Chelsea defend skipper Terry over tabloid sting
Chelsea have defended captain John Terry after allegations that he took secret cash payments to lay on a behind-the-scenes tour of the club's training ground.
But the Premier League leaders admitted they would be beefing up security after the revelations in a Sunday newspaper.
It is alleged that the England skipper arranged the backstage visit by an undercover reporter without permission from manager Carlo Ancelotti.
But a Chelsea spokesman said: ''Chelsea FC host a large number of visitors at the training ground throughout the year, the majority of which are made up of club sponsors, our charity partners and supporters.
''The players play a big part in these visits and John Terry naturally has a leading role, hosting a significant number of children and their families this season through our partner charities 'Help A London Child' and 'Right To Play.'
''John has also organised a number of visits for families with sick children as a result of personal correspondence.
''Contrary to media reports and the appearance of edited video this morning the club is confident that at no time did Terry ask for or accept money in relation to visits to the training ground.''
The News of the World claimed that £160,000-a-week Terry took a £10,000 payment, £8,000 of which he wanted to go to the 'Make A Wish' charity for children with the other £2,000 going to a middleman.
Chelsea, however, deny any wrongdoing and say they will be stepping up security procedures.
The statement added: ''Chelsea FC gives our players room to exercise their own discretion when contacted personally with regard to visits and the club keeps security and access to the training ground at Stamford Bridge under constant review.
''However, as a result of the security breach highlighted by today's article we will be further reviewing access to our facilities and clamping down where there are gaps in the process.''
Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti insisted he had ''a lot of confidence'' in Terry after Blues had drawn 1-1 against West Ham at Upton Park.
Ancelotti played down the allegations, claiming: ''This is not correct. This is not true. The club, me, the players, have a lot of confidence in John Terry and John Terry did nothing wrong. He was very quiet, very calm, very concentrated for the game. No problem.''
When asked whether Terry had told him the story was not true, Ancelotti added: ''Yes. I have a lot of confidence in my captain.''

joe cole is clueless he cant dribble, he cant shoot, he cant do anything with the ball. all i can say is, he is overated. we need a better AM, thats it. our attacking just doesnt work when there is kalou upfront, carlo made a smart move by changing him with sturridge, which i think the guy looks promising. zhirkov did a stunning job, he made a lovely run and had a good attempt on goal.
ashley doing a fantastic job back there despite the pens, petr the great also proving that he is still the best shot stopper in the world. overall our players look tired, i cant see the hunger anymore. we need to buckle up and concentrate. drogba and anelka need each other, by looking at our display last night i REALLY think that we probably cant survive this january.
we need to buy this transfer window and making the right transfer could be the difference between winning and losing the title. i'd take anyone right now. anyone consistent who can shoot the ball or take on a defender and actually beat his man, not run around him and lose the ball. stop saying our team is complete and we dont need to buy any player carlo, because you know what happen last night.
Joe cole isn't overrated. You should have watched him playing before he got this "long term" injury which caused him to stay out for about 1 year. He was one of the best dribbler which is why he was fielded in various positions like right, centre and even left for england. He was part of mourinho success where you see players like damien duff, shaun wright phillips were even offloaded. Robben and Cole were regulars in right and left flank then. He even scores outrageous goals from centre of midfield.
He'll take his time to recover back his old form.
An old video of him:
Just search on youtube and you'll get plenty videos of him.

lol come on, why are you guys feeling so low on morale? look at the bright side, we still have a 4 point lead. let's not dwell too long on the past if we are to win the title this year. let's look forward and start winning again.
we're up next against birmingham right? currently the club in top form right now..
im cool bro i know that, as long as we gain points rather than losing im good. as long as we're ahead but some consistency is required. i just fear the lack of ambition and mental strength from our players.

Probably you don't if u have watched him in and out since he joined chelsea or even before that
You probably started to pay attention on him since he recovered from his long term injury.
he's been my idol since he wear a blue. and i've been watching him and follow his career before and after he got the long term injury. i think you misunderstood what im trying to say just now. after he got back from the long term injury, he's been hype too much by carlo and the media.
