hello everybody. i just got xperia 1 from my eldest brother. it is a used set, previously his.
it is my first time using a smart phone. can someone guide me on how to use it.

i'm interested to hv a gps system in it. something like garmin since it is easy to use, do X1 supports it?

it is possible to hv a "facebook" application? what i mean is an icon on the main screen. mine doesnt have it. the way i online in facebook is go to internet explorer (thru wifi) and search for facebook and log in there. ....

First of all, DO NOT EXPECT YOUR X1 TO BE LIKE AN IPHONE. It's probably why your brother ditched this phone anyway. This phone DOES NOT resemble an iphone. It's not as user friendly, there are lags, bugs, hangs. Aside from that, Windows Mobile is a really cool platform to do lots of things you won't imagine being able to be done.

Secondly, I would highly recommend you to flash to a custom ROM for speed, stability, eye candy, you name it.

Before you do anything however, please read the stickies of the forum clearly, follow the instructions step by step and you should be just fine. I recommend EnergyROM, but you can view around to find which one suits you best.

For Facebook application, there is one made by Microsoft, it's included in most ROMs... You can search around for it but I don't recommend using it. It's far too laggy and slow for my liking, I prefer to either use touch.facebook.com or m.facebook.com. Do note that the mobile site has been improved significantly so it's a much better experience to use it compared to last time. The good people over at xda is developing a Facebook application themselves for quite some time now, haven't heard of any big progress.

You can search around for Garmin XT or Papago, TomTom for GPS. Even Google Maps.

I've been using SEX1 for nearly 2 years now, still continuing to learn more about the phone every day.

apparently energyrom is pretty good these days. i also using it on my poor rhodium (spoiled ytd. ).. not bad, soon i need to try energyrom on my xperia also.. haha

yeah lor. i prefer m.facebook.com more. oh yes, any website, please do use opera mobile / opera mini. the IE is pretty useless..

bytheway, this phone my brother bought from singapore, will there be any problem with "flashing to ROM". i just found out the phone is window 6.1 ..it is pretty outdates is it. may i know what is the latest...?

hmm, there is too many branches for winmo6.5, like 6.5, 6.5.3, 6.5.3. practically all comes out from wm6.5. different version has their own speed, features, out look. little bit in different.

theoretically said, still a simple the later the version the better. the latest now? i better dun say as mayb 2mr comes out a new version then.

anyway, flash to any rom is possible so long ur phone is Hard-SPL. so long the rom its build for xperia. no region difference once hard-spl.

Tips: Keyboard with plastic works better with short fingernails.

I'm a classical guitar player and I leave long fingernails.

Trying to keep it as short as possible though.

Don't get X2, it doesn't have developer support.

WinMo without developer support = useless.

X1 is okay, but it's hampered with build quality issues, just read previous threads about the build quality issues. The worst being the keyboard becomes useless after a few months.

Honestly, I would recommend other phones like HD2(highly recommended) or Touch Pro2 if a physical keyboard is absolutely a must for you. But if issues like build quality is not going to bother you, then getting an X1 is definitely better than an X2. In fact, getting any other phones is better than getting an X2.

X2 is the most failed product I've ever seen.

Ok, I exaggerated. It's not THAT bad. But it's really bad, so stay away from it.

hey @xcen, haha. i think our new guys is confused now.. he did asked over at the x2 thread. n x2 thread member told him x2 is better. hahaha..
well, @dong, see it urself. if u dun mind about your money spend. then go X2, of course its the worst choice ever in your life, if u got the budget should buy any of the HTC devices instead. but if u looking something tight budget and but squeeze out at least 200% more than what u paid, the X1 is urs choice. see, RM600 can give u a darn nice 2nd hand x1. but what x1 can do, its a proper PDA standard stuff with packed of good spec (except for the shitty gpu). overrall its good if u know how to tune it best.

x2, why would we said is a bad choice? see, is suppose to be newer than x1, no matter in term of spec or usability. but then, its interface is still sucks, GPU changed but still have compatibility issue (which x1 does as well), driver problem that makes it hogging processor and slow down device. x2 have the same spec as x1, x1 does what x2 can. so why go for x2? go HTC instead.

in short, x1 is the choice (budget, main concern) as u can see how active are we in this thread than others.
