Yea 450D the buttons doesn't suit me. D40 too small for my hands, everytime i shoot half day my little finger sure pain. BTW in d90 if i wan to change the AF point, is it the same with d40 (just click the direction button) or need to change in settings like 450D?

Owhhhh direction button! That's one of the MAIN reason i choose nikon. Easy to change AF point in the middle of a shot. ^^

good luck with your d90 project, i ll try to hunt for a cheap secondhand d90 if not i ll buy a new d90 at rm2900 but not so soon cool2.gif

agreed for the non build in motor group, 35 f1.8 is true meaning of fun for a DSLR
Consider it as a 50mm on a DX same as what the 50mm on a FX.

i see alot of nice 35mm 1.8 selling secondhand at even rm700++ tongue.gif

correct correct drool.gif

people also calling it G lens nowdays, all the new lens are all G means all AF-S for high speed auto focusing

i m a 50mm fans so i really dont mind spending rm1800 for a af-s 50mm 1.4 if i really want it because even though my d80 can surport af-D lens , af-s lens were design to focus much more faster. The build is good even high end dx user spending money on this lens smile.gif

but as i said it before, 35mmf1.8 can cure the poison of 50mm 1.8.

u can use it for almost everything in 35 mm but u have to go real close for portraits

hello , Im very new in this DSLR , I would like to ask .. do a lens effect the picture alot ? do I need a better  Camera Body  or a better lens to take a wonderful picture ?

what is prime lens ? I saw the website which show DX-lens only , izzit the DX lens is a prime lens ? what is the different prime lens and the normal lens ?
*
yes, lens is one of the main thing to give u nice pics.
Prime lens means = no adjusting mm , means u have to move your body into position to frame your target.
Prime lens can use large aperture like 2.8 to 1.2 maximum.
The larger aperture u use, the better bokeh ( blur / out of focus)
U cant consider a DX len prime lens , its more like its design to use only on DX body. = nikon d40/40x/60/3000/5000/70/70s/80/90/200/300/300s

Tell us what body are u using? if you dont know all about this then its too early for u to spend money upgrading. Play with what u have
The kit len provided with together with set is already a nice lens depend on your skill.

usually people use masking but i'm not good at that,so i'll stick to what i know.only simple editing, not that pro on photoshop... sweat.gif
*
google for banhup teh, he;s very good in editting portraits.
In his website, he got show a simple way in using mask to produce nice skin tone for portraits
U can use to same method to edit everything, just play with layer and mask

I m amaze with his skill besides his hardcore equipment.

I m planning to buy his ebook.

Anyone interested to buy please pm me, maybe we could share it although the publisher dont encourage it

In bad economy hehe

I still havent buy any body yet .. I still consider about which one i should buy .. , now comparing.. I mean canon and nikon .. ( dont start )
because I saw youtube , they saying some lens are professional lens , like canon they have the "red" ring on the lens or nikon some how . some model have "DX" on it .. can you guyz pro .. tell me more about it . ?
*
sorry man, this is not a place to talk about which 1 is good

i would say its all about the photographer

Pick your brands and start with it, dont waste time talk about it

What budget and what kind of photography u doing and what camera u have now?

most expensive comsumer DSLR is like rm23k ++ and most expensive lens is more than rm23 k

DOnt talk about what lens nice, just talk about what lens u can afford and what lens u need brows.gif

U dont even know about DSLR, and u say u got 10k of budget?
wasting time here if u dont even have a SLR or maybe a camera
Maybe u can post 1 of your best picture taken by yourself. If not u better go for normal point and shoot camera as they can provide good pics too

18-200 is just a all rounder lens and the picture quality is so so, i would say a cheap kit lens is better than it picture quality wise.

okay suggestion if u really wanna spend money

Nikon D90 = rm3100 body only
Nikon Af-S 50 mm F1.4 G = rm1800
Nikon Af-S 18-200 VR2 = rm2800

this package like rm 7700

so u got another rm 2300 to spend if u wanna buy other lens

u could skip the 18-200 if u buy the d90 with the kitlen at rm 4100++

very true smile.gif that was kind of the reason i bought D40... i plan to learn n improve 1st.. once i feel more confident, then wont feel so guilty to upgrade body later. hopefully when d90 replacement is out, i'll have the skills and money worthy of it hehe
*
aiyooo me finish another rm 320 dry box, d90 plan delay , slow and steady, d90 will come to me, YL keep d90 stock kaw kaw
best selling DLSR at the time being i guess, d300 sensor at the cheap consumer d90.

as a non professional, d90 serve one more than he need. dvlzplayground, u are worthy of holding a d90, i see alot of noobs holding pros like d90/300/d3 that doesnt know anything just because they got the money to spend.

Pardon my noob question yeah..

As i know the D90 had a built in focus motor in it right? If that's the case why not just get cheaper lenses which does not have focus motor built in it.. or does those with built in focus motor in the lense and the body will increase the speed of the focus?
*
as what in reply, besides the focusing speed, af-s lens is good because we can still turn the focusing ring even though we using auto focus.
i worried so much when my fren use my prime lens and try to adjust the focusing ring thinking that its a zooming ring. OMG

AF-D = time to repair or throw away mad.gif

hi guys,

the shooting is still on, dont worry smile.gif

about the shooting on 31/01/10, the location has been changed to damansara park (in front of 1 utama new wing) because this is the only park (in kl & pj) that allow pet to enter. i've done survey at the park, it's a very nice place for photoshooting coz there's man-made little lake, wooden huts, walk way path, and nicely maintained garden.

like what i've told illegaldragon87, we still have our same 2 models, but one of the models is not able to bring her pet. so we'll shoot her only on sunday. another one remain unchanged.

maxh3h3, pls include me in buying the ebook. i've thought of that too but nobody wanted to share with me. now i am so happy to know that you're buying the ebook too smile.gif of course, if possible, get more people to share so that it'll get cheaper - economy of scale smile.gif

another thing, anyone of you heard of Zamrud? he is an experienced photography trainer in photomalaysia.com forum, and he has trained over 3000 students for the past 3 years. pls feel free to check out his works in flickr & photomalaysia forum.

i am in the midst of negotiation with him to hold photography workshops at a discounted price for all of us. normal price for beginner workshop is RM150-RM180 (check out his workshop ad Zamrud), but he agreed to charge only RM100 each for all these workshops - from beginner to advanced. but the only condition is we need to get 20 persons minimum to attend the workshop. are you guys interested?
*
i dont really worry about the dog lol, too many pets on sunday walking around. I only afraid if theres any Muslim photog coming only.

brian, pm me your number for the banhup ebook ok

we must respect his work hehe

Do we really need a beginner class anymore? its really for those who dont know about PSAM only .
I think anyone of us got enough knowledge to show some quick beginner guide on the road thumbup.gif
I may not know much but i ll teach u everything that i know smile.gif

how bout indoor & night shoot?
*
places with low lights require the need of fast lens in order to shoot without the loss of shuttle speed.
best bet would be 35mm f1.8 af-s

If i m not mistaken, flash gun can only manage to reach maximum 105 mm for the high end pro models
longer zoom, i think u should make sure there is light for u to capture.

Art of Photography = skill of capturing lights

even outdoor at noon also u might have problem with 200mm without VC. if ur budget under 1k, u shud go for 55-200 VR, can help a bit.

can consider sigma 18-200 OS HSM, but expensive la like 1.7k i think. i wont beat the 55-200, but at least u dun have to change lenses.

can consider 18-105mm as well, shud be juz slightly expensive than the 55-200.
*
DOnt ever buy the tamron 18-200 without VC man, its terible without the VC, 105mm without the VR is already too hard, i tried 80-200 f2.8 at 200 mm without the zoom (i feel like holding a sniper in warzone of world war one shaking to death)
Best bet would be secondhand sigma 18-200 or the cheap secondhand 18-200 nikkor VR1 or u can top up a little for the tamron 18-270 VC mode that selling hot right now.

i just bought a rm 750 18-105 VR nikkor so i must say i prefer the 18-105 over the 18-135 due to the VR option alone.
VR does help alot. Try prevent 18-200 because it cant give u much quality, what kinda photography are u doing?
When and what are u planning to use it for? Its easier to suggest u something if we know more about u smile.gif

is it 2nd hand 4 rm750? im really like such a outdoor xtvt..like hiking..waterfall..so 18-55 so short that cannot zoom close to a friend in water..huhu that's y i try to get extra zoom lens..
*

yup i bought it secondhand , i dont really like to consider a new stuff nowdays because alot of nice and new secondhand out there.

A photog always move into position thats why they dont give a damn, i understand what u trying to say, are u saying that u trying to get some snap shot of people having fun at the waterfall without getting your stuff wet.

i would say a 55-200 VR or 18-105 VR ( both almost the same price with VR for long zooms)

18-105 is kinda all rounder from scenery to medium zoom for snaps/portrait with some bokeh

55 - 200 is good for everything except scenery cause it cant get wider to cover more in landscape with only 55mm so u can pair it with your kit len.

becareful at the waterfall, its slippery , try to get them to co-operate with u for nice shoots.
I manage to do that most of the time with shooting my frens somersault back flipping onto the water, burst shooting all the way with fast shuttles

i wonder how to grip the dslr to be more steady?

look at how the swat team hold their submachine gun , its basically the same way hehe drool.gif joking

put the cam on your flat left palm, i m using only 2 finger closest to the zoom ring to adjust the range. You can keep the elbow close contact with your body to minimize movement. Same thing about the right hand that fingering the soft shooting button.
I m using the same strategy as i m using a rifle brows.gif

U will feel more comfortable with a battery grip but it will add some weight on your equipment.
