im using that...my installer set that for me

hrm...never experience that.... still got epg using no 18

i really wanted to follow ure tip...but then when i do so...i found out that the component output was distorted...half of the video can see obvious interlaced field while the other half dont... i'm going to call the installer and see what they could do... probably need to change to new decoder got a defected decoder pulak :|

yup...it works... and if u watch SD channels using component, it is much sharper....the scaling chip from my panny is much better than the decoder's ....what a shame

because you are dealing with digital signal...

digital signals are either 0 or 1 [no or yes]

can you see the picture? [no or yes] .... no such thing as yea but a bit snowy, yea but a bit fuzzy etc

its either u see the video or its blank screen... no matter how good the cable is...if the cable cannot show any picture then thats bad...if the cable can show any video then its working...thats it... no such thing as using a rm200 hdmi cable will make ure picture sharper, more vibrant colours, less snow etc etc because the quality is already fixed by astro themselves... u get what they broadcast.

Only component and composite output might matter because its analog...but even then for me i can't see much diff with monster cables. Just get some midrange cables will do...no need to spend hundreds in such cables....(if headphone earphones then you should, depending on how u like the sound )

No no.... the component output is SD, 576i....only 576i.... so when u feed this signal to ure tv, ure tv will know automatically what to do, which is resize it for u.... i feel that resizing done through tv looks sharper...

component and composite resolution is always fixed to 576i... the changing resolution thing only applies to hdmi

Just need to set once... Then plug component input and hdmi input to tv.... when watch SD, switch AV to component, when watch HD switch AV to HDMI.... 2 buttons overall, byond page up down and tv's av button lol

Holy shit...u got the same problem as mine.... top half screen of component got those distorted lines and composite shaking... i thought it was my cable prob....now since you have received the same problem as mine....i can conclude is that lemon decoder... anyway ive called astro...they are assigning a technician for me...

nope tested it already.. time to wrap up this lemon decoder

well this decoder has already some bugs discovered and warned by our fellow byond users (i just used for a day and i've already stumbled upon most problem mentioned... =__=), among those i've came across :

1. when switching channels, suddenly would land on no pic but got sound prob..... but could be solved by switching to other channels and switch back to the desired channel.
2. when switching on decoder, have to press the on button quickly, not slowly... or else the decoder would turn off and on quickly and results in no picture/sound on every channel... the remote is too sensitive i would say
3. when u switch to any channel, and then press the subtitle/language button and press ok, the volume suddenly increases and becomes louder lol.
4. volume on astro remote only works when used in analog output.. else u would need to sync with the tv to adjust tv's volume from astro's remote if ure using hdmi
5. if u usually switch off the main power of the decoder(esp when ure going to bed at night), once turned on, need to wait quite a while before the decoder shows the time, then only can on

6. distorted component and composite output [this one really ticks me off]

why cannot watch? whats the error msg when u go to those AOD channels?

redundant idea for astro max... all channel's audio is crappy heavily compressed mpeg layer 2 audio lol

thats because the component output is distorted.... like mine =___=... another decoder defect issue here, damn

to be honest, the output from hdmi for SD channels are ok la, not much diff from component that its a little more vibrant and sharper.

the reason is simple

vibrant because the SD channels did not go through upscale by the decoder, hence most colour information is retained when not resized. once resize from 576i to 1080i... its such a big difference... colour appear to be less vibrant and a little more dull

sharper because it did not go through scaling again, resize to such a big resolution results in slight blurness that is quite negligible in this case.


Overall, here is the reason why I'd prefer broadcasted resolution instead of 1080i fixed.... because with broadcasted resolution, once tuned SD it will be 576i and the tv will know how to adjust properly... and i have to say the tv resize capabilities of mine is far better than the one inside the decoder box. Of course you might argue will have a blank moment for the tv to adjust the settings, but i'd say i wouldnt mind...better than tuning component for SD and hdmi for HD, even more troublesome since I need to manually change the AV channel on my tv.

Yep... but the stupid decoder dont have such setting.... force u to either live with 576i, 576p, 720p or 1080i...... so yeah were doomed for now lol

i tried that, it didnt work.... i guess this dumb box is a real defect, cant auto update lol

the lan port is locked lol...tried to connect to my laptop, gave me some weird ip and cant connect, but can ping la lol

then tested the usb port...put thumbdrive in no respond but got light up.... i guess it can only work as a charger of devices now LOL
