Sorry bout that subang man, coz he said it in mandarin...my mandarin half pail water....till
I saw it ysday only knw is not white wood...

Anyway I love the sound of it ... So brought it back home d ...

later while you advancing try to change the entire set of strings to Dunhuang Type B and change a good set
of bridges; Zitan purple sandalwood .. that's the last and only thing you can do for upgrading ur piece of wood without burning a hole in ur pockets.

But bear in mind and large you can't get these two items in malaysia.

Oh yeah ... try to get a proper set of turtle nails ... not those cheaplat plastic nails.

A good and proper foundation can build a MEGA tower later... 基本功 need to be tok-kong solid if you wan to excel ...... and I'm sure sifus like empire/faceless/xi-Ying/cassie agree with me. I only "kong-song" as I'm too
lazy to do enhance my 基本功 until my sifu-chay aslo kenot tahan and kuat kuat lali from teaching me.

PM me when u really got sick of ur present ones. Try the present strings 1st until you advance to G3 or G4; or when you begin to enter competitions/performances then u start the upgrade as once you did then there is NO
U-turn back as you will keep on using the B strings unless you want to re-string the entire guzheng again to
the normal strings. Gz strings especially #1 to #10 very easy to break one. B strings sell in sets ONLY.

For info my gal even snapped string #21 once when she was in a foul mood during practice of 战台风. 2yrs ago doh.gif

I re-emphasis again until tis moment you can't get the B-strings in Malaysia/Singapore even Hongkong.
In Shanghai they normally sell it to the performers/ uni students only as its very limited... imported Stainless
steel nylon coated from Germany under speacial request by Dunhuang GZ for their high end guzhengs.

For one set u can get it thru me if you really WANT it as I normally keep at least 6 sets for my gal's woods... but I need to check wit her 1st else wait till my next purchase.

Bridges not as easy as the strings due to the high demand and limited production.. its custom made.

RM80 for 1 box (1side of the hand only) is a fair price for the nails. I've even paid RM120/4 nails.
But lately her sifu awarded her 2 complete sets of FINE turtle nails and one set of extreme rare bridges
that he brought it back from Beijing for himself.

Tat's where I know a good set of bridges can turn a mid-range GZ to a high end one.

The sound produced can be very bright and loud and not "lumpy".

Since he had a 603 phone number he must be in Kampung Kul. When mood is right I may go check out his nails (plectrums) and maybe add some to my collection.

For something that is nail size you may have many sizes but lets keep it simple to SML (small medium large). I dont think 1 mm difference in size can make a lot of difference. Some people like small ones which is a tiny bit smaller then their fingers. Others like a little bit to jut out (medium). Yet there are people (like me) who like them to protrude out (big). Basically what your teacher mean is "get use to it". You may think 1 cm jutting out from your finger is uncomfortable but I prefer it. If it is longer its even better for me. I think even if they are as big as those which Empress Dowager wears, I will not mind giving them a try.

I have 2 sets of small nails which I bought by accident. There are too small and I never used them. I wonder if I had misplaced them. If you really feel yours are too over size maybe we can swap (let me check to see if I can find them first). Can you put up a pic of the nails you have?

I dont know what chords your are talking about but I figure it should be something simple like use thumb and mid finger to hit say note 5 and higher note 5 (the two coloured strings). This is know as "ba du" or hit strings that were separate by 1 string (like 1 and 3) with thumb and index. I am not sure what the second case is called. Maybe it is called xiau cou (but your pin yin is wrong). Whatever the case may be your fingers were not designed to hit each other. That is the reason the creator gave you fingers. If the fingers are are suppose to stick to each other the creator will just create you with palm only.

You fail to realise one thing on all your questions concerning nails, "the nails are not part of your body". That is why you are complaining this and that. Be one with the nail (practise until it becomes as if it is part of your body) and you will not have so much complains. The first case you are worried it jut out as you feel uncomfortable (not one with nail yet). In this second case is a issue strength control. I am sure you will have more and if you do remember your need time to make the nail part of your body. Try to play with and without nails that will gauge if you had become one with the nail or not.

Hello all,

I want to try out gu zheng. i stay at cheras taman midah area. where is suitable place for me to get a class? I dont have any experience in any music instrument. only during pendidikan music in school i handle before recorder and clarinet.

not sure my short finger suitable for gu zheng? I dont plan to buy it yet not sure if any music center can I go just use during basic lesson. cause i not sure I am going to learn for fun or for serious... i scare i might get half hearted and abandon it after that. but after hearing a few gu zheng professional player plays it the sound makes me feel nice. Maybe the tone...is very different than normal guitar. maybe the vibration of the notes...not sure.

any male gu zhengnist here? will it be awkward if gu zheng play by male..usually is female..soft and gentle..
and i not sure if i can remember all 21 strings.

but less than piano that has 85 keys to remember.

any recommendation which center should i go nearest to start a basic gu zheng lesson? and how much will it cost? roughly is there level to master like piano got level 1 until 8..in gu zheng is there any levels?

is it having music sheets? or is it a different symbols? or is it represent using numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4 ~ 21 in the music sheet?
