With Sol back in the team, Vermalean could push up as a defensive mid. hehe

Actually, why wont we just put Fabs at the DM position for awhile? Although it may limit his time going foward, but as a temporary DM, I think Fabs will do ok for few matches before Song come back.

Cause other then Fabs, we do have other attacking option for the midfield position, the likes of Diaby, Rosicky, Nasri and Ashavin will do ok filling the void up front left by Fabs for awhile.

Arsene never showed any intention of moving Vermy to other positions. It's not logical to do so either.

Maybe those who are interested can try it on FM/CM and see whether it works or not. Who knows, it might win you the league in the virtual world... laugh.gif

There's no need to push Fabs backwards. We play with 3 CMs who can interchange well, we just need to make sure that whenever someone bombs forward, there's always a person staying back to shield the defence.

Wah sien... our match is on Sunday, which means 3am Monday for me... cannot watch, have to wake up early dawn to go to work T_T

Guys, don't get carried away with the success of Vermy and then thinking he could replicate the same form as a defensive midfielder. It doesn't work that way. Before we talk about Vermy being DM, do you guys know why Sol was resigned. Its simply because our defence lacks cover and thankfully Gallas and Vermy has stayed clear of any injuries so i must say we're consistent in the defense, bar the injury suffered by Clichy. However, as the season progress and more games are played, this would take a toll on any players and should the unfortunate happen to either Gallas or Vermy, we'll have problems and this is when the experience of Sol comes in.

So base on this logic, do you seriously think AW will wanna take a gamble of playing Vermy in DM. Im not saying it won't happen coz we all don't know what AW is thinking but just simple football, you never ever change a winning combination just to be experimental. You only do it in training games or when you're done to bare bones eg. Man Utd's thrashing by Fulham when they played Carrick and Fletcher as their centrebacks. At this point Song's departure is only temporary, 3 weeks and we've been lucky with the winter storms that forced the cancellation of a game and this allowed Cesc to have an extra week to recover while we missed Song 1 game less.

Coming back to the discussion, Diaby can play as a DM quite decently. So can Cesc and the key to being an affective defensive midfielder in Arsenal is to hold the ball well and distribute it. I think Cesc is probably one of the best in distributing and of coz holding ground. He may not dominate the midfield like Vieira and Petit used to do, but he's effective in holding ground. Similarly, Song never really dominate the midfield by throwing in tackles that Vieira did but he makes it up with some neat footworks and hardly loses the ball and distributes it really well.

Yes, like you guys, i question Diaby's ability to hold the ball well if he played DM. The way i see it, Diaby's main ability is to run rings around defenders with his tricky and long feet and attack the penalty box from deep. Plus, Diaby is not exactly the best ball distributor. For that matter, i think Cesc would be decent as our makeshift DM, but ultimately, Denilson would still be the main choice until Song returns. If Cesc do play down, this would make room for Ramsey to show what he's got to offer and Ramsey's showed some fine form, in the few games he played for us and he's got the goals to show in the first place. In 2-3 years time, it would be interesting to see Ramsey and Cesc fighting to be the fulcrum of the team.

What Vermaelen is to Arsenal today is just about the same as Vidic to United last season.
I wonder what MU fans think of him now..

He'll need to be consistent and help arsenal to lift titles(UCL, BPL) as well.

damn!!we have an injury crisis in midfield...denilson,ramsey and wilshere are out!only Fabs has recovered from his injury...this means there is no proper DM for the game against bolton 2mrw....i think diaby would be asked to play a more defensive role in the Bolton match.... sweat.gif ....and in other bad news Bendtner has shown no signs of recovering early frm his groin injury....damn3!!!i think AW should find a target man striker really soon....
