Just applied the sticker to my keyboard.

It seems that the feedback is terrible, can't feel anything when you press on it, and you do need to press on it with a certain amount of force for the key to register. (What I mean is that it's not like capacitive buttons.)

So the keyboard isn't as comfortable as it originally, guess I'm sticking with software keyboard for general messaging purpose while the hardware one will mainly be used during web browsing.

QUOTE(doubleD's @ Sep 13 2010, 11:10 PM)
hello everybody. i just got xperia 1 from my eldest brother. it is a used set, previously his.
it is my first time using a smart phone. can someone guide me on how to use it.

i'm interested to hv a gps system in it. something like garmin since it is easy to use, do X1 supports it?

it is possible to hv a "facebook" application? what i mean is an icon on the main screen. mine doesnt have it. the way i online in facebook is go to internet explorer (thru wifi) and search for facebook and log in there. ....

thanks in advance
*
First of all, DO NOT EXPECT YOUR X1 TO BE LIKE AN IPHONE. It's probably why your brother ditched this phone anyway. This phone DOES NOT resemble an iphone. It's not as user friendly, there are lags, bugs, hangs. Aside from that, Windows Mobile is a really cool platform to do lots of things you won't imagine being able to be done.

Secondly, I would highly recommend you to flash to a custom ROM for speed, stability, eye candy, you name it.
Here's the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=471

Before you do anything however, please read the stickies of the forum clearly, follow the instructions step by step and you should be just fine. I recommend EnergyROM, but you can view around to find which one suits you best.

For Facebook application, there is one made by Microsoft, it's included in most ROMs... You can search around for it but I don't recommend using it. It's far too laggy and slow for my liking, I prefer to either use touch.facebook.com or m.facebook.com. Do note that the mobile site has been improved significantly so it's a much better experience to use it compared to last time. The good people over at xda is developing a Facebook application themselves for quite some time now, haven't heard of any big progress.

You can search around for Garmin XT or Papago, TomTom for GPS. Even Google Maps.

I've been using SEX1 for nearly 2 years now, still continuing to learn more about the phone every day. smile.gif

If you were expecting an iphone, get an iphone.

Tips: Keyboard with plastic works better with short fingernails.

I'm a classical guitar player and I leave long fingernails. sweat.gif

Trying to keep it as short as possible though.

hi...
i'm googling for a new phone. preferably win mob base.
currently eyeing for se x1 or x2. any pro n con for both? anybody?
*
Don't get X2, it doesn't have developer support.

WinMo without developer support = useless.

X1 is okay, but it's hampered with build quality issues, just read previous threads about the build quality issues. The worst being the keyboard becomes useless after a few months.

Honestly, I would recommend other phones like HD2(highly recommended) or Touch Pro2 if a physical keyboard is absolutely a must for you. But if issues like build quality is not going to bother you, then getting an X1 is definitely better than an X2. In fact, getting any other phones is better than getting an X2.

X2 is the most failed product I've ever seen.

Ok, I exaggerated. It's not THAT bad. But it's really bad, so stay away from it.

there is SOFT-SPL rite?
*
You just need to understand that you need to HARDSPL your device.

The technical terms is that softspl is used for testing and also when you are doing hardspl, so technically you're doing a softspl then hardspl when you're doing a hardspl.

Thing is, if you want a custom ROM, you need to HardSPL. Follow the instructions in XDA for hardSPL and you should be fine.

sorry if its seems a stupid question. just new to PDA / xperia x1..
tonight i m doing for HARDSPL.
and its failed. what the.....this microsoft ActiveSync disconnect itself.. about 2-3 mins connected then gone..
*
I have your problem, but only about a year after I bought my phone. I believe this is caused by the micro USB port in the phone, as I plug the cable in and out quite a number of times till the connection is not sensitive anymore.

You can try connecting to it a little harder.

Sometimes it's software issue too, I find restarting my phone and computer works.

Bad build quality. I think add a bit more for a 2nd hand Touch Pro 2 is much much more worth it.

Or even get a budget Android phone.

guys, i am havin issues with my xperia of late. cant seem to hear the person talkin on the other end...tried soft reset, hard reset and updating to the newest rom which is 1.05

speakerphone and other sound features work fine... the other party can hear me as well... is it a registry error or has my earpiece gone bust?

there is also no headphone icon on screen so i doubt there are issues wit the mic jacks
*
Try flashing a new ROM, from a different ROM chef. Or even better, get the stock ROM. If it doesn't help, most likely it's a hardware problem.

anyone tried android on x1?
*
Yes, the only reason to install it is to explore Android only. It's not suitable for daily use at all.

I don't think X1 will ever get the development necessary to see it being able to operate as a daily Android device like the HD2.

Yeah it will come off. Someone stickered the back of my phone before... when I peeled it off some of the paint came with it.

Didn't really matter anyway, my phone was already a wreck then.

Oh and currently I'm using 20th Nov EnergyROM. No SoD at all. Very stable. Though I'm not sure if it's the ROM or that I downloaded nueDynamicClock and changed my processor's speed during idle.

hi everyone.

something to update. i dropped my phone onto water today. was bathing and my phone dropped onto the bath tub. T.T

anyway, i blow it using hair dryer. due to china's super dry weather, it was fine and alright now.

but what i found it, my keyboard definitely become usable now. previously i did the keyboard cleaning tutorial. then later on my i j m x d , these few keys totally not usable. today, after the hairdryer session, i feel that my keyboard now can type 280 words per minute. lol

i blow my xperia from the battery compartment tho.

It seems that the improvement in Android for X1 is not bad. I've not tried it but it's certainly worth the shot when I'm free enough.

just posting to say I got myself a X1 smile.gif

currently using Valkyrie 7.3 ROM

pro:
- HTC Sense FTW biggrin.gif
- Stable enough. Only the keyboard-slide-out-slide-in quickly can cause 'hang'.

cons:
-can eat battery life a bit too quick for my liking. But if the hp on standby mode, can last somewhere around 1.5 day.
*
Valkyrie does not support X1 anymore, so it's a bit outdated.

You might want to try EnergyROM or 826x. EnergyROM is what I'm currently using and it's more feature-packed. Users of 826x claim that the battery life is far superior.

Desire Z's 800MHz processor is faster than older generation 1GHz Snapdragon processors you find in the HD2 and WP7 devices. Still slower than Hummingbird's 1GHz but the 800Mhz processor is much more overclockable.

As for X10, I would say it's a cheap Snapdragon Android, but it really lacks developer support that you would expect if you purchase HTC phones.

Even the Galaxy S is struggling to find a strong developer base, even I was surprised because clearly Galaxy S phones are such good phones in terms of hardware.
