Assalamuaikum and salam sejahtera , guys . i just finished my spm 2010 and now want to study accounting in australia . Can anyone help/tell me what to do ? should i take diploma first and go to aussie or you guys can tell me if have any other way besides diploma ?

p/s -  sorry for the 'broken english' !! helpp

go and study some Australian year 12 programmes like SAM or Ausmat. Or stuff like CPU and A-Levels would work to. A Diploma might work as well though no guarantee of advanced standing.

Anyway I was randomly looking through my uni's faculty staff profiles and I was quite shocked some of them PHD right away after their Bachelor's degree. I wonder how do they do that. They must be real genius.
*
It's not an uncommon thing. The minimum academic requirement to enter a PhD programme is an Honours Degree so you can do it straight away. A Masters Degree is not really needed.

Anyway, just askin'. Do you guys like having lectures/tutes beginning in the early morning, or during afternoon. Prefer breaks in between or just go through all in one shot?
*
since I live pretty near to uni, I kinda spread out my classes from Monday to Thursday. I get one day off XD
I enrolled quite late leaving me not much choice ahaha but my schedule is pretty good. I'm ok as long as I don't have to start at 8 am XD
I start at 10 and have an hour or so break in the middle to get some lunch then go one shot as much as I can unless the venue for one class is at one side of the uni and another one at another side, I don't want to rush from place to another in just a few minutes ahaha.
I have two lectures like that on Thursday though since I didn't have any other choice that didn't clash >_< I start at two at one side of uni finish the lecture at 3.50 (though usually ends earlier) and rush off to the other side for another lecture.

Please advise regarding Student Visa application:

1. I thought online is not possible anymore?

2. Visa Subclass 573 for undergrad, right?

3. Medical check + X ray before or after applying? This is 100% necessary right?

4. How to demonstrate you have the funds? What is the procedure?

5. Some documents need certification, who/where to get this done?

6. Biometrics, Medical, X Ray, that will be all?

Thank you. I'm contacting the AVAC tomorrow but I wanted to ask here first to clear some doubts... simply too many questions to ask.

QUOTE
All Assessment Level 1 students outside Australia can apply online for their new student visa.

That would include Malaysians.

2. Yes http://www.immi.gov.au/students/students/573-1/

3. Can only be done after applying as you will need your Transaction Reference Number (TRN) for the panel clinic to forward your results to immigrations and also a referral letter generated by the website. For Malaysians being in a country categorized with risks of TB, stuff like an X-ray is necessary for them.

4. There's no need, all you need to do is have an electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE) from your University meaning you have accepted your offer as well as paid a Deposit for first semester fees and OSHC.

5. What documents do you mean? I never had to certify anything.

6. Just apply online and then go for the medical check and wait for good news. Documents you will need to start the application is your passport and your eCoE unless you have some special circumstances this process takes a fairly short time to get your student visa approved if you already have everything.

Ok thanks! I'd like to ask:

1. When you applied online did you have to mail anything (eCOE, photographs etc) in, and if so to AVAC or High Comm?

2. Did you have to upload anything? Are photos with blue background ok?

3. Do you need to have your OSHC certificate before applying?

4. For Med + X-Ray, the referral letter comes from the online app - then I bring along the separate med and x-ray forms?
*
1. Nop everything was done online. The eCoE has a number at the top for you to enter during application and you just need to key in passport numbers all those stuff and declare you have no criminal history etc. Then you will get a TFN and you have to take note of that.

2. I didn't have to upload anything, everything was just typing in information and stuff like yes and no questions. Like do you have criminal history (if yes please attach further information), have you or any of your immediate family have a history of so and so illness (if yes please provide more details) stuff like that.

3. I'm not so sure, I had the university arrange OSHC for me and I paid for it along with the deposit for first semester fees so it's stated on my eCoE that I have Single OHSC Cover valid for the duration of my proposed student visa then.

4. There will be one generated by the website for you, I only brought those referral letter and my passport to the panel clinic for medical examination and x-ray. Brought some passport size photo as well since it mentioned for me to bring some but the people at the clinic just told me to stand at a wall and took my picture with a Digital Camera ^^"

though numbers from MOHE still shows they have the highest amount of Malaysian students and with all the twinning programme and marketing in Malaysia, it won't be going down any time soon I'd think.

OK thanks. Very simple.

Last question - your Visa is electronic? Do you have a physical Visa then?
*
Yes it's an electronic visa. I don't have any kind of sticker or anything on my passport to show that I have a student visa.

Since I can't find any australia thread in lowyat, and this one is the most active, I wanna tumpang thread ask something biggrin.gif

I want to ask something about the banks in Australia. I heard my friend said that, until today, Australia bank doesn't have deposit machine. All transaction in or out, have to be done over the counters, and even counters will took you 2-3 days to clear and show the amount in your bank account. Is that true? @@

Also they don't use smartchip on credit/debit cards. Because using credit/debit cards require additional pin number to authorize the transaction?

So traditional?? =.=!
*
you can always withdraw money at an ATM machine. Last time I banked in cash, the funds were available to my account immediately. If your depositing a banker's cheques etc. then of course it will take a few days to process.

I think most debit cards have chips now.I feel that using a pin is more secure and convenient though. I'd rather have to key in a pin rather than using my signature. You can however opt to sign if you want to.
There's also a lot of places equipped with Mastercard's paypass machines nowadays so if your kinda lazy and is using a compatible card, you can just tap your card and finish the transaction in a few seconds without the need for any signatures or pins.

Hi all! I have received an offer from University of Queensland in Master of Commerce (1.5years), however, I am also interested in Master of Risk Management (1 year) from UNSW because this course is more related to my degree.

Anyone here can give me some advise in this two course?  icon_question.gif

Thanks.
*
think on their relevancy to your future targets. It doesn't matter if the course is relevant to your previous qualification if you don't want to do it or it doesn't help you achieve your future goals.

Can I apply for a Malaysian IC for my child/ lost of Malaysian IC or lost of Malaysian Drivers Licence at the High Commission of Malaysia in Australia ?

No.  You must return to Malaysia to apply in person for the MYKad at a Government Service Centre (GSC). The data will be sent to the National Registration Department HQ before the personalized IC is sent back to the GSC for collection by the applicant. The supporting documents required are a passport, the child's birth certificate and the father or mother's IC. The applicant's thumb print will be taken as well as a photograph.

If you have lost your Malaysian Identity Card or your Malaysian Drivers Licence you must first obtain a full police report from the Police Station at the area where you've lost the documents, you will then need to go back to the Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara in Malaysia to obtain replacement of your Malaysian Identity Card or to Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalanraya (JPJ) to obtain replacement of your Malaysian Driving Licence. Refer to www.jpn.gov.my or www.jpj.gov.my for more information.
http://www.malaysia.org.au/faq.html#ic

If you can't do it at the High Commission, I doubt you can do so at the Consulate.

i am not aware they have now decided to allow internet application for foreigners.......

however, going through the details, there are a few caveats....

you have to apply well in advance, commonwealth bank recommends 6 weeks.....

you have to transfer money into the account within 3 weeks of notification of opening, or the account will be closed....this will need to be done by tt or some sort of international transfers.....and will cost you money.....

you have no access to the account or money until you physically present yourself at the selected branch to verify your identity and activate the account.....

so i guess unless you have plenty of time, are familiar with the place you are going to to nominate a nearby branch, and don't mind paying some money ($11 to credit into your account, plus tt fees here), you may be better off bring a bank draft and some cash....you will have a better idea which bank, which branch, which account will be better for you.....

like i said, oz is pretty slack on this......you will NOT be able to do this in uk.....
*
Well it doesn't really take that long to for your bank account to be approved.
Before I came to aussie, I applied for a bank account with CBA online and they called me with information and confirmation "very early" the next morning~~
Well you would want to transfer some money after opening your account right, why else would one want to open an account in advance. You don't really need to be familiar with the place as usually they'll establish your account that's most convenient to where your going to study so there's not much problem to look for it.
Well what the UK does has nothing to do with aussie right.

many people have no accommodation confirmed till very late, sometimes only after they have arrived........

the location that the bank(or rather CBA in my case) used to consider where to open my bank account is the University and the campus I'll be studying in rather than an address where I'll be living. So it'll be convenient to get to from the university or in CBA's case is present on campus on a lot of different universities. Their trying hard to get international students before they get a chance to get to Aussie and kinda "shop around" for the best option. You can do the same for ANZ as well if memory serves. I'm guessing all the big 4 aussie banks are doing it nowadays.

My parents has done some TT from Maybank to my CBA account a few times for a few thousand dollars and Maybank charges my dad around RM40-50 (don't really remember but it was around that) every time (When I went to a branch to do it once the guy at the counter told me it was a flat rate) and CBA(or whoever) has taken AUD10 from the amount transferred every time we did it. They've sent me from AUD 2000 - AUD 10000 and we get charged the same amount every time.

getting a postpaid cap plan is easy enough, just go in store with all the necessary documents and it'll only take you twenty minutes or so. Getting a prepaid is easy enough and the numbers can be ported easily as well if you want to change later and usually it'll only take a few hours to port or if your unlucky then a few days.

I don't think you can use BPay, never saw the option to do so if there's any. You use paypal or a credit/debit card. Or the old fashioned way of buying the voucher in store.
