pmIf only you are generous to donate RM10.8k to bank per year.

Define meagre. LOL ! I do agree that the credit line given to the certain bank's VIP customer is kind of low considering many of them have no less than RM200k of deposit with the bank.

She pays the credit card bill in full. So no worries about the interest and all.

@rockefeller,
Er.. RM80k mana cukups untuk beli rumah?! *grins*

Let's just say my LOWEST Platinum Card CL is from Amex; RM30k - now revised to RM40k.

@epalbee3,
U must haf misunderstood me - I'm saying, if you use your CL wisely U wouldn't need to pay any interest. Thus far in my life, I haven't paid a single cent in interest to my banks but have benefitted from the additional cash flow + reward points *smile*

You're right - RM80k is a lot and it wouldn't be easy to use them all up in 1 swipe but I did mention on the occasional blue moon, didn't I?!

@MilesAndMore,
Ditto! I just don't like paying "up front" but had to do that on several times in the last 4 months due to insufficient CL to use *grins* I'm still upset the damn developers don't accept Amex otherwise I probably would be able to accumulate sufficient funds for yet another Tag Heuer *grins*
