Yeah, agreed that Senderos is abit of a sad case. I thought he was an alright defender that would learn the trade in Arsenal and eventually be our top defender. Plus, he has a great jump and is brave too. Couple of years back when Senderos started playing for us, we had a good 10-12 unbeaten matches run towards the end of the season where Senderos was playing for us and he very nearly kept a clean sheet for us almost every other match. But now, he's even lower than Silvestre as you mentioned. I really can't find a reason why, except maybe he played zero amount of games in Milan and lost his match fitness entirely and possibly his confidence too. I have a gut feeling Senderos's loan to Milan has got something to do with Flamini's transfer too. Maybe they wanted to package him with Flamini. Some kinda disposal transfer i guess.

But i think his problem isn't so much of the lack of pace, its his positioning as a defender. And for a guy as huge as him, he lacks the physical part of a defender and evidently, he was constantly bullied by Drogba and it didn't help when he played against Drogba like 2-3 matches, all of which Drogba's goal came from the tussle with Senderos. Comparing with Cygan, i think he's a bit better. Cygan offered literally nothing and its no surprise he didnt last more than 4 seasons with us.

Anyways, i hope Senderos finds a club that needs his service and i really do hope he gets regular games. He's been truly a professional for Arsenal and its a pity he didnt improve as fast as he should.

Senderos was one of my favourite underdog. He doesn't have the fancy skills, nor the physical built. He just clears the ball and win the aerial header. I still remember his bleeding head and the bandag after that. Really a brave defender. I was dissapointed when he was loaned out to milan, but then I was hoping he will return someday to Arsenal again. So sad to hear he is dropping down the pecking order. Nice lad.

Cygan was a weird case in the sense that he won the POTY in France before coming over. He actually wasn't that bad apart from being slow, and he has a sweet left foot that made accurate short passes to the midfield. I suppose his worst moment would be the cameo on the wings which led to Saha's equaliser after Titi scored that scorching rocket from Reyes's square pass, but his best would be the brace he grabbed vs Fulham where he could have had a hat-trick if Kolo had not blocked his final attempt on goal. Maybe he just didn't suit our team, or maybe we just bought him at the wrong time as he started to decline.

Sendy's nightmares against Drogba would forever be remembered and used against him as evidence that he couldn't subdue good strikers, but honestly tell me which defender didn't find it hard to play against Drogba? I don't think his loan to Milan had anything significant to do with Flamini as the latter left on a free transfer, but maybe it was just an opportunity for us to unload him somewhere since we were already in contact with them.

We truly are paper thin at the back. We've been lucky that Vermy-Gallas has played in nearly every match but the fears of injury or suspensions will always loom around our heads. Silvestre is the only available backup (excluding Sendy) before we need to call upon the youngsters like Bartley. The fullback position suffers from a similar problem, where we've only got Bak and Traore for the moment. I'm not sure how Arsene is going to manage this during the January transfer window - maybe a loan deal for a versatile utility man but we haven't seen him do loans for a defensive player.

Huntelaar? Thanks but no thanks. Good news for me IMO.

Reason is simple. If we were still on the 4-4-2 formation I'd snap him up in a heartbeat. However our current 4-3-3 and style does not suit him at all. If we were to buy a striker it would have to be someone in the RVP mould as well. We need someone who can drop deep with a first touch and ball retention skills as good as RVP. A striker that can play in teammates as good as RVP does as well as someone quick enough who can keep up with our attacking midfielders to join in the attack after releasing the balls from deep.

Don't get me wrong I do still rate Huntelaar as one of the best finishers around but he just simply won't fit in.

Its no coincidence that Arsene still persists with Andrey down the middle even with Dudu fit.

a little bit of team news regarding 2morrow's match...AW will rotate the team n give a chance to the backup players 4 the match 2morrow....in the star newspaper he even went on to say that the BPL is more important than the fa cup so he will give some of the fringe players a run out....
