Lampard not performed? i think he stick to CA plan impressively. Thats why you see why CA said LAMPARD IS THE KEY .. Hes more on the DM/MF mode while JoeCole and Deco spearheading the attack. and hes withdrawing any intention form man-marking him..so MANU is clueless who is the real engine of the team. He's more less like KAKA in AC -Free Role ..or Gattuso marking Ronaldo / Lampard Marking Berba.. so..the jobs done.

that is right, you might not see lampard infront that much last night but he was very disciplined and yes, lampard was key to our solid defense. if we were to bombard down as usual, we will so obviously be punished by united if lampard hadn't stick to the plan.

about controversial or not, there are far worse controversial wins and usually we are the victims. so a win is a win.

yes ohaiyo, the war isnt over, i'd be pissed if the boys think that we've already got the title. they better work their socks off another five games and snatch away your title!

i think zhirkov was man of the match for me last night. he defended very well and bombarded down very well too. ashley and essien was there and im sure ashley want wait to get back, his position is in danger smile.gif zhirkov was really good for me last night. second behind i think was joey cole and malouda. aside from the goal scored, he tracked back and help defend the right flank. malouda did not score but he was causing all kinds of havoc and also defended well. i think the only player that did not impress was alex. he missed a few very important tackles. but overall i think the whole team played really well last night, we deserved the 3 points. now lets hope the in form man city will do us a favour.

Actually, the actual Chelsea fan base is still small comparatively to other big 4 clubs. I think those who were cheering for Blues were Arsenal and Liverpool fans as well. Haha

i would also give credit to FERREIRA, ZHIRKOV, MIKEL, ALEX, although they dont get to play much but when call upon they step out and get the job done.

he took a knock in the pompey game and is not 100% match fit. so he gets 30 minutes on the field. which was eventually enough to take out the devils.

MONUMENTAL win. that's all i can say. but like others have pointed out, the war is still far from over. some controversial decisions, but the ref was quite poor for both sides imo. i've lost count of how many times the officials have got something wrong which worked against us. and that's only this season. its good to see at least sometimes we don't get the shorter end of the stick.

i read some comments on utd's thread, and can't help but notice its very familiar to what we were waxing lyrical about after last season's semi-final 'disgrace' vs barcelona. i certainly recall a good number of utd fans who made their way to the chelsea thread declaring we didn't do enough to 'merit a win' in the first place. well now they know how it feels when the tables are turned. its no fun when officials mess things up for your team is it?

on to some match analysis. joey's flick was worthy of being the winning goal in itself, and what a joy it was watching him track back, and provide some neat passes coupled with aggression in midfield. malouda was his usual self, albeit with a more defensive minded role. he got in the crucial assist, and never stopped working for the team. lamps had a disciplined role as well, with a lot of closing down and hassling of utd's midfield, but still had the guile to pick out good passes. mikel was rock solid throughout, and i counted only ONE momentary lapse of concentration when he didn't track fletcher's run which amounted in a wayward shot from park.

deco was brilliant. watch the game again, and only then will u appreciate how much he brings to the team when he's on form. subtle flicks, classy deliveries out wide to stretch play, and good closing down of anyone who was nearby. it really was the full package from our much maligned portugese and as they say, he rolled back those years admirably.

nico wasn't quite at his best, but his constant drifting around utd's defence helped to open up space for the others, and most importantly he showed good spirit. oh and had that penalty be given, we'd be showering him with even more plaudits! didier and kalou came on to devastating effect, with the former winning practically all the aerial battles when he came on. credit to kalou for the assist, which didier finished superbly from a tight angle.
ballack did what he had to do and took the sting out of the game, with his 'ball-holding' skills clearly highlighted in retaining possession between his thighs, before being fouled by giggs. laugh.gif

yuri was surprisingly good in defence, but had to curb his attacking instincts a little. the park incident comes to mind, but contact was made outside the box and park did make a meal out of it. ferreira was consistent, and could've had a goal after a beautiful through-ball from joey early in the second half. good defensively as well.
alex and terry didn't put a foot wrong the whole game. fantastic 90 mins for both.

my one and only complaint is about cech. flapped at a cross which could've ended up in a goal, and had no business trying to palm away nani's cross when JT and alex were both just waiting to clear the ball. like i said, watch the replay, and you'll realise both mistakes could have cost us dearly. as it stands it didn't so all is forgiven till the next match!
KEEP THE BLUE FLAG FLYING HIGH!

p. s : krk24 u need to curb your enthusiasm. no need for the unnecessary goading at their thread when we've won squat. keep it civil as they have every right to rant down at their base, just as we do at ours.

Pressure is on us now, the title is ours to lose. Man Utd and Arsenal will be waiting for us to slip up, esp when our run-in is much much tougher than theirs (esp at this stage).

Spurs and Liverpool will be exceptionally tough, although I do hope that we will already have the title sewn up by the time we play Liverpool.

kerpy, i cant agree that alex did not put a foot wrong. i think alex was overall quite good but it wasnt one of his better days. i saw him making a few tackles which did not connect, could have cost us. he should have handled park instead of yuri coming in for a tackle, could have conceded a penalty.

yeap, they can rant all they want in their thread about how drogba celebrated the offside goal and but who doesnt, macheda proudly celebrated his handball goal too. and also once upon a time a certain ronaldo who often dived to win penalties also celebrated. smile.gif

hopefully the boys will work their socks off and bring the momentum into the next game. hopefully united and arsenal will slip up while we gain more points.

'I preferred to play him at the end of the match when he would be fresh and he did well. 'It is not important to start the game. It is important to play in the game and play well. 'Nicolas [Anelka] played 60 minutes, Didier 30 minutes. Maybe next time Didier can play 60 minute and Nicolas 30 because they are both fantastic strikers.' - cfc.com -

i think both anelka and drogba are fantastic strikers. anelka with his pace and tricks can cause lots of problems for the opposing defenders. drogba with his great finishing and strength. of course, who said they can't play together? they got different skills and attributes but remember, they are both true professional world class player. i can't see any reason why would world class player can't play together. i hope this is the season which we will get our hands on the premiership title. blue is the colour. go go chelsea...!!!

earlier in the season they proved that they could play together and we were winning alot of games quite convincingly but now it seems that playing one of them at a time is the better option

well yeah. that's the difference playing 4-4-2 and 4-3-3. last saturday, we were using 4-3-3 formation which is the favourite formation since mourinho era. it works well especially in home games where we are looking to attack and strecth the opposition backline. 4-4-2 is compact and it will make the midfield area quite crowded. when using 4-3-3, there are some space on the pitch, we using wingers (malouda and joe cole) to supply good crosses in for either drogba or anelka. both formations are good but for me, ancelotti got his tactic and decision right against man utd. good job...!!!
