I stil confuse regarding the currency selection. I know some website only charge USD. But for those like Hotel.com and agoda, they got option selection. If I select RM, so my CC will charge only RM? or they still charged us USD base on on their RM convert to USD.

Last time it was possible to select to pay in USD or RM (when the system detects your credit card is issued in Malaysia) but this option is no longer available now. It always automatically bills you in RM and the foreign exchange rate quoted by Agoda is always so high shakehead.gif

even though the site has currency option, as long as the payment gateway is in usd, they will charge in usd. then exchange rate comes into play, usually bank's rate slightly higher.

if worry then buy from local OTA, this pyo travel is local co

No. That's not true. Not especially if you're using a Maybankard VISA or MasterCard.

Is it ? We've done the comparison many times over at the credit card subforum and Maybankard VISA/MC provide an unbeatable rate.

I am not sure if Agoda bills all the hotel rooms they sell in USD but for those hotel rooms from countries such as Thailand, Taiwan and Brunei, they do bill their customers in USD. Back in those days when we can choose to pay Agoda in USD (exchange rate to be determined by your credit card issuer bank) or MYR (during the last stage of the checkout process, when it detects your card is issued in Malaysia), the converted rate (MYR) is always higher than Maybank VISA/MC. Not only so, the converted rate is even higher than HSBC VISA/MC and HSBC is known not to give a very favourable final converted amount for transaction made in foreign currency. There were a few times that i used a HSBC credit card to pay them as i can get #% discount from the hotel room rate. I always chose to settle the bill in USD last time (when the option was still available) and also wrote down the converted rate done by Agoda itself, HSBC's final converted amount is always cheaper than the rate i was shown by Agoda.

I use agoda several time.No problem at all!.
Never worry about the charging as i always converted it to MYR currency.
So i have no currency conversion issue as the amount shown are in MYR.

The "jumlah keseluruhan" is the amount that you need to pay...no extra charges...unless at the hotel later u request additional bed, food and beverage etc etc

If the website allow u to write guest name different with CC name then should have no problem..

If u are still afraid, then photocopy your CC (Front & Back with the CVV blackout) and also IC give the guest to bring to hotel.

I have experienced the same issue with Agoda before. Emailed them before the booking/ trip and they said, yes it is allowed.
But when I checked in with the hotel, they made a bit of fuss but eventually still allowed me to check-in. Not a pleasant experience, I'd say.

Just to be safe, I agree with Wacky-angel. Just photocopy the CC and bring it along.

I've booked hotel rooms for my parents before but this is for a hotel in Bangkok. They didn't have any problems when checking in.

I think at the bottom of the credit card menu, they have one column stated if the booking name is the card holder or not. Meaning, the person who check in is not the credit card holder.

I made several booking for my mother in law hotel in Sarawak and Langkawi, so far so good. They allowed my mother in law to chk in even though she is not the credit card holder.
