how big the 260M anyway? did u take any picture?

yes bro I did. Will post pics in an hours or two's time. Got some work now....

Added on January 6, 2010, 2:22 amHere is a shot from the Game Batman: Arkham Asylum in the bonus feature menu. You can see there is some defects in the picture. This normally is the 1st step before the notebook freezes and Blue Screens...

From a closer view, you can see how severe it is.

The Old GPU with the suspected oily surfaces which could be thermal residue. When the temp reaches 76celcius, I have to be ready for a possible hang.

The new NVidia GTX 260M GPU.

Comparisons between the old (Left) and the New (right) GPU.

Ever since the GPU Change, I have been trying my best at gaming in different conditions. So far, the temp went as high as 85celcius but no hang at all, and after an update of the BIOS, There is so far no problems with the M15x after the operation. I am keeping my fingers crossed as usual....

thanks Maxwell.

Seems to be holding up well as my max gaming temp is 90 celcius and alls going fine.

Engineer yesterday told me, a customer who owns an Alienware Desktop Area-51 called in to service SLI Gpu issue. No engineers were prepared for this as even in training, they have not learnt for this model. So they went ON-Site for extended observation , and learnt everything at Customer's location before proceeding.

the oil 260m looks scary. lol
*
haha. I was shocked, and so was the engineer too....

Normally when my gaming temp reaches 76-80 celcius, I will start having problems..well thats the situation the last few times I encountered the BLUE SCREEN. Now at 90celcius, having exceeded the previous temp considerably, I am satisfied with the changes.... but as usual have to monitor for a few more days. Too bad Street Fighter 4 cannot play due to the ENTER key issue. Brought my old external keyboard from hometown but that thing was faulty...... doh.gif

my temp max around 67 only bro... playing mw2 full load.. even without cooling pad and without aircon..
*
really kar? Hmm.... that I better monitor more. Cos normally my games will reach 68celcius to 72celcius but with the old GPU and with air-con ON cos I was scared of the game freezing. Then with the new one I told myself I will stress the card to the highest setting it can take and play for hours without air con, without cooling pad and without fan. My room was getting warm at that time, but GPU Fans was blowing hard. How do I check if the fans are running at their max RPM?

Woah new alienware? they already got 15 and 17 incher.....dun tell me they'll be coming out with an ultraportable 14 inch gaming laptop maybe with mobility hd4650 xD.

Nope, I didn't get to keep the GTX Card. The engineer took it back, as proof of replacement to DELL..... whistling.gif

Why sad? More mobile, Prolly not as powerfull. But then again, the M15x is the more mobile version of the M17x with only 1 GPU .... If the new MOBILE Alienware comes with a Single GTX 280M then I will feel a bit sick. If not I'm happy with mine..... smile.gif

yep. you want mobility, just be prepare to sacrifice the performance. icon_rolleyes.gif
heavy gaming on 13-14"? can heat produced by high end processor and GPU will be manageable with that size ?
plus i kinda prefer at least 15" for gaming. and in HD some more brows.gif

anyway, just wait and see smile.gif
*
True, performance would have to be sacrificed and in terms of overall enjoyment on a smaller screen? I think that would take a dip as well. But then some people are ok with 14" screens so it should appeal to them...

Bigger notebooks for gaming is still the logical steps for attaining the maximum hardwares nowadays can offer. Your 17" is not obsolete at all being able to take in 2 GPU's. This mobile one might be different in the sense it comes with SSD as standard.... less lights.... and maybe even different materials on the surface which might not be good news for heating...

QUOTE(Azurika @ Jan 6 2010, 09:41 PM)
actually is just getting used to the weight , at least thats for me.  I dont really feel it that much after carrying it  around for a month @@ i didnt get d sager 18" because it cost way more then my m17x and its design sux for ME  laugh.gif

with a 21' lappy , no nid for monitors  brows.gif
*
21" is a Behemoth and I doubt I'd be comfy lugging that around not forgetting finding a bag which can even take 3/4 of it in tongue.gif ... It might weigh 7kg, and cost a bomb, and we'll be sweating just thinking about lugging such a big expensive target on our backs... laugh.gif

anyway update on my problem.

- good news is, dell technician came to clean the dust inside my lcd.  icon_rolleyes.gif
- bad news, dell provide the technician with wrong part. it supposed to be lcd screen + plastic monitor frame in 1 piece instead of lcd screen part only.  doh.gif

so he will come again tomorrow to replace my lcd whole piece instead cuz its impossible to clean the dust since the lcd screen is glued to the frame.  sweat.gif

conclusion, the dust is not my fault.  whistling.gif
will upload pictures of the dust and process when the technician open up my lappy. its quite scary juz becoz of single tiny dust, have to open almost everything.  rclxub.gif

Haha... imagine what I had to go thru .... TWICE Somemore.... ;P

Thats why I wanted to be there when they did the service so I knw they din drop anything.....

The only thing as a M15x user I'd envy about the netbook is the addition of the HDMI there and the exclusion of it on the M15x.....

notworthy.gif notworthy.gif HAIL SCREEMO For the great review!!!!! notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

I didn't know they have a compartment that cuts off all wireless signals. Cool. And the overall detail and finish to the zipper and padding looks of high quality...

NICE!!!

EVEN if the wireless shield covers the whole bag, just the thought of the existence of Laptop Detectors puts me off from ever leaving my notebook inside my car.... I'd go with Screemo regarding the frequent fliers idea. Damn, the bag just shoutsout ALIENWARE!!!! LOL.....

BTW, yesterday a friend of mine asked me about my M15x and its performance, he kept on saying that I could have gotten a Sager. But then I told him Alienware is a whole package, with better aesthatics i feel. With the accompanying accessories it like welcoming you into their family or species tongue.gif .... But then he was refering to the 18" behemoth. I told him thats a different class, competes with the M17x... hehe... but then again I never knew the existence of an 18" Sager. Sorry for the OffTopic....

@kelvin

The last time I did it was I restarted the pc, at starup I presses F8 then went to repair computer. From there a new menu with 5 selections and at the bottom most is the DELLSAFE program which restores the pc to its original state. However my partitions were untouched.....

@Docter

I feel so too. Alienware wouldn't want too many models cluttering their small form factor models. There already is a balance with an 11", 15.6" and a 17" .... All seems fine.... smile.gif

probably need to arrange for a motherboard replacement, technician will come for service by tomorrow, and of cos the warranty is still valid, u can make a google search, see how many m15x owners are making noise there for refund and replacement, and some of them are very angry for that... if Dell is not going to reponsible for that, i cannot predicting what is going to happen, imho, bios update is necessary as it fix all the drawbacks from the previous bios, and this was the mistake by Dell and they have pulled the previous bios version and replace it with A02 now on their website, and it is not logic saying we are only eligible to do the bios update when we are instructed.
*
I agree. I think if they can put it up there, means that the BIOS Should be stable and not conflict with the mobo .... its an error on their part. Thanks god the BIOS A02 Works fine on my system and I don't need an update for the moment.
