sien... cimb bank customer service no one..... waited for 20min still on hold... want to cancel card...
edited to add..... want cancel cost so much on my phone bills.....

It's only the beginning. All cc call centres will be deluged with cancellation requests when approaching 1-1-10. Apparently not all the calls could be entertained.

QUOTE(MilesAndMore @ Dec 2 2009, 02:20 AM)
I was told it is not possible with HSBC. I have both VISA and Mastercard from them and i have never used my Mastercard since approved. Now that with this RM50 tax to take effect very soon, i was thinking of canceling my VISA but my request to move the rewards points earned using my VISA has been denied. BUMMER !!  cry.gif
*
Most banks would allow you to combine the points if they are under the same reward programme. I am not sure about HSBC but if you are holding conventional HSBC cc and HSBC Amanah cc respectively, it is confirmed that reward points from the these 2 cards can't be combined as they are different entities.

QUOTE(MilesAndMore @ Dec 2 2009, 02:20 AM)
Yeah. I suppose so. Standard Chartered VISA Infinite is way more exclusive. I believe it is no longer open for general application and all future VISA Infinite cardholders must be a Priority Banking customer. I could be wrong but the original VISA Infinite has been taken off their website and it is showing only the one with Priority Banking embossed on the top left.
*
I am going to cancel my SCB VI soon. I don't find the benefits attractive to me, except the 5x choice points in overseas. With this, I think the CL of my SCB JustOne Titanium will be reduced significantly from X-digit to Y-digit.

QUOTE(zenquix @ Dec 2 2009, 08:31 AM)
I am guessing the gap in time is quite small as I did not receive a statement even though I redeeemed points a few days before. But then I canceled at Masjid Jamek branch which is just next to the card centre lol.
*
A cc is only considered cancelled when the card centre has officially terminated the cc.

anymore banks offer subsidy for RM50 other than MBF? does mbf offer cash rebate or annual fee waived?
*
QUOTE(Aeon_Clock @ Dec 2 2009, 11:03 AM)
no bank has offered RM50 rebate/subsidy on the gov tax except for isolated cases like a Platinum card holder was waived of the GST and another cardholder was given RM50 voucher. What bank is giving subsidy? I haven't heard of any.
*
It has been CONFIRMED that MBF is subsidising the RM50 service tax. It is being announced in MBF's website.

Correct me if I'm wrong but this promotion (based on the advertisement) is only for "Power Balance Transfer". NOT application of new credit card or subsidy for current customers. Means if you do not apply for Power Balance Transfer, there is no RM50 subsidy.

Btw, did you see this on the T&C of Power Balance Transfer?
*
Yes, I guess the RM50 service tax absorption is only for those opt for BT plan. They also impose stringent T&Cs in order to gain back from what they subsidise. What a cunning strategy!

Indeed. Its called marketing gimmic. It is everywhere...you need to be careful with other promotions as well. Always check the terms and conditions before you apply for anything. Do not fall for the pretty sales promoter laugh.gif I myself got tricked enough by promotions...

No worries. I have never trusted and tried BT, PL, cash advance and easy payment scheme. There is no free lunch in this world.

On a different note, has anyone seen this declaration of service tax by UOB?

*I can say that i may be a tough case lol*

Thanks
*
I suggest you try to apply through sales agents, as they are desperate and hungry for sales now. Also, they will go all out to ensure your application is approved so that they can get the commission.

You may try to go through a few more agents, especially those promoting in hypermarkets and shopping malls. Tell them frankly your requirements and problems. However, it can't help if your record is too bad.

ALL cards can be used in Singapore. You should look at those with lower admin charge for currency conversion.

Read the Q6, and the A6.

It would be better to get the official confirmation from the government directly.

I know the current 0% BT for 6 months is quite an interesting deal. However, BT plan is just not my cup of coffee as banks will normally charge a heavy penalty if you miss a single payment. Moreover, with the re-emergence of Dubai debt crisis, I dare not touch stock market now and I would rather invest in defensive investments like FD and property in Malaysia.

QUOTE(Gen-X @ Dec 3 2009, 02:38 AM)
You have SCB JustOneCard that's why  tongue.gif Actually I do like CIMB/DA MC because their cards are truly FOC and always have special offer at MPH and get 2% petrol at all petrol stations (which I use at Petronas) and offer discount at some of the food outlets I go to. The BIG negative part of CIMB/DA is that they charges courier fees for delivery of item with reward points redemption, I am fortunate that I can drop by their HQ to collect and save the fees.
*
My JustOne cc reached the max rebate limit in 2 months so currently this card is temporarily not with me. And now, I have to use other rebate cards like Alliance and Amex Gold cc.

As for the concern over courier charges for CIMB/DA, I guess you will spend more (time, petrol, parking and car service) if you personally go to their HQ in Damansara Heights to collect the redemption items. biggrin.gif

The tension is getting intensified as more and more people are cancelling their cards. One has to make sure that the card is officially cancelled as banks can always argue that they have never received your instruction for card cancellation.

The best solution is to get a letter of confirmation of card cancellation from the respective bank. From my experience, CIMB, HLB and Alliance can provide the letter but Citibank refused to reply in B&W.

Most banks require a cooling-off period before you can reapply for cc from them.

QUOTE(kei18kun @ Dec 6 2009, 09:56 PM)
another question im pondering is whether to keep Hong Leong bank essential card with 1% fixed rebate unlimited or Alliance's younique card with up to 2% rebate and points. Because i use roughly RM500-1000 per month. any advise?
If your monthly expense is RM1000, both cards will give you more or less the same rebate. For instance, if you use Alliance Younique for spending of RM1000 per month, you will receive a rebate of RM6 which is 0.6% in proportion to the tier rebate rates. If you add the reward points from Alliance which is equivalent to about 0.42%, the total rebate for the RM1000 spent is 1.02% and is similar to the 1% rebate offered by HLB Essential. However, only transaction costing more than RM50 will be entitled to the 1% rebate from HLB Essential, whereas you can get rebate for any amount spent from Alliance Younique. Meanwhile, HLB's CS officers are somehow more responsive and experienced than Alliance's staff.

“The concern lately is that not all banks are willing to absorb service taxes although they may issue credit cards free of charge,” the source said, stressing that banks might only be willing to absorb the tax for high spenders and prompt payers.

On whether there would be many cancelling their cards come year end, the source said the government expected cancellation of cards to be minimal as principal card holders might only cancel unused credit cards to avoid the tax.

This article appeared in The Edge Financial Daily, December 7, 2009.[/spoiler]
It is the second week of December already and it looks like banks are waiting for each other to take action. I have to cut 2 cards by end of this week.

If i'm not mistaken, Hong Leong Bank has done away with the minimum RM50 swipe in order to be eligible for the 1% rebate during the relaunch a few weeks back.
HLB may have already removed the minimum amount requirement, but petrol purchases are still not included. Also, your total monthly expenses (excluding petrol purchases) must be more than RM100 in order to be eligible for the cash back.

I don't see any differences. The most important privileges that is important is whether they accept or not accept our card. If they accept my internationally-unknown EON, then that is good enough privileges we need. And that's the main reason I will be cutting my AMEX.
*
I have just done some banking transactions in a small Maybank branch at PJ. I saw a CS officer processing a stack of card cancellation forms with Maybank CCs attached. I noticed Amex cards too, including Amex Gold CCs and Amex Plat charge cards. The officer revealed that most probably the bank won't absorb the service tax and she has been receiving more than 20 card cancellation request forms per day since late last month. cool.gif

Just stick to the card you applied for. To be frank, both CCs are not so great in terms of benefits given. If you have already got MC, then you should get a VISA, and vice versa.

You can personally link your cc to Alliance online banking. However, it won't take effect immediately.

Anyone can confirm this? If yes, then I probably don't have to cancel my cards so fast.
No one can give confirmation on this, except the GOVERNMENT.

DA is very "efficient"... I cancelled my cards at Penang branch 3 weeks ago... yesterday called helpline... need to wait for 5-10 minutes... then they tell me my card is still active. Then I question why so long still have not cancel. Then they tell me I can actually cancel DA by calling in. They will block and then close the card account.

I'll call back again in few days to check the status...
No surprise. biggrin.gif Yesterday I went to a Maybank branch and I saw a CS officer who was trying to key in the details of card cancellation forms into her computer system. The first form I noticed was dated "26-11-09".

(Actually I'm rather amused that they mentioned that have no problems with credit card cancellations. In fact they are very optimistic with customer base growth for next year)
Some banks are too ego to admit weaknesses. They just want to create a feel-good factor to lure customers. Customers nowadays are immune to this kind of news. smile.gif

You may try to call their Platinum hotline.

QUOTE(MilesAndMore @ Dec 9 2009, 12:19 AM)

If it is a personal email, I think he/she is only a sales representative/consultant engaged by the bank and hence not an employee of the bank. Why don't you complain about this agent to the bank?
